So, I don't know about you, but I am super stressed about the American November 2024 election. Work this week has been absolutely impossible with my obsessive doomscrolling. I had been optimistic and now it is just horror and dread.

In the middle of all this, I had inquiry from a reader about where to find a story, since I referred to it but it wasn't on AO3. Oh. Turns out I had 3 stories on ff dot net that I hadn't cross-posted. I wondered what else I hadn't posted... and found 17,000 words of stuff, most of it from 2009-2013 and much of it in the form of Live Journal comment fic. (BTW 2013 was when a piece of federal legislation passed that changed my life and continues to dominate my work today). I was also very irritated by a reader who said my Susan Pevensie was a self insert as I posted earlier because, LOL friend, I know how to do a self insert. So I decided to add the Great Mother's Day Debate too.

As a sidenote, in that debate, I refer to the little "Twilight reading tart" who wants to "play" with my spawn and it's mentioned that I'm making macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets for the kids playing in our fish pond. This WAS written 15 years ago after all and the Twilight reading tart has grown to a lovely woman. I was at her wedding shower this weekend and, as a gift, I gave her a collection of her favorite recipes I've made for her over the years, including, the mac and cheese.

Time flies.

So, I just participated in the AU Exchange and have a story that I wrote that I"m just THRILLED with that is NOT Narnia.  I got a charming Harry Potter alternate sorting hat story here, unafraid of toil.  I really screwed up my sign up and ended up in the pinch hit pile, so I feel badly but it seems my author enjoyed this and I'm happy to have participated.  I spotted an AU Vorkosigan, a Shuri doesn't get snapped, a Rilian/Bucky Barnes and a Susan Pevensie/Elizabeth Swan, a couple of Leverage stories,  including a Star Wars fusion (wow I hope that one is good) and a couple of GBBO that look very fun, including a Pride and Prejudice GBBO?  Also Rey on Jakku with dragons.

The whole library is here and I'm looking forward to digging into it in another week or so because...

The Narnia Fic Exchange will be going live next week and uhhhh I've been busy.  LOTS of stuff with my fingerprints on it.  So go forth and read over this (for an American) long weekend and celebrate the labor of others and your own.

I hope you all are OK.  My world has narrowed a lot lately.  I'm not engaging on DW much -- more on Twitter and Discord.  This tends to happen when I'm up to my eyeballs in fic.  I had my first (negative) COVID test.  and I suspect work will be picking up again A LOT by mid-September.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying the quietest time I"ve had in 7 months.

Seriously my coding is so bad. I tried to get a countdown clock on my 3SF post and failed. Tried to get a beautiful banner someone made embedded. Fail. I'd forgotten that my 3SF posts were going to another email folder so I didn't even see them for the last 10 days. Fail.

Yeah, RL has been kicking me in the ass and the fail is strong with me right now.  Not feeling like I've got the wits for the 3SF but deep breath I'll just do it.    Work has been insane.

So with all the everything going on, I skived on doing work work last weekend and FINALLY finished something I'm been trying to do for [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake for 3 weeks. My spawn had said from when we first watched The Force Awakens that the sequel trilogy had a Mara Jade sized hole. So, I filled it.  So out there it's almost crack.

So first, I urge you will all haste to go read the wonderful things that [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake  wrote for me. She is amazing and so are the stories.

What I got
A little madness story,
Fit to be tied (723 words) by Syrena_of_the_lake
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Susan Pevensie
Additional Tags: Crack Crossover, Anansi - Freeform, Chronicles of Narnia - Kangarooverse
Summary: Susan does not like surprises. Tebbitt does not like spiders. Anansi does not care.

And the glorious Rule of Threes Raid which does not require familiarity with the xover Rat Patrol (RAT- how perfect is that?)
The Rule of Threes Raid (18796 words) by Syrena_of_the_lake
Chapters: 3/3
Characters: Susan Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, Peter Pevensie, Sam Troy, Jack Moffitt, Mark Hitchcock, Tully Pettigrew, Hans Dietrich
Additional Tags: World War II
Summary:The Rat Patrol's mission is "to attack, harass and wreak havoc on Field Marshal Rommel's vaunted Afrika Korps." Susan's mission is a bit more complicated, as is her relationship with the desert. A story of daring and deception and of loyalties built on shifting sands.

What I wrote,
My big story, written for Selden, is Flee From Memory. There's a lot that happens here, and it's right after the siege of Anvard, with Tumnus arriving to help with the complex diplomatic issues. As I was trying to decide what to do for NFE in response to Selden's marvelous GA prompts, she specifically said that she didn't mind romance and was curious how Tumnus reacted to Lucy the little girl as Queen. Seldon was also interested in worldbuilding and stories about memory. I had also a few new readers ask for more about Aidan Gunarr, Lucy's consort who appears in AW and is reference in other stories.  So, as the saying goes, kitchen sink time, with, among other things, the introduction of Aidan.  Also, for those who are familiar with my work, the ending is, I think, a surprise. I've not decided yet how I feel about the ending, but for the purposes of the story, and my recipient, it worked. Tumnus is the pov character and this continues his decidedly bitter views of Aslan. Tumnus is a very unreliable narrator and is a master of self-justification. As I was working on the story and the role of memory and deception, I thought a lot about my time in Eastern Europe in the early 90s after the Wall came down and the damage done to the psyches of the people I knew. Lying was necessary to survival and that was a difficult habit to break.

I did two madness stories.
The Blue Door Cottage (1909 words) for the superlative WingedFlight and [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake
Relationships: Jill Pole/Eustace Scrubb
Characters: Jill Pole, Eustace Scrubb, Alberta Scrubb, Harold Scrubb
Additional Tags: Magic, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Silver Chair - AU, SCAU
Series: Part 4 of Everybody Lives Nobody Dies Narnia AU
Summary: Jill and Eustace take a holiday. It does not go as planned.
The story is closely related to Winged's NFE from last year Concerning the Daily Maintenance of a Large Country House, obliquely references her other works, and I suspect the houses have had the same owner.

The other is related to an earlier work I did, about Mabel and Letty's apprenticeship with Mrs. Lefay. I wrote this for [personal profile] edenfalling  because she's written so many things for me and I really wanted to give her a small gift as she asked about Polly and Digory post-MN and what Letty and the other family members thought of this odd friendship between the two.

At An In-Between Place (2032 words)
Chapters: 1/1
Characters: Polly Plummer, Letty Ketterley
Summary:  Polly has an iron poker, a pocketknife, and a police whistle. She's ready for anything.[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake

The concluding chapter to Dressing Down or Alpaca Bag is up! You can find it here and here

Thanks so much if you R&R'd. I really appreciate it. Something that Ruanchunxian01 and Clio noted in the story was how different each Monarch's relationship is with his or her Guard. Jalur manages Edmund, Dalia and Fooh after become Peter's emotional booster and sounding board. Lucy and Briony are friends and operate as a team, with a lot of good cop/bad cop and Briony very much enables Lucy's actions and acts as Lucy's advocate. Lambert is very much Susan's partner, trusted advisor, and friend. It's a very intimate relationship -- all of them are, but as Hoberry observes in a Christmas story I wrote a long time ago, that Lambert's service predates the Guard's oath to the monarch, and his service became the model for what the guard came to be. I fiddled with those parts quite a bit to try to convey that.

Yes, Guard Llamas are for real and I personally think they are terrifying,

First, back when I concluded H&M, I had intended to post 2 epilogues. I decided against it because I was satisfied with Acceptance of the Terms. But I did have several thousand words of the AU version of it, Rejection of the Terms, Everybody Lives, Nobody Leaves. I was really worried that it was nothing but a vanity project and spewing things you've already read. Some of it you've seen before because I pulled from this draft to write Lost in Translation. Lots of it is new. [personal profile] heliopausa , ruanchuxian0 and [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake all read it and thought it was OK and not too repetitive, so I polished it up and posted 11,800 words of it. So, I hope you enjoy it. It's on AO3 and FF.net

Second, [personal profile] autumnia pointed me in the direction of this amazing article about a girl who started leaving food for crows and now they bring her gifts.

Third, in addition to the roving llamas here and here (last one set to Born To Run) (and yes, I'm working on a fic about them -- watch this space), and the mysterious colored dress, there was this picture that went viral today of a weasel leaping on to the back of a green woodpecker.

Source and article here.

All of these, btw, have launched fic on the 3 sentence ficathon.  It's winding up this week on Sunday but there's plenty of time to play!!

Last, this all comes to you despite zomg so sick.  I had an emergency root canal on Friday followed by the worst respiratory crud thing I've had in years.  I've missed the last two days of work and we're getting more snow so who knows when I'll make it back in.  Anyway, that is all.  Thank you so much.  If you like the story, I hope you'll let me know.

Also, wasn't Star Wars Rebels FUN?  And Agent Carter?  And isn't Elementary good this season.  And gosh, I bought the hype and went back for the last episode of Sleepy Hollow, and was SO GLAD I DID.  Yes, anything?
