3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Might as well start with the books, you think, less likely to be a distraction if they’re packed up tight. Row after row is cleared, but it’s taking longer than expected; some of these you have not seen in years, others you completely forgot you had and each one is an old friend. There is a small pile growing next to the tower of boxes, these will stay and go to your brother 14 years your junior; after all, you think, he is just the right age.

After the stampede -- after the seemingly endless expanse of the desert, after Timon and Pumbaa and hakuna matata -- Simba had never dared let himself think about coming back to Pride Rock, triumphantly or otherwise. Run away and never come back had whispered in his head every time his mind even strayed close to the idea, and after all these years he's used to shying away from the thought. So coming back isn't like something out of an idle daydream or a story: it just is.

Takes All Kinds

[identity profile] saoirse7.livejournal.com 2013-03-23 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hello, Cousin; what can I help you with?" Edmund said as he smiled down at the animal waiting for an audience with the king.

"He spoke to me!" the Goat managed before falling to the ground and lying there, until a second later he got back up, ready to talk.

Edmund tried to cover his surprise and amusement at the animal's behaviour long enough to hear him out, but it was taking every shred of control he had not to burst into laughter when, every time the king would say something mildly startling, the Goat would keel over once more.

(This is absolute crack, I hope someone writes this a real fill...)

"Yes," Bruce said, sighing into his drink, "this was a great idea, Clint, I appreciate it."

"She did say she wanted to let off some steam," Clint said, unconcerned; he ducked down a little as a body came sailing over him, just enough that they didn't collide, and nodded to himself in satisfaction, sipping his own drink.

"Yes, but somehow I thought there were other ways to handle that than start a bar brawl for her," Bruce said, then snorted when Clint looked far too interested, "although apparently this method is more appealing -- you know, you could at least go help her --" but he gave up when Clint just gave him an incredulous look.

He considers, once, what it would mean to ask Priam for his daughter's hand (as a mere hypothetical exercise), outlines in his mind the endless negotiations of what Dardania might bring to the alliance and what Troy might grant in return, prepares his vows of eternal love for their princess. That would be the easy part, of course; far more difficult would be explaining his choice of bride to his father, declaring with an assurance he did not feel that her madness would not pass on to their children, praying as he presented his wife to his countrymen that one of her strange fits would not overtake her--far more difficult, and far more painful.

Later that night, he asks Cassandra for nothing more than her company at dinner.

Look what she's done now, the horror of it all! As if it were not bad enough that she should leave me sitting slumped and gaping open on the floor by her feet, displaying my treasures for all but herself to see, an appallingly bold invitation for her to forget me if some other does not steal me first, oh no, then she also had to go and pay absolutely no attention to either the placement of her freshly delivered mug upon the table or the movement of her own elbows. Pray that you learn from this great tragedy, please, because it is thus that I have failed in my vow to protect that poor, defenseless little smartphone with my life, and I will never be able to hide my shame, for it will now be proclaimed for all to know by the overpowering scent of cheap coffee, which shall linger in my lining forever more.

[personal profile] mardypants 2013-03-23 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
First out the orchard gate that morning was a very strange young woman in a soldier's doublet and little else, fleeing from the direction of the guests' quarters and shrieking curses most unseemly.

Hot on her heels was none other than Signior Benedick, rubbing a purple stain from his eyes with his nightcap and shouting after the girl with improvised love-oaths and rhymes even more unseemly.

From their vantage behind a crabapple tree, the Lady Beatrice and her newfound friend shared a congratulatory fistbump, careful not to bruise either flower that the other held, the purple or the white.

That? Is not a thing I had yet considered. (Now I'm suddenly wondering where Hero is during all this. Hm.)

Re: Shall we their fond pageant see?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
As breakfast drew towards its conclusion without the appearance of several key individuals who were not noted for routinely skipping meals (one of whom could be heard quite clearly, no matter how much effort one put into ignoring his caterwauling), Hero approached Beatrice, wringing her hands and saying, "Cousin, I know you do not regard my husband well enough to feel dismay at his disappearance this morn, quite the opposite in fact, but surely your own husband's public pursuit of this newly arrived jade must raise your ire no end, does it not?"

Much to young Hero's surprise, the good Lady Beatrice merely laughed and replied, "Nay, Cousin, it troubles me not at all, for your missing husband is the object of my husband's pursuit, and when they both return to their proper selves some hours hence, each shall have learned valuable lessons. If you care to follow me, I know the perfect location from whence to enjoy the entertainment they are certain to provide us for the rest of the day."

You're the anon that came up with the awesome prompt, right? Cause if so, half (or more) of the win belongs to you, and deservedly so.

I swear, if anybody told me when I woke up this morning I'd be writing this.... :>P

Re: Shall we their fond pageant see?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm the anon who left the prompt, but I'm pretty sure the win still belongs to you, because the fill is far more awesome than I could have come up with on my own. Besides, if credit needs to be shared with the source of inspiration, then most of it should go to Betony for leaving a prompt ( http://rthstewart.dreamwidth.org/87903.html?thread=1897567#cmt1897567 ) looking for a way to make Claudio less punch-worthy, which in turn made me think Claudio might get a little more understanding of what he had put Hero through if he had to walk a few miles in ladies' shoes himself.

They fall out of Time, a single moment of despairing fury stretched thin and taut across all eternity, for there is no longer any possibility of change, or regathering, or fruition: nothing but an endless, clawing void, the true vacuum never found in the natural world. The White Rider hears her brother scream, and scream, and scream, one breath caught forever in disharmony with her own, and she cannot grow accustomed to the sound, or tired of it, or even aware of how long they have been screaming.

John, you fool, I would have made you king, she thinks, and thinks, and thinks again, one final point of consciousness crystallized in pain and horror's amber as she falls; she has made him immortal after all, and amidst her breathless, endless scream she almost draws breath to laugh.
