Pictures for Chapters 9 and 10

Fashion in 1942! And I'll post chapters 9 and 10 as soon as ff.net gets its act together. I am very aggravated this morning.

Fabulous shoes and summer dresses from the 1942 Sears Catalog

The shoes!

The January 1942 McCall's

Susan's Little Black Dress

Evening gowns:

And... really, the British 1942 Vogue magazine. A woman wearing a rationed silk dress... with dinosaurs. It's Mary Anning Russell, except with dark hair, in a dress, and with a handbag

Correction -- those aren't dinosaurs. Those are large, prehistoric mammals. They are quadrupeds and that's definitely a mammalian head. I'd guess an indricothere or giant ground sloth. The smaller, four legged one may be an early equine. Errm... yeah

Oh updates are coming! I was just about to log off when I saw this post and had to do a double-take. This is perfect. I'll go and run my errands and then come back to hopefully digest more about Queen Susan and Lord Peridan. At any rate, it's a great excuse to slack off my DIY-Christmas projects and vacation packing for now.

The shoes are lovely though I could never wear them; I'm more of a flats girl than heels.

As for the pictures:

Susan's LBD is very chic and classy. Not sure if the gloves match though.

The evening wear is interesting. I'm rather fond of the pink one for Here and the floral one is more suited for Narnian tastes as it reminds me of Nature. :-)

I have no words for the dinosaur one. That really is perfect for Mary, though she doesn't seem the type to be wearing dresses. :-) With her work, I picture her a bit more as a tomboy.

I have been in 1940s mode lately, listening to Vera Lynn's old war songs. I think I should play some when I get back to reading your stories.

I thought the brown gloves with the black dress was strange too. And yeah, I just loved the fact that the "Mary" picture was a British woman, in 1942, at the British Museum of Natural History -- although since they had moved a lot of the collections, maybe the picture was taken in storage or even at the Oxford Museum, which is just every so amusing. But Mary wouldn't bother using her clothing rations for a dress, she wouldn't be wearing a dress or carrying a handbag and this woman is brunette. Still, pretty darn funny.

Your journal is like the annotated version of your fic. AND I LOVE IT.

(Also I need more icon space. Jeez. I need about twenty SJA and Narnia icons, just off the top of my head, and I'm sure I need plenty more if I actually thought about it.)

Update soon? How thrilling!
And those shoes are so cute! Normally I'm not a shoes person, but I do love those!
Also, that dress is just the sort of thing I would picture Susan wearing.

I hope it will let people review eventually. Very, very frustrating.

Wow, those shoes are gorgeous. I agree the brown gloves are a bit odd. My first thought was "why would anyone want fur gloves?" (they're around the same colour as my tabby cat - eeeuw!)

I love your dinosaur/early mammal interpretation - not too sure about the dress, though. Rationing and all, but I still think the dinosaurs need to eat it (probably one for the 'Not my style, and that's OK' file).

Cheers,
Min

Hahahaha I completely missed the MAR picture the first time I saw this post! How wonderful! It may not really be HER, but it's still just perfect.
