3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

edited March 13, 2013 to fix box coding problem (thanks to those who helped!) and to add link to friending meme
edited March 15, 2013 to add information on archiving.
edited March 24, 2013 to close post to new prompts.

"Mama," said Ram, his head nestled in the lap of his mother's gown, his tiny fingers tracing the shimmering rivers of embroidery that graced her skirts, "why do you never tell me stories of the brave women from your homeland, and all the daring quests and adventures they had?"

"I am afraid I have told you the only one of that kind which I ever knew," replied the queen. "Twas that tale of a prideful young girl who left her home, braving great peril to her life and the lives of her friends, all that she might gain the freedom to have many more such tales to her name."

"Shut up, Gary," Lynet said; "I did, earlier, and Morgan promised me it was this way."

"Morgan," Gaheris said--"Why didn't you say something before, we've been going the wrong way the whole time!"

(love these books!)

If Gawain gets into trouble with Terence there at his back, it's bad enough; if he's on his own...

"I leave you alone for two days," Terence says exasperatedly, taking over the somewhat haphazard bandaging job Gawain is currently attempting on his ankle, muttering under his breath while Gawain remains still and tries to look as blameless as possible.

He's a good lad, Gawain thinks fondly to himself; Gawain did a good day's work when he stopped at that hermitage years ago.

There are rituals that must be followed after every game; some are with teammates but there are those that keep them rock steady even with the blood pounding in their ears as they struggle to come down from the high of playing and, more importantly, winning. This time is no exception and Jules pushes Jess into the corner of the deserted closet that is always off limits after a game. She doesn't care that there are sweaty clothes in the way, only that she can find skin to touch and mark with her teeth.

They call it a reunion but it's more like ten years of torturous wait in return for bad wine and cold finger food while trying to make small talk with people who were never friends in the first place, but Janis goes through it for one glance so that she can put away the dreams that have been haunting her since turning twenty-five, when she realized a few truths about things she'd been hiding from herself. Regina, never one to follow the rules, walks across the room instead of staying with the girls she once called friends. "I know this might be a mistake but I've been waiting ten years to be able to ask you to dance."

"Don't do it, Grant!" Christopher calls, when Conrad gets to his feet, glass in hand, "I can't take the humiliation!"

"Well," says Conrad, cheerfully ignoring him (Christopher groans and ducks his head into Millie's shoulder), "I just want to say one thing: this man right here--" he gestures to Christopher "--has been mad about Millie since he was fifteen years old, and now the whole world knows it."

"There," says Millie softly to Christopher, under the applause and clinking of glasses, "that wasn't so bad, was it?" Christopher lifts his head slightly, red in the face with embarrassment and replies: "I suppose not."

Janet had only had the vaguest idea of feminism when she came to Chrestomanci's world, and now that she'd heard of the glass ceiling she was determined to break it.

"No," she said again, attempting to school her face into another smile, "I'm here for the medical doctor degree, not the nurse one; yes, I'm certain; no, I won't change my mind."

Anyone sensible would run from that smile - certainly, anyone who'd ever met Gwendolen - but Janet had a long way to go yet, and she started by sailing into the classroom, head held high.

Cleverness was exhausting sometimes. When in the wee hours of the morning she abandoned the trail of weighty finery across her dressing room floor, dismissed her maid, and sank into her bed, she forgot who she was - the brilliant, the sparkling, the witty; the actress, the spy, the keeper of a dangerous secret, the wife of a fop, the lover of a hero - they all blended together while she struggled to hold them separate in a dizzy mind.

He tapped on the door, slipped between her sheets, took her in his arms, and she remembered.

Edith stood there in her wedding gown, as if rooted to the spot, watching the man she loved walk out of the church and more importantly, out of her life. She could see the looks of pity on the faces of the wedding guests, but when her eyes, in their desperate search for comfort, locked onto Mary's, she saw something unexpected. In that moment, she thought she could see compassion in her older sister's eyes, but then it was gone.

She never seemed to run, or shout, or play in puddles. Everyone in the house wondered how the child of two such rfirebrands could be more interested in tea parties and frilly dresses and balls than adventures and mischief (although a fair few people sighed in relief).

But when the son of a visiting earl deliberately tracked mud all through the house and was rude to the servants about it, she upended a bottle of ink on his prissy blond head without batting an eye.

They were not and never would be quite human, and they knew that Sarah Jane wasn't their biological mother. Still, it was harder to lose her than either of them had ever thought - not that they tried to think about it, but there were more close calls every year, and even though Luke asked, finally, if she would slow down, they knew Sarah wouldn't stop trying to save the world until she had to (that conversation had been awful, and only a week later she'd been gone, out in a blaze of glory, like they'd all suspected would happen, and neither of them were at all surprised).

They carried on her legacy the best they could - no weapons, and they were always Smiths, even if the Doctor looked sad when he saw them nowadays - it was what she would have wanted, and how she had raised them; they were more human than not thanks to her, and it was a badge they both wore proudly.
