caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

You could, you suppose, clear your own walk of the heavy pungent stuff - perhaps even win the goodwill of your neighbors if you got truly ambitious about it - but it would be rude to leave your guest, even if her conversation has gone a bit abstract.

You prod at the fire in the belly of your stove and open a fresh bottle, her golden eyes following you all the while until you settle back down beside her; a shovel in your hand might be good honest work, but surely another hour in her charming company will profit you more.

“This is your fault,” Nate gasped in to his mouth, and that certainly wasn’t the first time that Jake had heard those exact words from him, but it was different this time, maybe even good, because there was no anger or disgust or disappointment like every other time they’d been said.

Instead, there was only heat and want, heady and all consuming enough that Jake felt like his knees might buckle at any moment and send him tumbling to the ground. That was the reason, if anyone were to ask — which they certainly wouldn’t, even if they somehow knew what was happening in this little used corridor, because they all knew better than to bring up anything so personal with either of them — that he let Nate press him into the wall, holding Jake’s body up with his own, pressed together from the lips down like that was how they were supposed to fit.

Ramses slunk against the elaborately-carved wall, quietly hoping he wouldn't damage any of the millennia-old artistry even as he pressed deeper into the shadows to conceal himself, bloody hand stinging with the drag over stone.

A throb from deep within the temple made him stiffen, unsteady on his feet, as a prowling, huge, yet not-quite-there shape appeared and swiped at the men who had been chasing him, sending them tumbling backwards and yelping pleas to god as they fled.

A delicate feline sniff of distaste and then great blue-green eyes turned towards him and Ramses stared, hesitantly bowing his head.

You have always been My kitten, grown now or not; none shall harm you in My temple. The great figure- The goddess . . . Bastet gently touched her nose to Ramses' stinging hand - the pain disappeared - gave his shoulder a light nudge, rubbed her cheek possessively against his jaw.

Then she prowled back into the shadows, into the stones, and was gone in an instant.

Kali watches the thundersnow drift, not quite sure what to do with herself in a world where her strength is not the most impressive force to be reckoned with.

This is... uh... not exactly what you asked for, but the first thing that jumped into my mind oddly enough. No fandom.


When he threw a handful of memories into the pot, he figured that he would win either way, though it was his very first game. He had no memories but sorrow, solitude, despair; no laughter had ever touched his life; he would lose that grief, or win some of the treasures on display--a slice of a summer's day, a love lament from a star, a deep secret no one knew.

On the way out, feeling oddly empty, he admired the glowing crystals and the scenes depicted within--a laughing man, a wedding, two children, a man at a poker table curled up in despair--odd, that the man in all those portraits would have his face; he had not played a single game.

He sighed in relief as the Sonic revealed nothing new; it was simply an ordinary tree.

"Remind me to scan everything next time, Ponds," he said, shaking his head at the mess that lay at his feet two hours later: a tree denuded of its needles, baubles cracked or smashed into silvery shards, and a string of Christmas lights with its bulbs broken but finally immobile after he expelled an alien similar to the Wire from the festive electric cables.

He was weak against Tsurumi's blandishments and stayed on when he should have left. It took nearly dying -- once, twice, three times, for him to find a place that could be home, with people who could be his family.

He would do anything to protect them -- save them like he hadn't been able to save Fumi.
