So, two VERY important things.

Important thing 1. Can anyone provide links to helpful hints about how to make DW more useful and mobile friendly? I know there was lots last year during the great migration?

Important thing 2. Econopodder, knitress, intrikate and I agreed yesterday that the prospect of an Obi-Wan series starring Ewan McGregor might be the only thing that would get us to buy Disney streaming. Because HELL YES.
Now, in honor of the return of [personal profile] dunc [personal profile] yav14 and [personal profile] hollywdliz to DW (go check them out, they're awesome and I hope other old SW fen join us), I would indeed be remiss if I did not pause a moment to reflect upon the awesomeness of Obi-Wan Dressed As Ewan (ODAE) who was the subject of collective INTENSE interest and devotion upon the release of Phantom Menace. (I don't precisely remember why we hit on ODEA but I suspect that it was because our devotion was so... devotional ... we all felt a little more comfortable adding an extra layer of fiction to maintain separation between the role and the actor. Also I suspect the Sith Academy was responsible. AND OMG IT'S STILL UP) (the immortal line. "He'd slept with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Again.")

Strutting, twirling, angsty, sarcastic ODAE. "No one bitch slaps my Padawan except me!" There was fic, SO MUCH FIC, there were 12 inch action figures dressed in silks and velvets, and there were many mini-cons and movie marathons where we pulled out VHS tapes, bootlegs and a very few things that could be seen on CD rom -- the making of TPM was a 2 disk set. And glitter. More on that below. We knew, INTIMATELY, each and every piece of art in the ODAE oeuvre where he was naked. In those days, ODAE took his clothes off for the sake of art, a lot. Full frontal. We were deeply appreciative.

I rather liked the following from Twitter, source: starwarsunderworld

Now, of course, there is a critical omission, as every Obi-Wanton knows:
Friends, tell me are you not aware of Curt Wild? Let me assure that, in those heady days of the late 90s, early 2000s, Obi-Wan Kenobi doused in body glitter was a VERY IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT.

You're welcome
Just imagine that with a padawan braid.

It is BANNED BOOKS WEEK!  go forth and be subversive!

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed an uptick in kudos over on AO3 and to a lesser extent, a number of anon and guest reviews on fanfiction.net.  So, if, after reading, you pop over here, welcome and hello and thanks so much!  If you are new and did find this and are so inclined, I'd love to know how you found me.  Is there some recent post, or a stray comment somewhere that sent you into the wallow and bottomless pit that is my rambling?  Anon commenting is enabled here so drop a line if you want to and introduce yourself if you like.

I know there's one recent rec in comments to a Susan story courtesy of therck (and thank you!).  To that end, if you have not seen it, ursulav  wrote an amazing problem of Susan story, Elegant and Fine, It is wonderful so do go check it out.  [livejournal.com profile] wellinghall also mentioned Ursula's story in comments an entry or two ago here, so now I am reccing it properly!

I had wondered if the uptick over on AO3 is due to a Tumblr post a new reader told me about which warned people away from my work.**  The reader looked at the stories that were recc'd, decided they were not her favorite flavor of delicious cake and decided to check out those who were condemned, meaning me, for which I am so grateful!  Huzzah for new, cool imaginary friends! So, I wondered if others might have seen the same post and come via the same circuitous route!?

**(This isn't new.  Would-be readers have been warned away from me for years, I'm way too old for this nonsense and wasted too much hand-wringing energy on it (and yours as well gentle reader).  I like playing over here in my sandbox with my cool, imaginary friends and our yummy snacks and the teens in my life think it's hilarious.  They call me a hippie.  (yes, I hope you didn't just snort Diet Coke through the laptop at that prospect)  So, I'm not reopening that can of slimy worm bits, but was wondering if others have come via the same route.  In which case, maybe I should thank my critic, yes?

Last, work on the final chapter of this part of the H&M story arc proceeds.  I thought it might go up this weekend, but it's  not.  Soon!  And an event that I sought to avoid last year, I have decided to embrace this year.  So, bring it on.

I've signed up for the Narnia Fic Exchange!  Have you?  Do sign up!  It's fun!
We had a great time getting caught up on the NFFR chat last night too!

And, I had the most wonderful, the most thoughtful email this morning from long time reader Ruan Chun Xian who said she was playing dress up with virtual dolls and ended up creating Lucy and Susan as Disney princesses (Ruan was annoyed because she couldn't find trousers for Lucy!!) and then she went further and DID MORGAN OF LINCH AND ANGLO-CARIBBEAN JILL POLE!

So you can see Susan, Lucy, Jill and Aravis here on her Tumblr. She pointed out that Susan looks a bit like Snow White except that Susan DOES/WOULD look like Snow White.  And below are all the ladies together plus Morgan.  (I LOVE Morgan's boots and her long braid and her plain green working gown).

Yes, I know, dread visuals but they are so lovely and I'm so grateful!!!  Thank you!!

short plea regarding H&M )

Mother's Day is a loaded thing, you know?  It's hard for those of us who wanted to be biological mothers and aren't, it's hard for those of us who lost mothers, it's hard for those of us who have become mothers to our mothers during end of life care.  So my thoughts are with you all.  Whether this is a good day or sad one, it is certainly one for reflection.  Some of us have had great relationships with our mothers and for some, those relationships have been really complicated.

As I see it, anyone, male or female, who has cared for another, in the home, school, community, or workplace, has been called upon to mother others who are in need.  Nuns, pastors, teachers, healthcare professionals, community developers and activists, all are called upon to mother others.  I wanted to spam this post with some of the awesome gifs and vids celebrating woman as protector and succor but I really suck at this.  So if you have something, go ahead and add it in comments if you are so inclined and I leave you with this example of mothering from Deathly Hallows Part 2.  (and no, not the one you are thinking of)
