What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first. I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.

• First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
  
• You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite a bit by mid-February.
• Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
• You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.




But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?
No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 28, 2021. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present. I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags in subject lines or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

It's one of many questions he doesn't give them a straight answer to.

[I would rather waste an entire tray of cinnamon buns than destroy a pilot like yourself,] says Ax, arcing his tail high. [However, I can't have you following me, either.]

Then he knocks Gonrod out with the blunt of the blade. The Andalite is an arrogant coward, but compared to Arbat or Samilin, positively heroic.

"No," says Tobias, his human voice still shaky. "To the pain."

"What?"

"You couldn't be satisfied with killing me last time, could you? You tried to torture me into betraying everything. We can--"

Cassie's break-in interrupts them, and Tobias is relieved that he never has to finish the threat.

No one ever gets the Inigo Montoya line. Tobias would have loved to, but he can't. Ax, for whatever reason, doesn't understand the humor of the scene. Marco is too pragmatic, keeping Edriss 562 alive in order to play her against Visser Three--and by the time Eva squashes her underfoot, she's not in the mood for quoting one-liners.

The cup of chocolate is bitter and spicy in his hands, and Teomitl doesn't drink. He can't--they're not safe, not really, not with Tizoc undying on his throne and him awaiting his chance to topple him. Even if it risks breaking their Empire, it will save them in the long run, he knows this...but he promised Acatl, he promised to give Tizoc time for his reign to stabilize, and he won't go back on his word. (He won't disappoint him, not again; he never, ever wants to see that look of heartbroken fury in Acatl's eyes.)

But when he smiles at Acatl...oh, Acatl smiles back,, even now, even after he's fucked up so comprehensively that he's amazed the man has forgiven him, and suddenly the world seems just that little bit brighter.

“No thanks, I’m going flying,” Ginny had said. Now, she thinks of the unflattering colours and imprecise sizes, and Molly’s sharp offence when one of her automatically-knitted jumpers was unworn, as she looks at their Keeper’s fingers flying over gorgeous green cables.

“It’s not hard,” Seraphina says, catching her gaze. “I could teach you sometime.”

“Yeah,” Ginny says, “That’d be nice.”

There's a man in absolute hysterics at the side of the room when Susan arrives for her brother's personal items but, seeing as this is a place where hysterics are absolutely to be expected, she pays him little mind; her thoughts are filled with her own grief that hangs like a cloud, obscuring her once-sharp senses so that it's only when she gets home and spills the box's contents out across the table that she starts to put certain things together.

For she sees that seven shimmering rings are loose in the bottom of this box, and she remembers that there ought to be eight, and she also remembers the man wailing about how his friend "was here and then gone, right in front of me, just like that!"

It's been a long time since Susan conducted a rescue mission.

It's a minor miracle no reporter has ever asked Kabu why he insists on using fire types, a question that might sound preposterous to anyone not keeping up with Pokemon fights in general and the Galar league in particular, but is actually warranted given that, for example, Raihan fields a gigalith and a sandaconda.

If he was ever asked, Kabu would answer: In the end, it comes down to discipline, after all his life, he has pushed and challenged himself, so taking the easy route by abandoning the fire type is something he never considered. The best way to grow, he has found, is through adversity as there are no types without weaknesses, no pokemon without flaws or every trainer would use the same team, instead Kabu takes some small pride in the skill needed to hone your strategy around the pokemon you chose and the fire of ambition burning inside him.

“We could catch some for you,” offered Jill, batting her eyes. The giant blinked slowly back at her.
“Eels?” he asked doubtfully.
Jill smiled rapturously and elbowed Eustace before he could make a face and ruin the effect. “So juicy!” she exclaimed and rubbed her stomach.
“My Aunt Murtletrod always said that a good eel could cure all ills,” reminisced Puddleglum.
“How optimistic,” said Jill, startled.
Puddleglum sighed. “She was never quite right in the head,” he muttered.
The giant scratched his head, showering them with gravel. “Eels?” he asked again, this time more eagerly.
“We’ll just go and fetch some for you,” said Eustace loudly. He was a terrible actor, but Jill supposed the Ettin wasn’t a terribly discerning audience.
“Be right back!” she chirped, and waved farewell as they scampered for the hills.

After the lying-in-state, after the grand funeral, after the even grander coronation, when the visiting nobles have left and the strange, otherworldly children have vanished, Narnia's brand-new king walks in the garden.

Rilian has discovered that it's rare to be truly alone in Narnia--but suddenly between one step and the next, the surrounding apple trees vanish, the raucous chatter of Birds goes silent, the rustle of Dryads and Hamadryads and Squirrels is gone--and right there in front of him there is a lion, a Lion who speaks, and what the Lion says is, "Child, what have you done with the son of Caspian?"

Narnia's brand-new king is both bold and cunning (without audacity he would not have won his throne) but he is not foolish, and so he does not lie to the Lion of Narnia, but sets his jaw and says, "You know the Deep Magic better than I, Sire; surely you must know that Narnia must be ruled by a Human, not a star-blooded lovechild,"

(but despite his boldness, he is still surprised when the Great Lion only sighs).

Narnia, Rilian, assuming a new identity

Being king was new to Rilian, he who had only distant memories of being a prince, and just as distant memories of his father. He was going in quite blind to the whole business, with most of his knowledge about ruling coming from the records he could find from his father and previous kings’ rule, as well as anecdotes from his Telmarine subjects. He thinks in the end he did alright – but he never does manage to capture the Talking Beasts’ loyalty like his father had managed to.

She had never been anyone, just an average girl growing up into an average life, living like ninety-five percent of her country.

Then she looked into the Heart of the TARDIS, and it all changed, casting her through time to leave the puzzle pieces for guidance, and in the end?

That suited her just fine, to be the one that unlocked the keys to survival and give the Doctor a chance to save them all.
