So, against all sense and judgment, I've signed up for Yuletide.

First, thanks so much! I really appreciate you writing for me and I hope that you find something that inspires or interests you. Despite the character-centric match up, the fact is, I’m pretty agnostic as to characters. Whatever we've been matched on, don't worry because I like just about anything and what I don't like has to do with tone and characterization, not particular characters.

I've opted in for treats and gifts, yes, please and thank you!

Options are optional - What I love (totally optional):

  • UST; witty banter and snark; politics, finance, history or military strategy; World War 2; worldbuilding; gap-filling; culture clash; natural history, healthy, normal, romantic relationship between consenting adults; someone being extraordinarily clever and getting out of a jam; anything sly, wry, and silly; rapid fire dialogue; a delightful sense of the absurd; madcap adventures
  • A satisfying ending, delightful characterization, and to laugh at least once
  • Pagan and/or mythological influences;
  • I prefer humor over angst
  • Cross-overs, AUs, and Fusion Fics! (You can look at my work to see my interests and xovers)
  • Big monsters like sentient dragons, zords, dinosaurs, kaiju, transformers
  • I’m an old lady liberal, so if you go political, which is totally cool and I really enjoy, please lean hard left.
  • I generally prefer the ladies and/or POCs over the guys
  • Outside perspective/pov -- a well written OC observing a canon character where we know more than they do

I prefer f/m and f/f over m/m if you go romantic.

Character death is harder -- I don't have a problem at all with loved ones long gone, for example Temeraire grieving for past riders.

DNW: it's a short list but pretty strongly held: excessive angst, gore or violence; body horror, any dub-con whatsoever. I have a strong preference for humor over angst and romance/sex rather than violence.

Indiana Jones

Anything with Marion and/or Indy. I have more thoughts on Marion, but have fun filling the enormous gaps for either of them. You could give Marion some backstory; where did she live? How did she end up in Mongolia? What did she do after she and Indy split? What happened after her father died? Invent a gal pal with some fem-slashy goodness on the side. She accidentally discovers Themyscira and learns a zillion languages. She becomes a Nazi hunter. She works with Peggy Carter. Handwave away Mutt if you need to.

For Indy and/or Marion, a story with s
melly camels and donkeys, cursed tombs, loyal dogs, and finding lost cities and new species, and being good friends with the locals, drinking lots of gin and quinine to ward off malaria. Indy was in the OSS, so maybe Marion was too. Or in the SOE. What was she doing in the War? Was she a spy -- she'd be a great spy! Maybe they were spies together? I did a story where Indy was a Monuments Man at the end of the War -- you could build on that or give a role to Marion in scouring Europe for dangerous Nazi artifacts. Bonus for punching Nazis.

Or, maybe Marion and Indy are both eccentric professors and so you do an outside pov of their teaching assistants or administrators who are stuck covering for them all the time. Maybe Marion teaches the next class of lady adventurers. Most of all, have fun filling in the big gaps!

Jurassic Park

"Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth."
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
We can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back.”
I selected any character because I'm fine with any of the characters because what I most want is any of those characters dealing with Dinosaurs. Or Kaiju. Or Dragons. More dinosaurs. Make them sentient. Do a fusion with Pern or Temeraire or Pacific Rim or Dinotopia. I love Ellie Sattler so great if you can include her, if you are so inclined. You could have Alan and Ellie kicking creationists from one end of the geological timeline to the next.  Or Ian being reluctantly coerced into another dino adventure -- he is SO over it.  Or Tim and Lex as adults Dealing With Dinosaurs. A key message of Michael Crichton's work is -- corporations and their lawyers are short sighted money grubbers.  So feel free to play with that.

Temeraire

Even Temeraire himself is optional, so long as there are dragons. OCs are terrific here, too! Dragons, dragons, dragons. Dragon mythology. Famous dragons in history. Dragons and AU history, dragons and wars, dragon politicians post League of Dragons, dragons and xovers, dragons and fusion fics.  Or Temeraire at the end of the story -- what does English society and the world look like with dragons as full participants? What do dragons think of Brexit?  Donald Trump? The current 2022 crisis?

Temeraire also lends itself well to culture clash, characters, often out of time and place, sharing a different, more inclusive view, and often gently or more aggressively schooling (and possibly enlightening) those around them. I love Temeraire’s radical point of view (why can’t dragons vote?).

Rogue Squad/X Wing books
I'm here for the banter and high jinks and the Star Wars movie we didn't get.  Yub, yub commander.  I have a special fondness for Wedge, Talon Karrde and Booster, but really just anybody in those books, so long as it's the typical mess they get into and have to get out of on the basis of just being too damned clever and great fliers.  I noted in the sign up that in Kenobi we learn that a Force sensitive child named Corran Horn ends up being smuggled with his mother onto the Jedi Path/refugee line to avoid Sith inquisitors.  It's a blink and you miss it moment.  (Mike Stackpole was thrilled).  So if you are interested in developing that, go for it. Feel free to add my beloved Mara Jade.  Add Luke, Leia, and/or Han if you want.  Or Chewbacca.
1000 words of the Rogues drinking too much and getting thrown out of a bar is great by me.  Or they have to defend their funding to the Coruscant Senate and, like, put on a suit and someone is trying to school them in how not to piss off a Senator with subpoena power and control of the appropriations.

Thank you again and drop an anon comment if you have questions.

Well, [personal profile] snacky wrote me the awesome don't know where you're coming from but you're coming soon Peter/Sansa and ran the exchange![personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake wrote some wonderful things this year, including two gifts for me,Crouching scientist, hidden dragon a Eustace time travel with talking dinosaurs story (yes really) andAll shall love me and despair about the Narnia war machine, goose on a moose

And I did three stories!

For Love and rock music,
Fly By Night (15571 words)

Summary: Two months after D-Day, WC Reginald Tebbitt (code name Scribe) receives an urgent message from his agent, Mrs. Susan Caspian. Mrs. Caspian is still operating secretly in Nazi-occupied France under the name Jeanne-Louise Lambert (code name Rat). Tebbitt launches a desperate rescue mission and enlists the assistance of Rat's brother, Harold Linch aka Edmund Morgan aka Edmund Just aka Harold Jaller aka Justin Merle (code name Crow), who is reputed to be the fourth best forger in British Intelligence.

Yes, a return to war-time France, The Stone Gryphon and the Lucy and Edmund part of the story, Heart and Crow Make the Peace. the unwritten except I keep filling it in in bits and pieces. This follows the chapters, Heart and Crow Go To War and Kiss me Like a Soldier Headed For War, Rat and Sword Go To War, Black, White and Gray Wolf In Between (where Lucy runs away from school and Helen is visited by Briony, Hound and Nag and Chaos and Inspired Genius.Love and Rock Music is the primary Susan/Tebbitt shipper and has been insistent that I not kill off David Lowrey (who? Yeah, I know, but SHE remembers this minor character from TQSIT) so when I drew her for the Fic Exchange I decided to throw sense and most of my carefully constructed historical fiction research out the window and go for it.

The Star Wars/Narnia xover was for vialethe, syrena_of_the_lake, waywren and be_themoon. It turns out that in one of the recent Leia-focused Star Wars novels, the author Beth Revis gave Leia a sword and named it Rhindon, after Peter's sword. Really. So, well obviously I HAD TO USE IT. It's part of my Susan Joins the Rebels series.

Queentessential (5547 words)
Summary: Once a queen of Narnia, always a queen of Narnia. Or Princess of Alderaan for that matter.

And last, utter crack of the Washington DC insider variety, modern AU, Lucy Pevensie is a vampire crashing the conservative Heritage Foundation Halloween Party.  Stay away if politics are not your thing or if you aren't comfortable with fictional murder of the Republican Congressional leadership and a couple of Republican governors.

Reveals are up!  I got three amazing stories, including

The Sansa Stark in Narnia story I’ve wanted FOREVER
don't know where you're coming from but you're coming soon

Eustace Scrubb, Time Travel and Dinosaurs

Goose on a Moose Narnia War Machine

Everything is there, gen, het, slash, canon compliant and AU, Golden Age, Spare Oom, crack and crying, and crossovers (including Shadow & Bone, Star Wars, and GoT).  4 stories are meaty over 10K (for a 1K exchange, LOL) and there are plenty in the 1-3K and 4-8K range.

I have three stories in the collection!  A huge thanks to [personal profile] snacky  for an amazing exchange.

Really, it's all SO GOOD.  I can get a little frustrated with exchanges because they are never meaty enough for me.  I love character stories and set up but having introduced some great concept or idea, then I want to see what happens next.  Everything I've read for the NFE is so satisfying.

SO GO! READ!  I've got 3 stories in the collection, none of which are a surprise, AT ALL.  Duh.

My sign ups tend to be pretty similar year after year for the NFE. I didn't sign up last year, and really shouldn't this year, but we'll see how it goes. [EDITED AND UPDATED FOR NFE 2024]

So, first, thanks so much!  Despite the character-centric match up, I’m pretty agnostic as to characters for the NFE.  Anon posting is enabled here so if you have any questions, drop a line.  Whatever we've been matched on, don't worry because I like just about anything.   And if there's something you asked for that now you want to write, go for it.

Something I've come to feel really strongly is that there should be joy in your creation!  I hope what you write makes you happy.  One reason I don't sign up  for exchanges very often is that I feel like I'm a chore and that creating something is a misery.  Really, I don't want that guilt of making someone miserable  I would rather get nothing than make a writer anxious. It's just a story.

I like all the Friends of Narnia, so basically any and/or all Pevensies, Eustace, Jill, Digory and/or Polly.  Mr. and Mrs. Pevensie are great too.  I usually like at least one of the Friends in it somewhere, and at some point in their lives, but feel free to add others.

Something I really love about Narnia (and what I assume the Friends bring back to England) is the sense of wild diversity and inclusiveness.  The victory romp in PC is my idea of the very best of Narnia.  I love to see that abundance, acceptance, vibrancy, passion, color, and exuberance in a story.  If you go in this direction, feel free to explore canon and OCs, humans and non-humans, who are non-binary, LGBTQA, BIPOC, neuro-atypical, etc.   Celebrate the best of Narnia, whether here or there.

I generally prefer adults or adults in children's bodies -- in other words, they can be  young in appearance but old in terms of years lived, wisdom and experience.  From my previous prompts, you can glean the following, and I'm surprised at how little they've changed

What I also love:
  • UST; witty banter and snark; Politics, finance or military strategy; World War 2; Worldbuilding; Gap-filling; Culture clash, healthy, romantic relationship between exuberantly consenting adults (canon pairing or OC); any Narnian (Pevensie or otherwise) observed from a third person point of view.
  • Pagan gods and/or mythological influences as opposed to overtly Christian ones;
  • A Narnia with creaky wheels, the faint smell of manure, the stronger odor of wet livestock and dogs, grass stains, bare feet, pollen, open windows, and lots of animal hair and feathers
  • I prefer humor over angst and sex over violence.
  • Cross-overs!
  •  AU and canon divergence is great too.  Everyone stays/nobody leaves with A Golden Age > 15 years, with adult Pevensies, OC consorts, and the next gen.  Similarly, I’d love Everybody Lives (or almost everyone lives) Nobody Dies Spare Oom AU with a happily ever after
  • I have a huge body of Narnia work so if there's something that you want to explore, please go ahead.   Lots of stuff to play with or expand upon if you want.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: it's a short list but pretty strongly held:  excessive angst, gore or violence; any dub-con whatsoever; Susan written as "Fallen Away From Narnia because of Lipstick and Nylons"; Lucy sidelined or being protected by her overbearing big brothers and worry-wart sister.  I'm going to be specific here given what happened to me in remix last year -- please don't eliminate female characters in favor of a white m/m pairing.

As to ratings and pairings, for the NFE I prefer gen or T up to M for sexual content (not violence).  If you write a pairing, I prefer f/f, f/m and poly.

My crack xover prompts :
What I want is basically 1,001 words or an epic story of pure character bliss. The ones I requested are simply because that's what was in the tag set, but really, have at it.  And go ahead and explore other xovers besides those offered.  I love them.  MCU, LOTR, Star Wars? Vorkosigan? Chalion.  Yes, yes, yes.

For, Narnia/ASOFAI, with the Peter/Sansa request, these are characters who are duty bound and noble I feel there's so much potential.  I think they both would acutely feel the duty to produce heirs and really aren't terribly enthusiastic about it or the other person, at first.  This could be politics that turns into something more; frienemies or enemies or friends to lovers; UST; and most of all something where each first underestimates and then learns to deeply respect the other.

As for Arya and Lucy (not in the character options this year, but I'm nothing if not flexible), this is obviously high seas, high spirits, high jinx, swinging from the rigging.

Lucy and Leia are a grouping this year and wow that's a scary combination to think about.

Narnia/Star Wars:  Susan and Obi-Wan, Padme or all three.  Espionage, politics, clothes! And totally AU with young Leia and Luke, hell yes.

Narnia/LOTR:
This is even more cracky and even less formed.  I've just adored these pairings in the three sentence ficathon, but feel free to add any others.  Lucy/Aragorn or Lucy+Aragorn is all about darkness, fighting, spirituality, and healing.   Peter and Eowyn always delight me -- I always imagine Peter writing Eowyn lots of really bad poetry because he's a teenager still outgrowing his armor and just smitten but then maybe really tries to help her during the dark times leading up to the War.  Also talking Horses).    Susan with Arwen or Elrond or Galadriel (politics! power! beautiful clothes!)
Could be in Narnia or ME -- maybe Narnia abuts Rohan at a distant Northern border; maybe a diplomatic mission; maybe a plea for military aid or a spy mission gone awry.
Thank you much!

yeah I know. Work is hell. Like really and honestly hell. BUT
Prehistoric Planet is coming to Apple TV and I cannot WAIT.

We owned and watched, over and over and over, walking with dinosaurs, chased by dinosaurs, chased by sea monsters, Prehistoric Park, and When Dinosaurs Roamed America.  All awesome.  this will be epic.
Also Kenobi is coming.  I'm so so busy and everything is awful but I may have to take blood pressure meds to get through these two epic events.

As predicted, I got really busy this month, so I'm glad I started it early. Next year, we'll move to our own DW community, if I can get organized.
Thank you all for participating. Remember, you can fill any prompt, any time, all year, any year.   I just ask that you not post new prompts.

The Wordcloud isn't as efficient as it used to be and doesn't capture nearly as many common words and participants. But here's a snapshot of Post 2. (and by the way, as of this post, there are over 3800 prompts and fills in Post 2, and 5871 comments in Post 1. WOW.)
Friends, you are terrific and lovely and thank you for another great fest!

Also, for those of you who noticed all the Narnia prompts and fills, that's where a lot of us met and hang out, so if you are interested in doing more, be sure to follow the Narnia Fic Exchange which typically runs from around June/July to September.

I did a crackfic gift for Be-themoon, Snacky, Animus_wymris and WingedFlight. Leverage/Narnia xover. yes, really. Complete crack but with a return to the Evil Bankers and a bunch of dangling threads from Harold and Morgan Not A Romance. I was going to finish it up and get the second, concluding chapter done because The Big Thing I've Been Expecting Since November 2015 finally was released. Based on some sleuthing, we thought we weren't going to see it until March but, eh, so that's where I'll be the next 3 months. We got a 120 days to work on it.

The Fur and Feathers Job (6773 words) by rthstewart

Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Leverage
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Additional Tags: Evil Banker Morgan, Crossover, Alternate Universe, Golden Age (Narnia), Con Artists, Background Relationships, Talking Animals, Golden Age (Narnia): rthverse, Crack Crossover, Background: Edmund Pevensie/Original Female Character
Summary: Narnia needs leverage.

I had tons of fun working on this and I'm really looking forward to the actual heist.  Because damn, trying to steal a lot of money from an island stronghold isn't easy when you have to use a rowboat.  There are a zillion spin offs here that are possible and I want to write all of them.  Morgan and Parker discussing exchange rates and being autistic; Parker talking to Rabbits; Hardison determining that Narnians use the imperial system of distance measurement but measure weight by "stone" that does not correspond to any known weight because Helen didn't bring a one pound anything in her pocket, Eliot and Lucy swordfighting (yeah, I lowkey ship it), Eliot and Cook discussing the introduction of precursors to baking soda and baking powder; and so on.

I had problem with wordcloud but no matter!  We're in the final stretch! As of this morning, post 2 had 2600 comments and post 1 had 5624 comments (curse you CAPTCHA) and the volume has, predictably, dropped way, way off. This means it's a great time to start at the last page and work your way back and fill something that catches your eye and fancy or leave a prompt that you would love to see filled.

If it picks up again, I'll open another post (YIKES).

I've not participating as much this year, alas.  I've posted two stories and the Thing I was expecting dropped two days ago so work will now takeover my life.  But let me know if you've got any questions.

I will announce that ALL POSTS WILL BE CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS ON FEBRUARY 14.  (This is an extension of a day from the original Feb. 13). YOU CAN CONTINUE TO FILL PROMPTS AS LONG AS YOU LIKE!

(I feel badly because both of them would have done it better but we need Hwin and Bree buddy inspectors on the Car Paravel beat)
I've been SO SLOWLY moving through my WIPs.  I'm working on a Narnia/Leverage cross-over and only have one chapter left in Rat and Cat and some other things... and of course three sentence ficathon where there is some AMAZING stuff.  I'm not finding myself capable of doing much unless it's a prompt directed at me, so if you are so inclined, drop a prompt and let me know so I can find it!

Festivids went live and it's amazing and I love it so much.

UPDATE 14 FEBRUARY 2022 -- 3SF 2022 IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS!  Do continue to fill prompts already posted but the 3SF 2022 is now closed.  We'll be back next year in a new comm (If I can get my act together).  Thank you again!

THIS IS THE NEW POST FOR PART 2 OF THE 3 SENTENCE FICATHON -- ALL NEW PROMPTS SHOULD BE POSTED HERE
You may continue to fill prompts (but not leave new ones) at the original Post 1 here but please post new prompts here, not there.  And if you're asking, hey is just me, or did this get enormous really fast? Why yes, yes it did.  Last year, it took us ten days before I opened a new post.  This year, it took us about 5.5 days to get there.  So, by all means, go back and fill in Post 1 and post new prompts here!

Also woops, in an indication of how busy I've been with other things, I neglected to post that for a third year in a row the awesome [personal profile] conuly  started a master list of unclaimed prompts and has been updating it as time permits.  Obviously a huge task! Thank you!

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

Here's a Friending meme!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first.
I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.
  • First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
  • You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite at bit after about 2 weeks and especially once we open a new post because this one is approaching 4,500 comments.
  • Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
  • You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.
Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.

But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?

No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

Here's my attempt at a text box that might go horribly awry.

How long will it go?

The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 13, 2022. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long. (There were a bunch of new posts to the 2021 3SF this week!)

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present (and much more). I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment, protect yourself, and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

If I have questions, what do I do?

I'm rthstewart everywhere, here, Twitter, Tumblr, gmail and AO3.

A special thank you to [personal profile] conuly .
Last year, Conuly started logging all unfilled prompts.
This year's (2021) unfilled prompts are here.
Last year's (2020) unfilled prompts are here.
Conuly asks that you not reply, as they want to be able to edit and add more prompts to the list.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

We're at Day 5, give or take and almost 4100 comments.  I'll open up a new post at under 4500, which will likely be tomorrow.  For those of you thinking, oh my goddess, I'll never be able to read all that, yeah, me too.  This week has kicked me in the teeth so I'm looking forward to the slightly slower pace in the next week or two to get caught up.  Please join me! And no, I"m not going to read every prior prompt and you don't have to, either.  If you've had any problems, drop me a message, DM, email or otherwise.  There are lots of new people participating this year, and many familiar monikers, too, and the return of people who haven't been here in a while, so I'll start a friending meme post.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

rthstewart: 3sf (3 SF)

This is partly a test post.  I've got the 2022 3SF post in the queue on a private viewing setting so, in theory I should be able to just change the setting and it should work.

I've had lots of questions about "what about this prompt?" "Be sure to add this fandom!"  "Is this fandom eligible?" And yes, you should, yes, you can, and yes, they are.  As I stated in response to one person asking if only new fandoms were eligible, I responded that what I listed was just to get people started and thinking. You can prompt whatever you want and if you don't get fills, you can re-prompt or fill your own prompt. We have EVERYTHING, from anthropomorphic, historical RPF, Shakespeare, Star Wars and Star Trek (all flavors), BSG, LOTR, Silmarillion and Hobbit (book and movies) xovers, all sorts of podcasts and comics, to the latest on Disney+. There also tends to be a lot of Narnia (book and film) because that's where a lot of us hang out and we leave prompts and fills for each other. If you join with other online friends, you can do the same. There's a veritable ping pong each year between a couple of people involving the Iliad and Greek mythology and Queen Anne Neville/Richard III.

So, save up your prompts! I'll open it this weekend!

You can just ignore this link to this post.  It's a test

Tap tap. Friends, is it time to start your prompt-ing engines?
Once Yuletide is over, my thoughts turn to the 3SF which, historically, I've hosted in the month of February. However, I've been swamped all year with work and something that's sitting in a large, ugly office building near Pennsylvania Ave. NW in DC, will soon worsen things considerably and I'll really need to focus on that.

So, I'm thinking of starting 3SF a few weeks early, say next weekend 15 January 2022.
I thought about this weekend but heard complaints that this is too soon. People like to collect and think about prompts.
What do you think?

For a refresher, the rules, such as they are, from the 2021 3SF are here.  I want to emphasize again that I know that it can feel really overwhelming to walk away from 3SF for a couple of hours and see thousands of prompts when you return.  Really, truly, you do not need to read every prompt, you can fill a prompt that's already  been filled, you can repeat a prompt if you want, and you can start on the last page and work backward.  Also, usually, things slow down a lot about midway through and once we move to the second post at about 4,000 prompts and fills.  You can come in at any time, leave at any time, and start anywhere.

I was wondering what might be fun to prompt this year. Some new things, or old things new again:
  • Fellowship of the Ring 20th Anniversary
  • Harry Potter 20th Anniversary
  • Wheel of Time, netflix
  • Shadow and Bone, netflix
  • BTS
  • The Expanse
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • The grounding of the Ever Given
  • Dune
  • Godzilla v. Kong
  • Luca
  • West Side Story
  • Black Widow
  • Venom
  • The Eternals
  • Dickinson
  • Succession
  • Wynonna Earp
  • The Mighty Nein
  • Capybaras trashing a posh neighborhood in Argentina
  • Rampaging otters in Singapore
  • Chonky squirrel caught in bird feeder
  • Yule goat on fire
  • Return of Queer Eye
  • Boba Fett
These are just things to get you started. Start thinking of prompts, save them up, and we'll start next week. Drop me a line in comments below, on Twitter, tumblr, here or by gmail (I'm rthstewart everywhere) if you have any thoughts, suggestions, questions, or ideas. If you make any icons or banners, link me! As we know, I routinely fail at embeds but please spread the word!

Here's a word cloud from the second post of 3SF 2021. (and yes, I continued to get notices of new fills and comments all year long)
