Well, [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake wrote I wish I could go with you (The "Leia Shot First" Remix) the fabulous fabulous story of how Luke and Leia the smuggler rescue Prince Han Solo of Corellia (he wears a cape). It's lovely.

Also, Nasimwrites wrote the terrific Acting Accordingly (2459 words) -- it's a lovely, wonderful Not A Problem of Susan story for [personal profile] alexseanchai
And WingedFlight wrote a terrific remix, White Lilies (3330 words) featuring an awesome ace Queen of Narnia for Nasimwrites who had written the amazing secret baby Lucia story To Narnian Ground.
The tags include: magic dreams, secret baby becomes magic baby, Asexual Character, Remix

And... I remixed Wingedflight's Casmund AU, Tidings From Beaversdam. Winged had tagged Caspian's purple shirt as a character -- at my suggestion. So I remixed the story, from the point of view of the shirt. I wrote Caspian/Edmund -- from the point of view Caspian's purple shirt. I've obviously lost my mind -- I  mean we're all on severely diminished capacity these days -- stressed and depressed and barely functioning cognitively.  At least that's true of me.  I hope you're doing better.  But I wrote a story with an article of clothing as the main character.  I discovered the Purple Shirt of Sex if an AO3 tag -- I didn't use it as it appears to be specifically related to shirt Cumberbatch wears in Sherlock.

The King Under The Mountain (9528 words) by rthstewart
Chapters: 1/1

Characters: Peggy Carter, Henry "Indiana" Jones, James Montgomery Falsworth, Jim Morita, Gabe Jones, Jacques Dernier, Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan
Additional Tags: World War II, Nazis, Crossover, MCU-Indiana Jones level references to torture
Summary:

The War in Europe is finally ending. Doctor Indiana Jones and Agent Peggy Carter have to make sure it stays that way. They'll need ravens, a flute and a sack of grain (or maybe a bottle of 1935 Chateau Latour Pauillac).

The reveals for the Crossoveringn 2018 challenge went up last night.  There are some wonderful stories in the collection, including several by Narnia/NFE/Twitter friends, including WingedFlight, FreudianCascade, Nasim, and [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake .  I wrote the above Agent Carter/Indiana Jones xover that is not Peggy/Indy.  My spawn was a huge help and in the scene with the blunt and sharp, spawn was the one who gave me those lines in a text.  (I added the punching above weight class).  I had no idea that Indiana Jones backstory was so immense.  I was going to do Indy and Pegg and a Tesseract-weaponized Spear of Destiny/ Lance of Longinus only to discover that in mid-1945, Nazis in Ireland had already been chasing it with Indy and Dr. Jones Sr.  Who knew?

No lie, I love this story with the passion of burning suns.  (and if you don't, please don't tell me and let me continue on in blissful ignorance).  It was a string of one glorious coincidence after another and I was able to weave in so many things I've done before (some of the source material for Rat and Sword Got To War, Maenad of the Maquis and my Narnia/Avengers xover all found its way into this work.)

ALSO, as posted previously, I received amazing fan art in the xover, Peggy Carter and Raiders of the Lost Tesseract  now revealed to be justanotherray as the creator.  It's not quite coincidental fan art for my own story, but it's all in the same glorious vein and I"m really happy with what I got and with what I gave and with how it all involved that shining moment in history where darkness was defeated.

And in a week's worth of truly awful, it was nice to write someone unapologetically punching Nazis in the face.

WOW it's been a busy couple of weeks and I've got another story due next week.  BUT

First, Narnia Fanfic Exchange and NFE Madness reveals are up and live.  So many good stories this year.  I owe reviews!!

I got a wonderful story from Rustedeaglewings, The Night Before Battle, with a Caspian pep talk by the Four.

I also received a group gift of the hilarious crazy Added to the chat by the incomparable WingedFlight.

I wrote two stories,
Rat Catchers, featuring Polly Plummer as a member of the Women's Land Army on what is believed to be the eve of the Nazi invasion of Britain, September 1940.  Freudiancascade was a huge help as a sensitivity reader for the character of George.  I discovered at the last moment that I'd miffed the dates of certain events in the story.  VERY annoying but it was too late to change the action, so yeah, don't get your history of the most inept spies of WW2 from that story.

The second story is one I'd really wanted to tell about Thomas the polyamorous bisexual goose and I really wanted to write something for [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake  who has gifted me with some wonderful things.  Father Goose is here and it explores a number of things long hinted at, including Briony and Lambert (and hints of Briony's own story), the death of Mr. Noll the spy, Susan's romance with Rafe Linch, and then it makes a jump into solid Stone Gryphon AW territory.

Then, last night, I posted a look back at The Queen Susan in Tashbaan.  Love and Rock Music (LARM) had seen this NSFW picture of an naked American airman in the midst of air-sea rescue in the Pacific theater during WW2.  She wanted me to put Wing Commander Reginald Tebbitt in.  There were some problems, obviously, and she had some ideas involving a hot air balloon accident and a convent.  [personal profile] autumnia  came to the rescue with the idea of involving HIs Lordship, Lord Halifax the Penguin.  And so, Booze Cruise is the result, an insert into The Queen Susan in Tashbaan.  Also, I, like Susan, had a strong desire to let all Congressional leadership drown.  She's a better person than I am.

As I was working on this story, I realized how important that complex Narnnia conceit was in TQSiT.  Using the fake Peridan and Queen Susan allowed me to insert real Washington DC people but filtered through several layers --  the Narnia code, Susan's own letters, and then Peter and Edmund's interpretations of them.  Here, it's straight up DC story telling and I just couldn't insert the real people that were the inspiration for their Narnia/TQSiT counterparts.  So, I just don't put their names in and use titles.  It's awkward, and is far more fiction than historical.

SO, I have posted over 36,000 words in the last month.

Well, that's been embarrassing. The stories have been up for 2 weeks, but, errr, things have been intense in RL. BUT, let me share with you that the Narnia Fic Exchange in live on AO3 with a lovely variety of stories, most of which I've not been able to read yet. You can find the whole collection here and there is something of every taste and flavor.

I received a wonderful, creative, fun story by Airawyn, so go read it and them how wonderful they are!!

Summary:

All children play games, and all children grow up, and so if you should meet someone as an adult who played the same games you did as a child, perhaps it isn't so strange. Cultural influences and whatnot and so forth and doesn't every child dream of lions?

And I managed with the mad assistance of [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake beta and editing skills to get a story in on time. I do feel it's a bit of re-tread for me. Nothing really new but I'm thrilled that I managed to pull it together and write something and get it posted, especially given my insane RL schedule recently and a whole lot of technical writing. Baby steps. But it's up and done and thank you for being such wonderful, kind, supportive readers and friends. I wrote it for FiKate who asked for something about Digory and why he became a teacher and they noted Digory's special relationship with Lucy. So, that's what I did.

Additional Tags: Crossovers & Fandom Fusions, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Alternate Universe - Modern with Magic, The Bastard - Freeform, Case Fic, Character of Faith, Canon Trans Character
Summary:At first, Curtis Atherton's death appeared a simple suicide. Of course, nothing is simple when the Bastard is involved.  Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Joan Watson, and Ms. Hudson, Acolyte of the Bastard, are on the case.

I loved writing this story and really appreciated [personal profile] heliopausa for her help and her and Metonomia's beta assistance. It was a case fic, and long, which made it hard but the story, originally written for me at Yuletide, begged for expansion.

The second story was for the Lizzie Bennett Diaries and my thanks to [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake  for the beta assistance. My recipient really liked it and I really enjoyed trying to write Darcy during the Netherfield arc. He's a fundamentally decent person but also an arrogant jerk so it was a challenge to balance the two.

clouds in my coffee (the diamond in the rough is looking so sparkly remix) (2296 words) by rthstewart
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Lizzie Bennet Diaries
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Lizzie Bennet/William Darcy
Characters: Lizzie Bennet, William Darcy, Bing Lee, Caroline Lee, Jane Bennet
Additional Tags: Netherfield Arc
Summary:The thing about living with someone for an entire month who you are otherwise attempting to exorcise from your existence is that you learn all manner of things about her you could have gone your whole life without learning.

Elizabeth, having rather expected to affront him, was amazed at his gallantry; but there was a mixture of sweetness and archness in her manner which made it difficult for her to affront anybody; and Darcy had never been so bewitched by any woman as he was by her. He really believed, that were it not for the inferiority of her connections, he should be in some danger.

I suppose it's fitting.  This year, I finally, finally uploaded all of Stuff to AO3 under rthstewart and on fanfiction.net under the old G2 handle.  I went back and wrote Mara in an xover with River Song in Separated at Birth in 2011 and observed at the time that some 16 years after writing Stuff, I found I was interested in different things, like whether Mara had any friends.  I'd said what I had to say about Luke and Mara in Stuff and that was all there was to say.  However, Stuff certainly assumed lots of backstory and that post Last Command Mara had a very rich life independent of Luke, that she possessed emotional intelligence, that she was loyal, that she could be fun.  What did her life look like without Luke in it?

There were some really wonderful Mara prompts in yuletide this year.  The one I'm really sorry I didn't get to was one by [personal profile] beatrice_otter  that had me plotting Mara and Karrde on their first caper together.  I'll get to that because damn, that would be fun.  But that left some other stories that I thought I could tell, missing moments between Mara and Karrde that admittedly fill in some of my own head canon, especially abut Mara's ties to the lightsaber Luke gives her (the big tube of lipstick) and the Jade's Fire and the importance of home, belonging, and freedom.    [personal profile] ancarett  and Princess_lirin had great prompts and it was really fun to take them on as treats.

So, I wrote Home Game and Emerald Light Refracted and Dispersed which are both closely related and in fact, if you're inclined to read,  I'd recommend you read the first two parts of Emerald Light (Mara and Karrde just post TLC and just post Jedi Academy), then read Home Game (which is post Jade Solitaire and before the Corellian series) and then conclude with the final bit of Emerald Light, Mara and Karrde post-Vision.  Home Game is where I really set out my head canon on just why the Fire was so important to Mara and why it was Such A Big Deal when she destroyed her ship in Vision.

so read if you like!  Or not!

One final observation is how really quaint the stories read to me.  They harken back to a different era in a way, heavy on dialogue and SW tech, written as spackle and gap filler in the Bantam Spectra era.  They aren't as plotty as the WEG Adventure Journal stories because that's never been my strength, but the feel, to me, is similar.  They are very old fashioned.  To that end, there are a things in both stories slipped in that harken back to that era--, references to Karrde's hard drinking Corellian stringer and the splicing of the ship transponder, Kyp Durron, Shada, the Jade's Fire beacon call, (heck the emphasis upon the ship at all), the fact that Zahn always thought post-TLC that Mara had a calling as a teacher,  and a few other things.  Certainly, anyone who has read my SW work over the years (and my and Yav's collaborations) knew it was me and I really had some moments of LULZ when Dunc  posted about the yuletide prompts on CJ

So, that's all.  Read if you like.  Happy Yuletide!
