Despite the difficult holiday, I've managed a few 3SF fills, with more to come, I hope.  I got the Narnia-TSG type ones up yesterday.  (I did some others that are an LOTR cross.  That will come later).  Chapter 2 is, maybe, a bit of surprise if you've not followed the blather going on in comments in AO3 on the last chapter posted of AW.  I'd hoped to actually do more writing this holiday HA HA HA.  But it will happen, with a resolution to wrap TSG up in 2019, 10 years after I started it.  YIKES.

And do come and join in the 3SF!  Here's are prompts that still need to be filled, 3SF Part 1 (but no new prompts) and here is 3SF Part 2 for new prompts and fills

The final chapter in Winning his Spurs, Thus Should A Knight Rule himself, went up.  I think most of the relevant notes are in the story already.  I tried to find the archived article from 31 December 1992 where I pulled up some of the discussion of who was on the New Year's Honour List and that was where I got the information about the verger, the launderer, and Anthony Hopkins as well as Thatcher-ites.  It was like the Daily Mail or the UK Independent.  I think.  The venomous rest was pure invention.

Wiki, the BBC,and other sources provided information on the 1992 political scene in the UK.  One reader has already suggested that the Sun would not have used so many big words.  We'll say it was a guest editorial?  I guess?

Thanks so much to Adaese and [personal profile] iopgod for the assistance on the honours, the Chagoss Islands, and the titles.  I owe everything to Starbrow and Oldfashionedgirl95/pencildragon11 for the hand holding and support.  I hope you'll read their awesome contributions to this collaborative fic.

Thanks so much for your patience and for those of you who did read, again, my thanks for doing so.

The Scrubb/Pole cycle is now complete with the wonderful Starbrow posting Enchantment Vast But Foolish, which follows on Pencildragon11/Oldfashionedgirl95's Bedraggled As I Am

Do check them out because without them pushing to give Eustace and Jill a happy ending, I would have never ever written Winning His Spurs which I just posted last night.

I'd not been able to replicate what Anastigmat and [personal profile] songsmith  accomplished in their work with the Peter/Mary pairing and so I'd given up on trying to write it.   When I did the other two TSG AU stories, I didn't want to create another character so shoved Mary in there but kept her mostly nameless and faceless.  Still, Starbrow and OFG hoped for a happy ending and functional, healthy relationships, so at their incredible generosity, I made the effort.

Some other links.  Information on Ghost Ranch and Georgia O'Keefe is here
There's some fun stuff on Coelophysis.   Based on the Ghost Ranch casts at the American Museum of Natural History, it had been assumed since the 40 that Coelophysis was cannibal.  There is still evidence to suport it but one day a grad student was standing at the AMNH subway stop admiring the bronze replica and realized, wait a minute, that's not another dinosaur in its stomach.  You can read it here.   I first heard about this Triassic dinosaur in this video which also gave me the idea for Jill's illustration in Hung Out To Dry.

The UK General Election information came from various sources that started with wiki.

The Lord of the Rings was divided into three parts due to a paper shortage; ROTK came out in the fall of 1955.

I've got the second chapter mostly done which deals, 50 years later, with the British Awards system and yes, trying to channel a Sun editorial.  Does Knight Commander, OBE in a New Year's Honour make sense?

The wonderful Starbrow has now posted Enchantment Vast But Foolish, part 3 of the Scrubb/Pole adventure and romance. It's wonderful, with Eustace being the alluring yet oblivious man of science and Jill who has just had ENOUGH. Also rum. and odes to hips. And we meet Jill's parents and we get a wonderful look at Jamaica. And reptiles. It's wonderful and Starbrow did an amazing job. To quote her quoting me:
In which there is a great deal of very fine rum, Jill has hips, and Eustace is an oblivious yet alluring man of science.

Pencildragon11/Oldfashionedgirl95 wrote Bedraggled As I Am, and if you've not had the chance to read it, do so and go tell her how awesome it is.

There's lots and lots of my head canon in both stories. Also, a joke has now started running about hips and Eustace Scrubb, alluring yet oblivious man of science, and the King's Poet. You can see the Twitter exchange that prompted [personal profile] metonomia to write poetry and then me to write comment fic here.

Next up, which I will post in a few days, is the first chapter of Winning His Spurs. I posted this in comments to the previous entry, but here is the preview again, Chapter 1, Return of the King
The truck rattled and bounced on the rough road, leaving a cloud of red New Mexico dust in its wake. Peter smoothly downshifted and slowly turned down an even narrower road marked by an ox skull perched atop the fence post. Georgia had painted the skull years ago and it had become the symbol of Ghost Ranch. He and Mary had come here from the Everglades after Eustace had packed up and shipped out; Asim had finally had enough of the No Colored signs all over the American South and returned to England. So it had become just the two of them, more alone than either he or Mary had been in years, and first testing tentatively then enthusiastically embracing their new relationship. Peter felt some twinges of occasional, residual guilt, but no regrets.

Chapter 2, Thus should a knight rule himself, will follow.

So, it all began with anastigmatfic writing Mary, Peter, Asim, Eustace, Alligator Snapping Turtles, and Alligators. It is wonderful, magnificent and awesome and it is right here.

And then the equally awesome [personal profile] lady_songsmith  wrote an absolutely hysterical (and M rated) follow on with Peter, Mary, herpetologist-supplied moonshine, and the leopard spotted undergarments Edmund had so thoughtfully packed for Peter. You can read and laugh here

I then wrote a follow on to that episode, playing with the idea that Eustace had a longstanding, unreciprocated crush on Mary written for reader Clairel in which Eustace shows up at Jill's door in Quebec.

But then OldFashionedGirl95 and Starbrow had some issues with that melancholy end and decided that in the TSG Everybody Lives Nobody Dies AU, something more needed to be told about Eustace and Jill.  And they started writing.

So I redid and posted Hung Out To Dry which tweaks the Eustace and Jill Quebec story a bit (and thanks to all who reviewed and I'll be sending off my thanks now) and that story sets up the next chapter, which

OLDFASHIONEDGIRL HAS JUST POSTED HERE!!!  BEDRAGGLED AS I AM!!!
(She's got a ton of meta in here and I just love the glimpses into some things -- also she is completely lying.  It's her work, not mine, and time and again she and Starbrow would ask me, "Well what about..." and I had no answer as, of course, everybody dies, so I have no head canon.  Except now we do.

So, go read and tell her how awesome she is!  And then Starbrow will write the NEXT chapter which is almost done and then I'll post something about errrr, Winning His Spurs, which is more about Peter, Mary, Georgia O'Keefe, Tolkien, and I try my hand at writing a fake editorial for the Sun.

I posted Wandbreaker last night.  It is perhaps, too sweet for your tastes.  But  ‘tis the season and given the last couple of days here in the states I wanted something to drive the dark away.

A huge thanks to Adaese [profile] adaese who suggested Edmund breaking his daughter’s fairy wand on Boxing Day and the invention of Peter’s constituency in Cowley – East Oxford.

So the now very large meme about writing a character prompt and delivering head canon now has a few thousands of words in comments. To borrow from [livejournal.com profile] snitchnipped I am not succinct.,
The Meme is:

1. Pick a pairing or a character
2. Ask me my particular headcanon regarding something about them
3. Post to your journal to share your own headcanon!

To which I added, (and if you want to include OCs from fic and such, bring it on!)

I have just now written over 1,000 words for Clairel, who asked about Jill, Eustace and the TSG AU.  I just posted it here in the Everybody Lives, Nobody Dies AU Community

AU/Crossover

For good or for ill, air mastery is today the supreme expression of
military power and fleets and armies, however vital and important, must
accept a subordinate rank.
Winston Churchill

If the Almighty were to rebuild the world and asked me for advice, I would have English
Channels round every country. And the atmosphere would be such that
anything which attempted to fly would be set on fire.
Winston Churchill

You can read it here.

The idea occurred to me while I was on the treadmill and thinking about the new Temeraire book due next year, Crucible of Gold.  For those of you who don't know the series, it's penned by Naomi Novik and is an alternate history set during the Napoleonic Wars and posits what the world would have looked like with dragons.  I adore the series.  It's really, really daunting to write Temeraire fan fic, but once it bit, I really couldn't let it go because Eustace and DRAGONS, in combat.  A part of the 'verse is that the Longwing breed of dragons will accept only female handlers, which causes no end of trouble in the times in which the books are set.  That of course led to the idea that Captain Lucy Pevensie aboard a Longwing Acid spitter was inevitable.  I'd originally thought that Peter ends up signing up and is in the crew of some big combat heavyweight as a gunner.  I've not read a lot of Temeraire fic, though I'm very fond of the cross over that [livejournal.com profile] beatrice_otter did last year for Yuletide, Lieutenant Bennet's Visit

That's all!

Given the enthusiam for something other than everyone dies in TLB, I thought we could use one place to play where everything everyone was creating could be collected in one spot.  So, I went ahead and just created a community. The Last Battle AU Community. [livejournal.com profile] last_battle_au
If you want to play, create, or muse on alternatives to death by fiery train crash in 1949, you can post, link and cross link over there!!!  I think I set it up so it is nice and wide and open.  LJ is again be screwing so I'll tinker with the profile in a bit.  You should be able to join and post without approval and do so anonymously if you want.
