So, someone on Tumblr asked me, do you still do prompts? And I realized that prompts are almost the only think I do as I bumble and stumble along through the nightmare that is my COVID to-do list (this weekend, finish a manual, write a comment on New York weed, prepare for 2-day FDA meeting next week AND have to do slides for a presentation the same time as the meeting) blergh.

Into the Jungle came about because LoveandRockMusic noted an article about the Rainforest Cafe closing and wouldn't it be hilarious if the Pevensie next gen showed up and the animals really talked and the monkeys tortured Edmund.

So, on November 17, I opened a google doc and started writing, egged on by Larm and[personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake . Also, ElementalRaven on AO3 had reviewed almost EVERY single story I'd done and I promised a gift in return. They wanted some other things but liked the Next Gen too. Rainforest Cafe is one of those places that I should have spent a lot more time in than I did. My spawn was born in 1999 and the cafes started opening in about 1997. We LOVE animals of course. But there is a predominance of big primates and spawn was never a fan of the great apes. So we didn't go that often. The thunderstorms also made them pretty nervous. But I certainly knew it -- we were the ideal generation. So, this is a love story to the Rainforest Cafe, all 11,000 words of it.

Series: Part 7 of Everybody Lives Nobody Dies Narnia AU
Summary:In April 1998, an outsider is welcomed into the House of Pevensie, currently in residence at the Rainforest Cafe in Piccadilly. The results are predictable.

Something I note at the beginning is that, as it is set in April 1998, Harry Potter is beginning and of course would be a thing for a family with a history of magic, portals, and talking animals.  Philosopher's Stone had been release in June 1997, Chamber of Secret was coming it in July 1998, and Philosopher's Stone had been picked up by Scholastic and would start showing up in the US in September 1998.  So, there's a fair bit of Harry Potter in this story and I gently poke fun at Where would the Pevensies by sorted?  And, given the ugliness in the last year or two, some people might not be interested in a story that features HP at all.  if that's the case, you'll want to skip it.  But I deliberately make one young person trans just to show the better view and two young men in love are the pov characters.  So, there.

I also ended up creating a family tree to keep all the next gens in my head.   I was going to say, "to keep them straight" but so many of them aren't.  I know, it's silly but here we are because as Scott says to Theo, there are more Pevensies in this Everybody Lives Nobody Dies story than there are hoodlums at a football match.

By the way, I didn't get it Brit picked, so if you spot anything, let me know.  Thank you!

Assignments went out for the Narnia Fic Exchange. Earlier in the week on Twitter we were having fun with were-Caspian and the Hag's missing body in the PC illustration by Pauline Baynes where he gets bitten. The image manip is courtesy of [personal profile] metonomia I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of this for the NFE this year, as well as ladies in love.

My own sign up was pretty much the same as last year and I included a link to it in my sign up.  I'm nothing if not predictable.  Ignore Last Battle.  Just about anything else is OK though I'm not a fan of Jadis or the Telmarine era.  My assignment is going to be.. interesting.  In a good way!  Something new!  VERY NEW.

I got a nice query from a long time reader who was starting a re-read and wondering about reading order, which reminded me that I had a story on FF.net that never made it to AO3, Lost in Translation. LiT was all prompted by reader feedback and questions and most, but not all of it, ended up in other works, especially Rejection of the Terms (there's a cute part in LiT where Peter is doting on a pregnant Morgan and I thought of updating it, setting it later, aligning it with the other stories, and including Seth Stanleh but eh, I think we've all moved on). Anyway, the part that had nearly disappeared into the Internet ether is the Knighting of the Otters. So I pulled it from LiT on ff.net and posted it last night.

I'm working hard on the final update to Star Husband which has gone in a very unexpected direction.  WOOT.  Maybe next week?

AND, in other news, because I know you are waiting with baited breath -- Komo's G/I tract appears to be on the mend.  It's blazingly hot so I"m not getting the dogs out for walks unless very early in the morning or in the evening after a thunderstorm but, as near as I can tell (he's very secretive about where he does his big business) things are normal or nearly so.  We'll be trying a super hydrolyzed, allergen-free commercial diet and see if that solves the issues -- he's exhibited a bundle of symptoms sfor a long time -- including LOTS of water drinking -- and these all seem to have abated.  HOPEFULLY we can get him on to something more nutritionally adequate than boiled rice and chicken.

First, back when I concluded H&M, I had intended to post 2 epilogues. I decided against it because I was satisfied with Acceptance of the Terms. But I did have several thousand words of the AU version of it, Rejection of the Terms, Everybody Lives, Nobody Leaves. I was really worried that it was nothing but a vanity project and spewing things you've already read. Some of it you've seen before because I pulled from this draft to write Lost in Translation. Lots of it is new. [personal profile] heliopausa , ruanchuxian0 and [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake all read it and thought it was OK and not too repetitive, so I polished it up and posted 11,800 words of it. So, I hope you enjoy it. It's on AO3 and FF.net

Second, [personal profile] autumnia pointed me in the direction of this amazing article about a girl who started leaving food for crows and now they bring her gifts.

Third, in addition to the roving llamas here and here (last one set to Born To Run) (and yes, I'm working on a fic about them -- watch this space), and the mysterious colored dress, there was this picture that went viral today of a weasel leaping on to the back of a green woodpecker.

Source and article here.

All of these, btw, have launched fic on the 3 sentence ficathon.  It's winding up this week on Sunday but there's plenty of time to play!!

Last, this all comes to you despite zomg so sick.  I had an emergency root canal on Friday followed by the worst respiratory crud thing I've had in years.  I've missed the last two days of work and we're getting more snow so who knows when I'll make it back in.  Anyway, that is all.  Thank you so much.  If you like the story, I hope you'll let me know.

Also, wasn't Star Wars Rebels FUN?  And Agent Carter?  And isn't Elementary good this season.  And gosh, I bought the hype and went back for the last episode of Sleepy Hollow, and was SO GLAD I DID.  Yes, anything?

I updated Lost in Translation, chapter 3, to fill the prompts that were requesting more Otter.  This is the return of Bitel and Gnash, the two otters from Herd Mentality.
