caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Bayley tries to be the happy, smiling ray of sunshine everyone expects - she really does, and of course she's thrilled to take selfies with Trish and Lita, to see Carm, to hug Bex and Char to pieces and wish them luck.

It's just that it's not what she and Sasha wanted, it's not a marquee match, it's not them fighting each other in a blaze of glory clean and bright and true.

"Welcome to veteranhood, kiddos," Nattie says, clapping them both on the shoulders, "let's go - we've got three girls to make into stars."

The night it happened Kyle had dreamed about Adam for the first time in he didn’t know how long, dreamed about tagging together back early in their Future Shock days, Adam such a kid he hadn’t been able to grow his beard in yet and Kyle playing at being the veteran despite still being such a punk himself – and for days after when he closed his eyes Kyle would get a replay of desperate, panicked Adam making that last ditch reach for the tag before getting dragged out of the ring and into the dark by two multicolored blurs (of course it wasn’t until the episode finally uploaded that Kyle realized who those blurs were, or what it all meant, or why poor Adam had looked so fucking scared.)

The thing towering over him in the crossroad laughed at him, its single eye staring him down and an Irish lilt making its voice both seductive and obscene: “That one? How many chances would you give him to overshadow and betray you?”

And okay, maybe it had a point there, Kyle had actually stopped counting over the years but they’d always gotten past it and even if they hadn’t, he knew it didn’t matter – his partner was reaching out to make a tag. “Looks like at least one more."

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Ford Prefect, gin and tonic

It was amazing how many things came in pairs on this world, mused Ford. He could take or leave peanut butter or jelly on their own, but he still had a PB&J smushed in his rolled-up towel (things had gone much easier once he added bread to the equation — how could he have known the B was silent?); on the other hand, he had never found anything particularly amusing about laurels or general hardiness, but there must be something about Earth humor that he had yet to learn. He was fairly certain he had mastered the gin and tonic, but a little extra practice couldn’t hurt.

The G&T goes down rough but his cigarette mellows it some. His belly burns from the claw marks scored into, but John can't complain. This time everyone got to go home and the demon back to hell, but all he can see in his mind's eye is a little girl's arm dangling in his grip that no amount of gin can wash away.

Sugar and that guy who refused to admit he was friends with Hood were going at it again, arguing like an old married couple over god alone knew what, until Siobhan gave Hood a not so gentle kick under the table and asked, "Can't you go do something about that?" with a jerk of her chin toward the bar, because it had been a hard day and she knew she would enjoy her hard-earned after work drink a lot more once it was no longer accompanied by the soundtrack of those two constantly bickering in veiled threats and what she hoped were only metaphors.

Hood startled then asked, "About what, Sugar and Job?" once he had dragged his mind back into the present from wherever it had been wandering before she'd kicked him. At her nod of confirmation, he glanced over his shoulder at his friends, assessed the situation, then shook his head, took a swallow of his drink, and with a wry laugh said, "Nah, I know how to read the signs of when Job's in it for the long haul, Sugar too these days, and I'm staying as far away from getting in between those two as possible."

The chair is cold on his back when they fasten him down, but Rilian knows he does not suffer alone: there is another man strapped to a chair in some other world, and their shared madness forms a bridge connecting their minds.

The curse is upon him, and the knight with the dwarf-forged arm is there, holding him close, whispering in his ear to hold on to his memories, to wait because rescue is coming, that this ain't the end of the line, no way.

In the dream they couple, desperate and frantic for some small comfort, and each time, Rilian finds he has the strength for another day in the witch's care.

The thirteenth-century dagger lies in Bruce's palm, ornate, yet made for combat, perfectly balanced. He can feel Selina staring at it, coveting. This dagger is one he could give to her - with Jeremiah now in Arkham, her blood-lust is allayed, besides, she's found her weapon in her whip, and she probably wants to sell the dagger, may even need to to pay off some debt - but Bruce knows Selina will enjoy taking the dagger from him more.

The Adventure Zone: Balance, tres horny boys, bake off

The trick to it, see, wasn't to actually BAKE anything. That would only end badly.
The trick was to make the TWINS think you were going to try and bake something, get unceremoniously shooed from the kitchen, put up a token protest, try not to audibly cackle as you rounded the corner away, and then return an hour or so later for some truly baller macarons.

Peter seemed like a reasonable and personable man. If Martin's brain didn't start screaming in agony every time Peter came too near him, he might even have begun to like his new boss.

Anyway, the bloodsoaked sacrifice rituals and skulking in the tunnels under the Archives came almost as a relief -- Martin thought submitting to Peter's uncanny friendliness would've been a thousand times more painful than fighting off crazed cultists trying to kill him -- again.

“That’s from the lights on our Charlie Brown Christmas tree,” she laughed, “all eight of them. Next year I pick out the tree and I string the lights.”
And Sebastian’s heart swelled, because he already couldn’t wait for next year, yet the same time he wasn’t ready for this one to end. He should tell her that, he knew. “It’s not such a bad little tree,” he quoted instead.
Mia rolled her eyes even as she snuggled into his shoulder. “Good thing you had enough ornaments to fill all the holes in the branches.”
And he wasn’t going to think about whether that was a metaphor for their relationship, or how the radio was mangling the Vince Guiraldi Trio’s music. He was going to continue delivering corny lines until Mia either burst out laughing or kissed him to make him shut up. After all, wasn’t that what Christmas was all about?

He did what he had to do, of course; Harrow's soft heart had jeopardized everything that Viren had worked so hard for, and Viren could not allow that to go on.

But knowing that something is necessary does not make it easy, and the constant sound of Harrow's voice in his head must be the price that Viren is doomed to pay for needing to sacrifice his ... friend.

He only wishes that the Harrow in his mind would not whisper the words "on your knees" quite so often, with such ... insistence.
