3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

I Will Wait for You

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dead?" she repeats foolishly, unable to believe she is now a widow, that they haven't perhaps mixed up the Edwards, though hers and Richard's are little enough alike.

But Yes, she hears, and, killed by the brother, they say, the hunchbacked one, devil take him, and then, oh then Anne believes it.

She sinks to her knees in prayer, thinking of Richard's crooked shoulders and powerful arms, and shivers, and prays for the patience to wait.

(You left this just to tempt me, didn't you...)

A Crusade

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bare breasted?" Henry murmurs, closely inspecting the parts in question.

"Like the Amazons of old," Eleanor responds, threading her fingers into the red of his hair, "and Louis may not have appreciated it, but his troops damn well did."

Henry looks up at her with something halfway between lust and amazement in his face, and says, "If I go to war with France, will you ride along?" and she laughs and pushes his head further down, and marvels that this man could possibly be so perfect.

This is a bit out of my comfort zone but I'm gonna give it a shot...

I might be my father's daughter, she idly thinks as she calmly walks out of the insurance agency with her hand firmly clutching the bulging purse beside her, knowing it's a one-in-three chance that she and Moze are bound by blood, but I'm definitely my mother's daughter.

When she first ran away with Moze all those years ago, she thought her mother—may God rest her soul—would probably be horrified if she could see the type of woman her daughter would grow up to be: orphan, truant, and con artist.

But now, as she enters the waiting car with a shake of her head at Moze—that no, the agents had not caught on to their scheme just yet—she then remembers the old rumors about her mother ("the wildest girl in town") and thinks perhaps Mother would not disapprove of this life after all.

"Ugly Edna was going to rob a bank and so she brought along her what, Charles?" Gene Rayburn prompted.
"I said mask, for obvious reasons," Charles said, revealing his card and making that smug little sound he often made as he pursed his lips.
Before Gene could ask her to reveal her card, Brett Somers said in a bored tone, "Well, Gene, I said mask too, because not only is it something the poor girl would need to rob a bank, but she'd probably need it in order to get anyone to have sex with her too."

[personal profile] pleonasm 2013-03-23 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
The wedding was very, very small -- William had no family that he wanted to speak to, after all, and Sacharissa was the model of discretion. In fact, William doubted that she would have told their co-workers had he not encouraged her; otherwise they never would have gotten the day off (and as it was, he ended up writing a small blurb to put in the Society page).

Nothing much changed after that; she was still Miss Cripslock, even if she wore his ring, and she wouldn't have a whisper of impropriety in the workplace, of course -- an occasional smile, that was all he needed, and to see that small band on her hand.

ailavyn_siniyash: (Default)

[personal profile] ailavyn_siniyash 2013-03-20 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Here, I'll try, but don't expect it to be good. I spend most of the Chronicles of Prydain, up to the fourth book (which was my favorite) getting annoyed at Taran, and so didn't get to enjoy Eilonwy much, even though she's by far my favorite character. But I'll try anyways. Here goes:

The Princess Eilonwy, daughter of Angharad, daughter of Regat of the Royal House of Llyr, when she was being formal, at least, (which she certainly was not now) was lying on the grass at Caer Dallben, rolling her bauble absently between her fingers. Taran was off doing /something/ and everyone else was doing something else, and so she had been left to her own devices, alone with her thoughts for the first time in awhile. It was nice here, kind, unlike the bleakness of Achren's castle, her strictness, her harshness, and Eilonwy liked that, and was glad to be rid of the enchantress's legacy.

Meh. That was... I mean to write something more depressing, but oh well.

Sorry, couldn't keep this to three sentences. I LOVE THIS PROMPT. (P.S. I actually have no real Robin/Will feelings; I just picked Scarlet for this because I always imagine him the surliest.)

Sometimes Much still can't believe he's one of them.

"'Course you're one of us," John says, with a sort of grunt. He far prefers vague pronouncements to explaining things; Tuck prefers tangents, and Robin seems to prefer laughter over any form of speech, so it's left to Alan to explain.

"It's in the name," he says. "You're Much. All anyone ever has to be is much more than Robin. He can't help but cede to better men."

Robin laughs and laughs and laughs.

Much looks bewildered, and not a little hurt.

Will glares and stabs a slabs of venison, while Alan goes on talking in circles, John goes on grunting, Robin goes on laughing, and Tuck stifles his tangents with a large mouthful of mushrooms. "Much more innocent," Will finally elucidates, when he figures the torture's gone on long enough.

"But." Much looks around at all of them, bites his lip, but his gaze finally comes to rest on Robin.

Everything always comes to rest on Robin.

Robin stops laughing. "John's much more talented with a staff," he says, but he's still smiling.

Much looks at Alan.

"Charm," says Robin.

Much looks at Tuck.

"Girth," says Robin.

"Marian," Alan says.

"Beauty," says Robin.

"It stands to wonder then," says Tuck, "why Sir Guy is not among us."

"Oh, he is very beautiful too," Robin cedes, voice lazy.

Tuck rolls his eyes. "I meant that he is by far the superior swordsman."

"Naturally," says Robin, "but he has such a tendency to gloat. It sets my teeth on edge."

"And you never gloat at all," Will says, from his dark corner.

"My dear Will," says Robin, "I meant that I do it well. He does it so poorly, it makes my stomach turn. If only he could become a virtuoso braggart, I would willingly cede my place."

"And the sheriff?" asks Much, sounding eager now.

"Oh him." Robin waves a hand. "He's not better than me in anything."

"And Will?" asks Much.

Robin licks his lips. "Stamina."

Much looks surprised. "In battle?"

Robin laughs; if he were in the throes of death, the last breath to leave his lips would be a guffaw. "I'd tell you to ask him," says Robin, "but he's a worst boaster than Sir Guy." Upon Much's look of confusion, Robin hesitates, then tells him gently, "He doesn't do it at all."

Will could not help but think that one day, this one skill, by merit of which Robin claimed he was a member of their band, would fail him. One day, he would no longer have the stamina for Robin--the smiles, the sly eyes, the underhanded murmurs--and it would all be over. Until then, though, Will could outdo his leader in this one thing: endurance.

“Yes, Mama,” Ramses said, and obediently trotted off to rebury the One Ring, silently seething in his hand.

Gaila's lips tighten; she looks down, and Nyota knows she's said the wrong thing, but Gaila says, "Of course I know what it means; it means what direction I'm facing."

Gaila doesn't mean that disingenuously; she does know what it means, and right now she's facing Nyota.

"Tristan," she says suspiciously (right after they've gotten out of the carriage but right before it speeds off without them), "this is most certainly not the Market."

"No," he says, waving his arm to indicate the rather unimpressive scenery of dead trees and rocks around them, "but don't you recognize this spot - it's where we first met!" and she just knows his next words will be a variation on so we can make that trip the right way this time, won't it be romantic?

"Tristan," she says with a sigh, leaning against his shoulder and looking up with a secret smile to her sisters in the sky, "forgive me, but I'd rather just relive the end of that trip, if it's all the same," and it might have been, if he hadn't sent the carriage away; as it was, things turned out very differently from both their expectations (but that's another story altogether).

Few things surprised Tyrion Lannister, any more. Although his view of the world had always been from a lower vantage point than most, he tended to feel as if he'd seen it all at least twice. Still, as he surveyed his dead father, knowing that the man had died by his hand, he was surprised that he didn't regret killing him for even a second.
