caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

"Yes, but people do prefer a world where they can fold concepts into neatly organized mental cabinets, rather like folding freshly laundered linens," Luthe said without raising his head from Aerin's lap, "and 'The king rules by right of inheritance,' is tidier than 'The king rules because the queen was unofficially disinherited and then vanished to fight a sorcerer,' to say nothing of 'The king and queen have rejoined the royal bloodlines,' being tidier than 'The king and queen have made the vaguely ominous wizard of the mountains into their mutual lover and potentially diluted the bloodline.'"

Aerin snorted inelegantly; "If being ominous were a race, you wouldn't even be at the starting line, and in any case I don't see why I should worry about fitting neatly into people's preconceptions now," she said, and held out her hand to draw Tor back down to her side.

The thing is, it doesn't ever really go away. Jonathan will be twenty, twenty-five, thirty years old and some part of him will always flinch when someone raises their hand in just the wrong way, will always reflexively duck when a door slams hard in his vicinity.

It doesn't ever really go away, but when he loops an arm around Will's shoulders and ruffles his hair while all around them the Hawkins High Class of '89 tosses their mortarboards toward the scorching blue sky, Lonnie Byers is barely even a distant stain on the far edges of his mind.

Running off to hunt the Black Boar of the Withering Hills or dive for pearls in the Lone Islands isn't something Corin does just for fun; or not only for fun, anyway.

Because he's not stupid: he hears the whispers about the Calormene when the barons and lords think he's not listening; he watches the way their faces darken when Aravis enters the room with her straight back and her coiled hair; he has dodged out of more than one quiet conversation in a hallway, or at a hunt, or in the garden--all of them starting with a casual comment on his father's failing health, or Cor's unfamiliarity with Northern ways.

If he's not there; if the curs think he's a wild and reckless youth, too undisciplined and hedonistic to even be a useful tool; if he takes one too many stupid risk running away from his responsibilities -- well, at least in that he can serve both his family, and his honor.

Jecht's strident laugh makes all the birds from the top of the trees fly away in terror. "I'm pretty sure you are breaking a bunch of rules here!" He says, not a bit intimidated with Auron's fiery gaze, still too close to Braska for it to be professional, but with enough distance to try to pretend Jecht didn't catch them kissing.

"I didn't think you cared about rules, good friend," Braska says, a calm smile in his face as if it wasn't nothing big to worry about. It's always the same with him, Auron thinks. As if death and war were nothing, just a mere inconvenience. But what about love? He doesn't ask.

"Nah, I don't." Jecht still has the smile on his face, but now it seems weirdly wise. Like some who now knows an important secret. Something worth keeping. "But who's a heretic now, Auron?"

There are many things Steve regrets in his life — not fast enough, not strong enough, not there for the people who needed him most — but this was one thing he didn’t think he’d end up regretting because it had been the one thing since coming out of the ice that had made him the happiest, made him feel the most moored in a world he sometimes had a hard time fitting into.

And then he looked at Brock — no, Rumlow, now — looked in his eyes and saw how differently they’d been seeing their relationship; he’d been seeing forever, been seeing his happiness without noticing where it came from, and Rumlow had apparently only been seeing a mark, an opportunity to pull the wool over Steve’s eyes in the most intimate of ways.

It hurt to fight when the betrayal was so fresh and all his mind could do was play the good memories when he tried to figure out how Hydra had dug its claws in so thoroughly when he thought he’d burned them out decades ago — and maybe that’s what hurts the most, that everything he’d known and believed was a lie and all he had was one more regret to add on top of the others.

Sakumo smothered a laugh at the dark grumblings barely audible from beneath the heavy winter kakebuton. Apparently not well enough, as the mutterings faded into an angry hiss - though it was rather lacking in ferocity - the slender figure curling up tighter and Orochimaru's angular cheek settling on his chest, cool fingers splaying over his belly. Snuggling for warmth, though he would, no doubt, never admit to doing such a thing; Sakumo wondered, if Orochimaru was still with him in the spring . . . would he curl up in the sun to bask, like one of his own summons?

It's a joke, when Shiro asks; his grey eyes are full of mirth and his hand squeezes Keith's shoulder, as if it hasn't been years since Keith has been in the same room.

Keith smiles back, in a house that Shiro shares with his husband, thinks of all the times he tried to ask Shiro if he remembered how much Keith loves him, and says the only thing he can in order to be truthful: "Not nearly as many as I should."

They say opposites attract and for them it was true; the saint and the sinner, the hero and the criminal, the earnest Barry and the sarcastic Snart. They were also opposites within themselves, Snart warm hearted without his cold gun, Barry beautifully slow when he was making love to Snart instead of chasing him. It was not a match made in heaven, nor would it have happened via any dating app, but there was no denying that they were drawn together despite, if not because, of their differences.
