It is BANNED BOOKS WEEK!  go forth and be subversive!

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed an uptick in kudos over on AO3 and to a lesser extent, a number of anon and guest reviews on fanfiction.net.  So, if, after reading, you pop over here, welcome and hello and thanks so much!  If you are new and did find this and are so inclined, I'd love to know how you found me.  Is there some recent post, or a stray comment somewhere that sent you into the wallow and bottomless pit that is my rambling?  Anon commenting is enabled here so drop a line if you want to and introduce yourself if you like.

I know there's one recent rec in comments to a Susan story courtesy of therck (and thank you!).  To that end, if you have not seen it, ursulav  wrote an amazing problem of Susan story, Elegant and Fine, It is wonderful so do go check it out.  [livejournal.com profile] wellinghall also mentioned Ursula's story in comments an entry or two ago here, so now I am reccing it properly!

I had wondered if the uptick over on AO3 is due to a Tumblr post a new reader told me about which warned people away from my work.**  The reader looked at the stories that were recc'd, decided they were not her favorite flavor of delicious cake and decided to check out those who were condemned, meaning me, for which I am so grateful!  Huzzah for new, cool imaginary friends! So, I wondered if others might have seen the same post and come via the same circuitous route!?

**(This isn't new.  Would-be readers have been warned away from me for years, I'm way too old for this nonsense and wasted too much hand-wringing energy on it (and yours as well gentle reader).  I like playing over here in my sandbox with my cool, imaginary friends and our yummy snacks and the teens in my life think it's hilarious.  They call me a hippie.  (yes, I hope you didn't just snort Diet Coke through the laptop at that prospect)  So, I'm not reopening that can of slimy worm bits, but was wondering if others have come via the same route.  In which case, maybe I should thank my critic, yes?

Last, work on the final chapter of this part of the H&M story arc proceeds.  I thought it might go up this weekend, but it's  not.  Soon!  And an event that I sought to avoid last year, I have decided to embrace this year.  So, bring it on.

So, yesterday, CBS released its trailer for a new series called Elementary which is, very much like the BBC's Sherlock, updating Sherlock Holmes by placing him, this time, in modern day New York City.  In a bit of bold casting, CBS has cast Lucy Liu as Doctor Joan Watson.

And now, apparently some in fandom are upset? Because the CBS show is disrupting the Sherlock/Watson pairing on the BBC show? I think? I found this which is poking fun at the supposed angst?

I sort of speculated on this back with the last Pride & Prejudice remake that I love Lizzie and Darcy so much, I don't really care so much about everything else that happens around them so long as their essential relationship is maintained in the adaptation.  I feel very much the same way about Conan Doyle.  I love seeing it remade, over and over in new and different ways.  I love the idea of an Asian woman as Watson.  (I'd like it even better if Holmes was an Asian woman, but hey, give it time).

It's in moments like this that I think I have waaay too much "T" and "J" on my Myers-Briggs profile to be in fandom.

Hello out there! A few things! First, sign ups for the Narnia Big Bang are underway! Only 10,000 words! or 20,000 words! And Artists! yes, please the Big Bang needs those who are good with art in whatever format -- fanmix, icons, drawing, digital, etc. etc. So, go! Sign up! Narnia Big Bang.

On the subject of writing, I am, having peppered [livejournal.com profile] l_a_r_m regarding what Richard Russell looks like post hospital stay. (Really, I have no idea).  Clio has been helping with Jill.  I am, oddly, writing the events immediately post-Silver Chair for the third time -- once in a draft that didn't survive the decision to abandon the initial outline and write TQSiT, a second time for Under Cover, and now this time.  I'm over 10,000 words in and it's going pretty well. My latest issue has been what I could lop off and do for the Narnia Big Bang -- which I really want to do. It's all overwhelming and daunting, and I'm feeling the failure acutely. I also recently saw a tattoo on a woman that said, "You're doing it wrong" and have considered that very appropriate given some of the latest.  Why do people always add the "but"?

In really, really exciting news, that I just saw via Twitter, the Royal Society has just made all its articles available online for free that are over 70 years old, going back to 1665, including Benjamin Franklin's kite experiment, Isaac Newton's first paper and Thomas Huxley's paper Remarks upon Archaopteryx lithographica which I cited in TSG.
