So, actually, there have been several films, I think, about Mary Anning, a person obviously near and dear to me (and my fictional construct in TSG, Mary Anning Russell).  Somewhere on my phone I have selfies of me and Anning's finds at the Natural HIstory Museum in London and I think, at the time, there was a bust or some plaque?

So, at least 4 people have pointed something unbelievable, critically important.
THERE'S A NEW MARY ANNING FILM COMING, and it sounds AMAZING.  Here's the blurb that went around on Friday and Saturday, this one taken from Variety:

Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are starring in the independent historical drama “Ammonite,” a story inspired by the life of fossil hunter Mary Anning.

The story is set in 1840s England, when Anning and a young woman sent to convalesce by the sea develop an intense relationship, altering both of their lives forever. Anning is credited with making key scientific discoveries in the Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel.

Francis Lee is set to direct. Lee’s critically acclaimed freshman feature, gay Yorkshire romance “God’s Own Country,” premiered at Sundance in 2017 as the only British film in competition and won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Directing, as well as the prize for best film at the British Independent Film Awards.

“Ammonite” is a See-Saw Films production by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, whose credits include “Widows,” “Lion” and “The King’s Speech, alongside Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly (“Lady Macbeth”). See-Saw developed the drama with the British Film Institute and BBC Films. Principal photography is set for March.

Mary Anning, fossils, and queer.  WOW.  So excited.

and in my fic head, Mary Anning Russell is up in Aslan's Country and boy is she pissed.

She's gone on and done it, just for you Peter and Mary shippers (all 3 5 7? of you).  The awesome [livejournal.com profile] lady_songsmith has written an absolutely hysterical follow on to the TSG AU-verse with the swamp, the herpetologist-supplied moonshine, and the leopard spotted undergarments Edmund had so thoughtfully packed for Peter.  You can read and laugh here in which Peter and Mary do something never spoken of again except occasionally as "it" and do tell Songsmith how wonderful it is.  You probably don't want to be drinking when you read it.  Management is not responsible for damage to computers.  What are you waiting for?  Go!

Mary, Peter, Asim, Eustace, Alligator Snapping Turtles, and Alligators.  [livejournal.com profile] anastigmatfic is magnificent and awesome and really you have to go read this right now.

Also moonshine, the Florida swamp, and a missing camera bag.  Though I am wondering what a pair of leopard-spotted Y-fronts are and I'm too scared to google it.

“Macrochelys temminckii is one of the largest freshwater turtles in the world, Eustace,” scolded Mary, “and you’d do well to show it somerespect.”

Mary had been ecstatic at the sight of the thing. Of course she had: what the locals called an ‘alligator snapping turtle’ was enormous, thickly spined, and resembled nothing so much as the illegitimate offspring of a rhinoceros and a pangolin – one with a bad, bad hangover and the head of a dinosaur.

We’re all fine here. For the first time since 1995, we did not lose power during a major weather event. Thank you for the good wishes.

Because I could not resist and I now ship Peter and a camel.

First off, wow and thanks so much. I'm just floored by the response so far and it's scary how much happier I feel when there is a story providing a framework for fandom interaction. I really and truly appreciate it.

Fashion in 1942! And I'll post chapters 9 and 10 as soon as ff.net gets its act together. I am very aggravated this morning.

Fabulous shoes and summer dresses from the 1942 Sears Catalog

The shoes!

The January 1942 McCall's

Susan's Little Black Dress

Evening gowns:

And... really, the British 1942 Vogue magazine. A woman wearing a rationed silk dress... with dinosaurs. It's Mary Anning Russell, except with dark hair, in a dress, and with a handbag

Correction -- those aren't dinosaurs. Those are large, prehistoric mammals. They are quadrupeds and that's definitely a mammalian head. I'd guess an indricothere or giant ground sloth. The smaller, four legged one may be an early equine. Errm... yeah
