3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

edited March 13, 2013 to fix box coding problem (thanks to those who helped!) and to add link to friending meme
edited March 15, 2013 to add information on archiving.
edited March 24, 2013 to close post to new prompts.

He would have thought he would hate snow and cold once it came around, like he always used to. But now snow reminded him of Christmas and the Yule festivities that lasted long into the night in Narnia, dancing with the fauns and Dryads on Dancing Lawn, sledding and snowball fights, and bright days when ruling a kingdom didn't seem so difficult. Yet more than that, snow reminded him of purity, being washed clean, having the ugliness taken away so all one could see was the unsullied blanket of white covering what was before dirty and unbeautiful.

Spring comes, and takes the Queen back home to her mother like an errant child. The shades yawn, and pull in on themselves, and wait for her to return, tiptoeing around a silent and melancholy Hades. And the god of death watches new roots break down through the earth and reaches up to hold his wife's tendrilled fingers.

Haytham has to admit, he feels a twinge of disappointment when he slips his blade into Mills's chest and his mouth fills with blood.

That mouth had been such a beautifully talented one when it had been filled with his cock.

Ah, well, at least this way what happens on the ship, stays on the ship.

once upon a myth

[personal profile] edenfalling 2013-03-26 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
He knows, of course, that it is all nonsense, that Gwen is merely another note in an age-old tragic song, only an ordinary woman from an ordinary city or farm, trapped in a narrow, loveless marriage with a brute of a man until she gathered her scraps of courage for the sake of a newborn babe and fled seeking a devil she didn't know: that her strangeness is easily explained by the terrible things any man can do to another, beating down a soul with words and deeds for year upon year upon year. There is no need for magic when human cruelty will serve.

But Owen was raised on legends of Arthur, both the pretty tales of chivalry and the older stories that the Saxons and the French left out -- the tales where Arthur was first and foremost king rather than husband or father, and ordered the death of any child who might be his bastard, fate-shrouded son -- and when Gwen speaks with an accent he cannot quite place, when she looks askance at his car and telly and toilet, when she murmurs names in her sleep he thinks he almost understands... well and so, a man can dream of timelost queens and fancy himself a knight, can he not, so long as the work gets done.

CJ didn't think of herself as a role model to be held up as an example of what a woman in politics could achieve. She thought of herself as a valued member of President Barlet's White House staff, sweating in the trenches and giving it her best effort for a man in whose ideals she believed. If her work made her an inspiration to young woman wanting a career in politics, that was just a byproduct of doing her job well.

Narnia, Lucy Pevensie, "run fast for your mother and fast for your father/run for your children and your sisters and brothers"
autumnia: The apple orchard in Cair Paravel (Pevensies (at the Cair))

[personal profile] autumnia 2013-03-19 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Further up and further in! Lucy lived and breathed the mantra as she continued to close the gap that separated Narnia from the other worlds, climbing up and down the ring of mountains, skipping lightly across the rocks in the rivers, swimming up waterfalls instead of sliding down them and running—always running through the grass and in between the trees that gracefully parted to allow the Queen and her brothers through.

When she finally reached the real England, she and the two Kings ran straight for their parents' outstretched arms with smiles and tears on their faces, free at last to reveal their true selves and the secrets they kept from the two that raised them to be who they were.

His face is too well-known on the HoloNet, even with his hair sheared off short and a month's growth of fuzzy golden beard. Every time he sees a group of clone troopers -- no, that's not right, stormtroopers -- pass by his fingers ache for the lightsaber he carries hidden beneath his stolen clothes, remembered pain sparking through the Force, until he thinks he could burn from the weight of the betrayal.

Going into it, Rick knew a life with the Carnahans would be rather less soothing than a retired ex-Legionnaire who's seen his fill of war might want; if it's not Jonathan pissing off the law, the criminal underworld, usually both at once, it's Evelyn stumbling across the one scroll in the entire country that sets off a centuries-old curse that brings on great calamity, the goddamn apocalypse, blah blah blah, and usually also means they have to put up Ardeth Bey for a few days until the fate of the world is no longer in danger.

It's just--when Evy tells him she's pregnant, Rick has a few months to imagine his kid as the only other sane influence in this family; admittedly, he grew up in a hellhole of an orphanage that he escaped as soon as humanly possible, but he has some faint impressions of normal children doing things like playing ball and skipping school and saying "Dada" a whole lot.

A year and a half later, though: "Ramesses," pronounces baby Alex with a look of great contentment when it comes time for his first word, and Rick abandons any hope for a normal life.

Next time, Jonathan promises himself, he's locking his baby sister and her husband in the brig and making a run for it.

"I'm sorry," Rick barks from one side of the airship, "you pick now, after we've just escaped with our lives--" (from mummies, Jonathan supplies) "--after you returned from the dead--" (fortunately not as a mummy) "--to tell me you kissed...him--(oh, another mummy; what a surprise!) "--back in the desert eleven years ago."

Evie just raises her chin and retorts, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

Ooh, fun! I haven't read Damar in awhile, so this might not be accurate, but it shall be fun (for me at least).

She had fallen in love with an Outsider man and she was running away. It still didn't feel real, not this, not the cold moonshine, not the adrenaline rushing through her body, not the sand in her face and the tap-tap of Windflight's hooves on the ground. None of that felt real, but when she dismounted in the lonely little outpost to the light of George's lantern, she knew she wasn't dreaming.
