3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

No More Ever I Spoke (Arwen/Aragorn)

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-12 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
She thinks of returning, once he's dead and gone and her life turns blank, leeched of color and joy. She thinks of sitting in the halls of her father's house until they grow bare and empty as her heart, dusty and disused, with only the echoes of love and memory to sustain her, until she is as one of the statues in the gardens, an object of curiosity, of a past long forgotten by all who remain.

In the end she rejects this, and travels forward rather than back; she is yet made of softer things than stone, and he awaits her still, beyond the endless shores of the world.

With his teeth chattering endlessly against the biting cold and rain, Eustace wrapped his thin, wet arms around his thoroughly drenched body.

"I thought you said you could tell where we are by looking at the stars!" he hissed, wondering why he hadn't listened to the weather reports on the wireless before agreeing to set out on this adventure with her.

"I can," Jill whispered, her voice equally furious as his as she stomped her feet to keep warm, "but I meant Narnian stars, not those of England!"

“I was hoping it would be bigger on the inside,” Amy says, still gripping Rory’s hand painfully tight and staring inside the blue box that is just a box with barely enough room for one person inside, standing in a corner off the stage.

“It’s just a prop; but in England I have a wardrobe that was once bigger on the inside,” Susan replies, on her way to her dressing room, but it seems the older couple are not really listening.

Rory moves to put his arm around Amy’s shoulders and both of them stand, lost in memories; Susan looks at them and wonders whether her own eyes ever hold that extraordinary combination of joy and regret.

He’s piano-player at a club she frequents, and her friends tease her about him; that strange, sad man who wears a hat indoors, whose music makes images in her head, of things lost, washed away by time.

After his shift ends, she asks for cigarette and he fumbles in the dark for a match -- he wears gloves indoors too, she wonders if he is always very cold -- and she looks up to thank him and catches the glint of starlight in his eyes.

It is familiar, closer to home than anything she's seen for so long that she is strangely disarmed, and she sucks in the smoke and says, once I had a kingdom to rule -- he smiles and nods.

Jon's duty took him so far away from her - from both of his little sisters- one glad of his absence and the other missing him sorely.

Arya stares without seeing at the mirror, and misses Jon, and misses Bran, and makes up her mind.

She picks up her Needle (in her chamber, Sansa lifts her needle to embellish a shroud) and leaves the door swinging silent in the empty hallway.

Susan was Peter's spymaster, and occasionally Peter's spy; it never seemed to occur to anyone that the lovely young woman to whom they were spilling their secrets (all unknowing) might be the elder queen of Narnia.

Susan can't be queen of England, but she means to get as close as she can to what she once had, and no one dreams that the lovely young woman to whom they're spilling their secrets (all unknowing) might be a spy for the king of England.

No one looks past the silk-gloved hand and the silken black hair to see the spine of steel, the knives in each boot, the legs that once kicked in an assassin's head.

If Sybil is the summer – bright and warm, open and inviting – and Edith autumn – flashes of brilliance, but mostly quite dreary – Mary thinks she herself must surely be the winter, cold and still and bleak, dead and frozen before her time. She sees the chill inside her reflected from all around, from Patrick who she never gave a thought to, from her father to whom she is almost, but not quite, perfect, from all those who look at her and see only the bite of frost, until she believes it is all she is, that she can never thaw.

She's wrong, in the end; Matthew, it turns out, is the spring.

autumnia: The apple orchard in Cair Paravel (Pevensies (at the Cair))

[personal profile] autumnia 2013-03-12 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
There were many things Peter wanted to do when he stepped into the hallowed halls of Cair Paravel—washing away the blood and grime of the Northern campaign; reading and understanding the many messages (Rabadash an Ass! Prince Cor found!) Lucy and Edmund had sent ahead of their departure from Anvard; dropping flat on his back and ruining the silken sheets of the bed that awaited him in his chambers—but his heart led him straight to the doors of his sister's apartments.

"Susan," he called out softly as the Guard on duty bowed and retreated to allow him entrance to the Queen's rooms, "I'm coming—"

He never finished his sentence for the doors suddenly swung open and his tall, dark-haired sister flung herself into his arms, crying tears of joy, sadness and relief.

When they first see one another in Biers, where the monsters go to drink, Susan Pevensie sees a deep blue glow in the eyes of the other and the shadow of a weapon--a sword? a scythe?--forming in her hands. And, as a bow and quiver flicker in and out of existence next to a barstool, Susan Sto Helit sees a crown shimmering about the first Susan's brow and a look in her eyes that most would call wise or gentle or even sad, but that Susan Sto Helit knows comes from responsibility shouldered all too early, losses that draw blood, even now, and choices that she never should have had to make.

The Susan who is not quite Death (at least not when her grandfather is on duty) brushes past the woman who is not precisely a queen--not now and certainly not on the Disc--and says in the Voice, "THERE'S NO JUSTICE"; she's gratified when the other Susan looks up at her in what seems to be recognition, solemnly says, "No, there's just us," and pulls out a chair for her.

The fall of Earth was relayed out past the Sol system through tweets, the only information bursts small enough to escape the communications blackout yet large enough to still tell a coherent story. Investigative journalist Emily Wong had 140 characters per message and a hastily-compiled hashtag, and she made the most of it - somebody had to write the epitaph of a city, of a planet, of a civilization, and so it may as well be her.

"The biggest exposé I've ever written," she thought as her blood-slicked hands curved around the steering wheel of the skyvan for the last time, slipped, struggled once more to get a grip, "I hope nobody skips right to the end of this one."

Daughterly duty kept her there, and it was right that she stayed, and it was right that she left when she did, to take up her new wifely, queenly duties. She does not resent it, not really, not bitterly.

Nevertheless, the question nags at her, especially when she sees how lightly her shining husband esteems his great privilege: why, when she lived so close, all her life, did she never venture to find and taste those strong, sweet waters for herself?

Technically, the smartest person in the room had left twenty minutes ago. There was simply no way that Holly was going to get in the middle of that argument again. There HAD to be better ways to spend an afternoon.

As Sherlock said the word, sand, with obvious glee in his voice, John continued to stare at him with that confused look which seemed to greet most of the obvious solutions with which he presented people.
"All you have to do, in order to solve this, is to ask yourself, 'Where can I play beach volleyball in London?'" Sherlock said with annoyance. "As even the most dull-witted Londoner can attest, there aren't *that* many locations!"

His muscles are shivering because of the position he is crouched in, exhaustion slowly making them stiff, but Sherlock ... has been insistent that he doesn't move, doesn't draw attention to himself.

He can hear Sherlock's voice, his tone cocky, but it is impossible to make out individual words over the distance.

Suddenly, Sherlock's body whips backwards, and John throws any caution into the wind, uncoiling in a split-second and running towards Sherlock before his mind even has time to register what has happened.

...
Exactly three sentences? sorry, this is my first fill ... :)
