What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first. I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.

• First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
  
• You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite a bit by mid-February.
• Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
• You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.




But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?
No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 28, 2021. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present. I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags in subject lines or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

"Oooh, fancy lass, tripping off to the Great Fairy instead of making your own girljuice like the rest of us?"

Malon leaned on the fence, batting her eyelashes down at the princess sitting in the grass, who was playing with the field flowers.

"The fountain really is right there, I shouldn't use elixirs that can go to others..."

"I'm teasing, sugar." Malon hefted herself halfway onto the fence, levering down to kiss her girlfriend's hair. "Speaking of, what do you use, Fairy Kid?"

Link opened their eyes and looked up from where their head was cradled in Zelda's lap. "Clothes."

Which was a bit of a surprised since Malon was expecting some kind of fairy magic like what Link used elsewhere, but made sense. For someone who wore much the same style all the time, they did like shopping for clothes.

"And you're very stylish." Zelda said, smiling, smoothing Link's hair out of their face.

"Without needing a Great Fairy's help."

"Oh honestly, you two..!"

Even as she blew a dandelion at their face, making Link splutter, Zelda was laughing. Having two people to smile and joke and laugh with was a treasure she could never lose.

Narnia, Susan, I persist and resist the temptation to ask you/if one thing had been different/would everything be different today?

A Twist of Fate

The Splendour Hyaline glides through the waters, its purple sails full. The captain has assured her twenty times that afternoon alone that they will not be overtaken yet still Susan stands in the stern, straining her eyes against the horizon for any sign of a Calormene chase.

When she decides she cannot see anything for now she sinks onto the bench and covers her face with shaking hands. She lets out a few tears, but not many. She cannot afford to. This is all her fault, and everyone was in peril because of her foolish infatuation for Rabadash. She cannot afford to indulge in her own fear when they have suffered so much too, and barely uttered a reproach.

Apart from him saying he would have loved her less if she had taken Rabadash, Edmund has really been, as Peter would say, a brick. He hasn't muttered a single word of reproach and his been actually quite gentle with her. Another reason she is glad that she didn't marry. Edmund still seems to need her. Her eyes travel to where he is playing chess with Peridan a little ways away. He catches her eye and invites her with a gesture, but she shakes her head. She bites her lip, watching the back of Peridan's head.

The question persists--why had he never asked her? Why did he dance with her at every ball and laugh with her and offer his arm and fetch her arrows and outright flirt in such a way that everyone thought he would? She certainly had, and she let herself fall for the handsome, clever young lord. But he didn't want her. Rabadash had. But Rabadash was too greedy to keep her and Peridan all too willing to let her go.

She forces herself to go below to silence all the 'if only's that bubble to the surface whenever she sees Peridan or he pays her some courtly courtesy.

That night she goes above deck knowing that she will find Peridan there. And he is, standing at the railing. She moves forward, clutching the bottle of wine, and he gives her that look that is half welcoming, half wary, and she is still half in love with him, after everything.

a/n: This is part of a story I'm currently posting to AO3, although the story itself is from Peridan's point of view and does a lot to explain his rejection (even though I'm not quite up to this part yet).

There are no meetings, no early morning training sessions, no urgent meetings, no tea times with friends, nothing but the childish things that the vague memories of who they were cared about and who they are now hardly care anything about.

So, they spend their days retracing old steps to try to gather and bottle the whisps of memories of who they were so that they can try to be those people again (or at least enough like them to walk through the world without being overly questioned).

The Rings are death; they are heretical yet she’s the one who is sneered at for refusing to even entertain the possibility of using them. Peter, oh Peter, you beautiful, arrogant magnificent ass, thinking that you couldn’t save Narnia from the Telmarines or the Green Witch, but you must act even when contrary to Aslan’s specific and very precise instructions to never, ever use the damned things.
When Peter pontificates that she's selfish for insisting that if they were supposed to do something other than live fully in this world, they wouldn't be here, Susan throws the train ticket in his face, only to find the accursed thing and the Rings in the pocket of the shredded jacket they peeled off his charred and broken body and there’s no solace in the fact that she was right when everyone else is dead.

"Shh, thinking," Jensen said, frowning as he stared at the screen, fingers not even moving right now.

Clay rolled his eyes... but maybe they'd get a decent job out of it, even if it meant dealing with Jensen's weirdness.

Wailing klaxons and a red alert are enough, in Chris's experience, to wake most hearing shipboard sentients from a sound sleep, and he has it on good authority that the accompanying visual alteration in the last round of fleet-wide refits - nothing like every light fixture in your quarters getting a sudden switch to on and a redshift besides - does quite well for most of those unaffected by the usual audio. Not that he doesn't know a few people here and there who've set their personal comms to emit a piercing shrill if the shipwide alarm goes off, or else cranked the volume on their terminals' speakers just in case; he overheard one lieutenant explaining her reasoning to a dubious friend by pointing out her known tendency to sleep through both violent thunderstorms and local civil defense warnings, and he was hard-pressed not to chuckle as he walked past.

The yank on a mental connection, however, the sudden, salt-acid-bilious greenwhite rush of transmitted fear/adrenaline/concern/oh, bugger, this isn't good, Indallah! Sir, I hope you're awake, we're gonna need you up here, I think--Captain Pike, to the bridge--Indallah, do you read? .. That's even more effective than the usual at getting Chris to scramble out of bed.

When Hera isn’t looking, he sometimes alters the destination, just a few degrees, or changes the course she laid in so they come out a different planet in the system rather than another. It’s never dangerous of course, just annoying, like when he knocks things over to watch Hera or Kanan put them back and loosening a bolt that Ezra will have to tighten, or rearranging Sabine’s paints when she's not looking. There’s no reason for it -- Chopper just does it because he can.

It had been a line in some stupid play that Ritchie and Donald had both auditioned for; they had laughed together in bed afterwards at some of the dialogue. “Kiss me to death, darling.”

As Ritchie noticed that mole on Donald’s back, as he watched Colin deteriorate, as he smiled along with Ash and Roscoe as they received their negative test results while not letting on that he had never collected his own, he realises the line was more prophetic than he knew.

He's quite sure they're not normal dreams, because Peter argues with him and tells him not to be foolish and gives him advice on ruling a country and counsels him to find a wife soon and have heirs, not to make the same mistake Peter did.

When Caspian tells him, "I don't want a wife, I want you," Peter just smiles sadly and replies, "Surely by now you know that what we want has very little to do with what actually happens.

It's only in the silence that Remus truly gets to know him, in the in-between moments, when Sirius looks up at him between sentences and the earnestness of his soul comes bursting through.

After the coronation, times were much happier and much better and much brighter, but that didn't mean that there was never any hardship—for the country, for Mrs. Beaver herself, and for the young Monarchs.

The Monarchs had quite taken to Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, and they were frequent visitors at Cair Paravel, both for simple visits and for harder times when one of the Kings or Queens was sick or when they needed other support through the hard times (she rather thought they missed the wisdom and comfort of a Mother, though she never mentioned it to them).

As the languid strains of a new song drifted across the ballroom, Rinoa turned toward a commotion nearby and saw Quistis surrounded by a gaggle of young male SeeDs clamoring for her attention and squabbling among themselves over who would dance with her, while Quistis stood with her arms crossed and jaw set, looking as if she might explode at any moment.

With a chuckle, Rinoa strode toward her and offered her hand, asking, in her sweetest voice, "Care to dance?"

Quistis' relieved expression betrayed a hint of smugness as she accepted Rinoa's hand and immediately took the lead, sweeping them away from the boys, to the center of the dance floor, where they swayed together to the tender melody, their skin prickling beneath the jealous glares of the young SeeDs and the curious eyes of many others, their hearts beating fast, out of time with the music but perfectly in sync with one another.
