WOW it's been a busy couple of weeks and I've got another story due next week.  BUT

First, Narnia Fanfic Exchange and NFE Madness reveals are up and live.  So many good stories this year.  I owe reviews!!

I got a wonderful story from Rustedeaglewings, The Night Before Battle, with a Caspian pep talk by the Four.

I also received a group gift of the hilarious crazy Added to the chat by the incomparable WingedFlight.

I wrote two stories,
Rat Catchers, featuring Polly Plummer as a member of the Women's Land Army on what is believed to be the eve of the Nazi invasion of Britain, September 1940.  Freudiancascade was a huge help as a sensitivity reader for the character of George.  I discovered at the last moment that I'd miffed the dates of certain events in the story.  VERY annoying but it was too late to change the action, so yeah, don't get your history of the most inept spies of WW2 from that story.

The second story is one I'd really wanted to tell about Thomas the polyamorous bisexual goose and I really wanted to write something for [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake  who has gifted me with some wonderful things.  Father Goose is here and it explores a number of things long hinted at, including Briony and Lambert (and hints of Briony's own story), the death of Mr. Noll the spy, Susan's romance with Rafe Linch, and then it makes a jump into solid Stone Gryphon AW territory.

Then, last night, I posted a look back at The Queen Susan in Tashbaan.  Love and Rock Music (LARM) had seen this NSFW picture of an naked American airman in the midst of air-sea rescue in the Pacific theater during WW2.  She wanted me to put Wing Commander Reginald Tebbitt in.  There were some problems, obviously, and she had some ideas involving a hot air balloon accident and a convent.  [personal profile] autumnia  came to the rescue with the idea of involving HIs Lordship, Lord Halifax the Penguin.  And so, Booze Cruise is the result, an insert into The Queen Susan in Tashbaan.  Also, I, like Susan, had a strong desire to let all Congressional leadership drown.  She's a better person than I am.

As I was working on this story, I realized how important that complex Narnnia conceit was in TQSiT.  Using the fake Peridan and Queen Susan allowed me to insert real Washington DC people but filtered through several layers --  the Narnia code, Susan's own letters, and then Peter and Edmund's interpretations of them.  Here, it's straight up DC story telling and I just couldn't insert the real people that were the inspiration for their Narnia/TQSiT counterparts.  So, I just don't put their names in and use titles.  It's awkward, and is far more fiction than historical.

SO, I have posted over 36,000 words in the last month.

WAHOO!  Huge thanks to snacky for once again running a wonderful exchange.  There are 20 stories in the main collection!!
AND there are four stories in the Madness collection.  You can add to the Madness collection until author reveals next week!!  Come play with us!  You get lovely, enthusiastic feedback and it's just terrific.  The prompts are here.

I received a terrific story, The Night Before the Battle.  It's the Four with Caspian the night before the Telmarine battle and its a little gritty and very wonderfully insightful.  I really enjoyed it and am so happy with my mystery writer who so generously filled my prompt.

The other is an absolutely off the wall modern hangout chat and the convention/trope probably has some catchy title but it's basically queer, multi-media extravaganza and is hilarious and I love it.  Added to the chat

Having participated for a few years now (though barely the last 2), there are always certain theme that seem to come to the fore.  This year, there's lots of lovely queer content and women characters are featured prominently.

I've got 2 stories in there.  I'll speak to them after the reveals.  I've done more fic writing in September than in the last 3 years combined.  I realize how I used to do it -- I didn't sleep and I didn't have nearly as much RL work.  I'm super behind but given the horrors of the last 10 days or so, frankly, writing fic has been better for me and I'm not going to worry about it.  I have the xover challenge next.  I'll see if I can be a little more moderate.  Seriously, I was updating 2K of additional story this morning 30 minutes before the archive opened.

Also, [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake  wrote the amazing Stuff Remix, Things.  I"m so grateful to her.  She's done some wonderful things for me in the past and this was just one more incredible, generous gift.

I just posted on Twitter that in bad times (and they have been so awful this week), hope is a subversive act.  I may have found that again?  Maybe?  I am writing again and in creating, I find hope for myself and maybe others can find it too. I will try to sustain this.

First, thanks so much!  Despite the character-centric match up, the fact is, I’m pretty agnostic as to characters for the NFE. Whatever we've been matched on, don't worry because I like just about anything and what I don't like has to do with tone and characterization, not particular characters.   This time around, I have gotten a bit more specific with Friends of Narnia, so, basically any and/or all Pevensies, Eustace, Jill, Digory and/or Polly.  I'd like at least one of them in it somewhere but feel free to add human and non-human OCs, non-binary characters and POC, and romantic pairings.

New in my request:  Something I really love about Narnia (and what I assume the Friends bring back to England) is the sense of wild diversity and inclusiveness.  The victory romp in PC is my idea of the very best of Narnia.  I'd love to see that abundance, acceptance, vibrancy, passion, color, and exuberance in a story.  If you go in this direction, feel free to introduce OCs, POC, and characters that are non-binary, neuro-atypical, and not human, etc.  if you like, THROW A BIG PARTY.

I've pretty consistently requested adults but I also like adults in children's bodies -- in other words, they can be  young in appearance but old in terms of years lived, wisdom and experience.  From my previous prompts, you can glean the following, and I'm surprised at how little they've changed

What I also love:
  • UST; witty banter and snark; Politics, finance or military strategy; World War 2; Worldbuilding; Gap-filling; Culture clash (within Narnia or Narnia vs. Spare Oom); healthy, romantic relationship between exuberantly consenting adults (canon pairing or OC); someone being extraordinarily clever and getting out of a jam; any Narnian (Pevensie or otherwise) observed from a third person point of view; anything sly, wry, and silly; rapid fire dialogue; a delightful sense of the absurd
  • A happy ending, delightful characterization, and to laugh at least once
  • Pagan and/or mythological influences;
  • Adults and old souls in young bodies;
  • A Narnia with creaky wheels, the faint smell of manure, the stronger odor of wet livestock and dogs, grass stains, bare feet, pollen, open windows, and lots of animal hair and feathers
  • I prefer humor over angst and sex over violence.
  • Cross-overs!
  •  AU and canon divergence is great too.  A Golden Age > 15 years, so, therefore I'd love an AU look with adult Pevensies, OC consorts, and the next gen.  Similarly, I’d love a Spare Oom AU with a happily ever after and no train crash
  • If it's Narnia based, I'd be very happy if you just ignore TLB completely.  I prefer Golden Age and the period around PC and VoDT is great too, so long as there is at least one Friend of Narnia in it.

 What I definitely don't want in my fic: it's a short list but pretty strongly held:  excessive angst, gore or violence; any dub-con whatsoever; Susan written as "Fallen Away From Narnia because of Lipstick and Nylons"; Lucy sidelined or being protected by her overbearing big brothers and worry-wart sister.

Last, here is a moose, swimming in a very deep, very cold, alpine lake.  How did she get there?  Where is she going?  Why? https://imgur.com/a/VTyaqxv

 Also, Thomas the polyamorous, bisexual blind goose, https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-43054363 who lived to the ripe old age of 40.
Tell me about Thomas!!

I've got a big body of Narnia work and some people like to play in it.  If that's something that you are interested in, you don't need my permission!
