caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

There's a nice view from the moral high ground but they've invented planes these days, amazing things, bombing raids, and sometimes you can tunnel in and have the whole thing collapse from the inside, which is to say, stop being insufferable and start carrying a gun. There's no moral high ground when you're six feet under. Do you want to live to see 500?

The advantage - the only real advantage - that Thor had discovered so far to this entire mess was that he could use Loki's powers to shapeshift into himself, which enabled life on board the refugee ship to continue (mostly) uninterrupted.

A much bigger problem was keeping track of Loki in Thor's own body, especially once Loki discovered he could punch his way out of Thor's quarters or fry any electronic lock with small bolts of lightning. Simply asking him to stay inside actually did, surprisingly, work ... for about two hours, which was presumably as long as it took him to get bored. (Or more like 1 hour and 45 minutes longer than it typically took him to get bored; Thor chalked up the rest to fraternal affection, and tried to keep that in mind when the urge to tie Loki to a long cable and dangle him behind the ship for awhile became nearly too tempting to bear.)

"I do not understand this, brother. You could take my appearance anytime you pleased. Why this situation holds such novelty for you, I cannot understand." Having broken up what Loki called a "rave" in the main lounge, he was attempting to drag Loki back to their currently-shared quarters, and having no luck because he kept forgetting that he could no longer drag Loki anywhere.

"Yes," Loki said, "but I couldn't do this," picking up Thor and setting him on the table. "Shall we play 'get help' a few more times?"

"I hate you."

That dangling tie was classic Catra: just enough effort to pass muster while still flaunting regulations. Adora's fingers itched to tie the stupid thing, but it wasn't her place any more. She was on Glimmer's arm, Catra was on Force Captain Scorpia's, and she was pretty sure they were up to something a whole lot worse than just looking distractingly sexy together.

Susan turned her most innocent face to him, keeping her amusement well masked. "It's quite cramped in here, isn't it? No forest, and you've not even got a small mountain."

“I don’t think it’s called women’s clothing here,” Ezra said helpfully, “it’s whaddayacallit, ambidextrous.”

Hera kept her face stern with an effort; the BrNai had five genders and none of them looked much like Zeb, but as always, they’d make do with a little improvisation, minimal resources, and the cover of darkness... and maybe something to simulate an extra layer of blubber — Zeb was far too lean to realistically pass for a BrNai of any gender.

Jessica stopped halfway through Danny's office door, her preemptive refusal of his latest enthusiasm forgotten in favor of pure bafflement: "Rand, what the fuck?"

"I may have spun my chair too hard while on the phone and gotten a little tied up," Danny said sheepishly from the tangle of telephone cord, telephone cable, and angrily beeping telephone wound around his tipped-over chair; "If you get me upright I think I can undo it myself, but I don't want to snap anything important."

"Just get a cellphone; only losers still use landlines," Jessica said, but she moved forward through the scatter of pens and post-its to lift the chair and its owner, and even bothered to be gentle and not break the cords.

Dustin, like everyone else in their thirties and forties, was swept away by the recent tsunami of eighties nostalgia. It seemed like the perfect time to be alive until he looked around his condo and saw his gaming consoles, laptop, instant pot, and of course, his beloved smartphone. Then suddenly, it seemed like the days of 8-bit graphics and rotary phones were very simplistic and better left as memories.

B'Elanna followed, mostly out of morbid curiosity--it wouldn't have been the first time he'd nearly gotten himself killed over some grievous social faux pas, but the people here had seemed fairly non-confrontational. But someone was shooting at them, so clearly- "What is going on?" she asked, out of breath, when Tom finally stopped running.

"I don't know!" And he looked so damn confused, she couldn't help but believe him. "I thought I was paying a lady a compliment, until she slapped me and her husband showed up with a phaser rifle!"

B'Elanna groaned. "What could you possibly have said that- hang on, give me your translator."

Paris handed it over--she fiddled with the settings, playing back what the translator believed the last statement to be, and translating it back into English. When she saw the words popping up on the screen, she barely managed to refrain from cackling. She showed the screen to Tom--it was almost worth the restraint to see the color drain from his face.

"I did not ask her that," he choked out, and B'Elanna couldn't help it--she doubled over with laughter.

Remus looks at him tiredly, then up at Sirius who is still wearing that delighted grin, and drags a pillow over his head, groaning a no into it.

"But then I could really be Moon Moon!" Sirius all but crows, and Remus swears the next person to introduce Sirius to Muggle culture - or god forbid, memes - is going to die.

The Penumbra Podcast, Juno Steel and/or Peter Nureyev; ancient Earth traditions

There is precisely one synagogue in Oldtown, with towering stained glass windows that the community claims to have been brought from Earth when the colony was first founded; Juno loves those windows, has always loved them, and stops to look at the clean colours every time he walks by. He hasn't been inside the building many times -- his mother was never very interested in joining the community except on High Holidays and that had ended pretty quickly when she started losing it, and he'd only been able to bear going to say kaddish for Benten once. But it's a bit of a comfort to know that if he ever decides to make it back to his roots in a way that takes a little bit more doing than lighting candles on Hanukkah, the doors will always be open, and inside he will find warm hands and clever minds and the spirit of welcome there to welcome him back as if he hasn't been gone more than half his life, and only halfway belonged in the first place.
