3 Sentence Ficathon Part 2!!!

THREE SENTENCE FICATHON IS NOW CLOSED.  REALLY.  REALLY AND TRULY OVER.  RIGHT NOW.  UNTIL NEXT YEAR.  REALLY.  GO FORTH AND WRITE MORE FIC WITHOUT LIMITING IT TO 3 (OK SOMETIMES MORE) SENTENCES!  FREE THE PLOT BUNNIES!  WRITE EPIC SUSAN/MAGLOR!  EXPRESS YOUR RICHARD III FEELS IN HAIKU!  REMEMBER IT'S ALWAYS BETTER WITH DRAGONS!  OR BACCHUS!  TELL US ABOUT CASSANDRA AND PENELOPE, CLEOPATRA AND CLYTEMNESTRA!  IN FIC!

I'm not going to close the post to comments because already filled-prompts deserve love and attention.  If someone wanders in and fills a prompt or offers a new one, that's cool and I'm not going to go all stompy boots.  This has been awesome and my thanks to all of you for a great exchange.  I'll certainly host this again next year!

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

Wow.  Well, the votes are in and after almost 5,000 prompts, fills and comments, I decided to start a new post that will carry us through the conclusion of the 3 Sentence Ficathon which will conclude on April 7, 2013.

We have lots and lots of unfilled prompts still.  So, if you posted or saw a prompt you really would love to see filled, please post again here in the new thread and hopefully someone will give you an awesome fill!   Please continue to commented upon filled prompts and thank authors, but all new prompts and fills should come  here.

My thanks to everyone for the incredible participation.  Interest has flagged the last couple of days and I'm not sure if it's just that 4900 comments and 49 pages is just too daunting or if everyone has run out of ideas.  With a new thread, maybe this will make it easier for people to navigate it again, or maybe everyone is off on Spring Break!

To recap:

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This all started with the lovely CaramelSilver (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!).  This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

And thanks to Metonomia for the spiffy icon!

How long can it go?
The 2013 3 Sentence Ficathon will close on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

[personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

She doesn't quite know what to make of her son anymore, now that she's gotten him back, anymore than she'd known what to make of John once he'd ceased being Tarzan to the naked eye. Except John had always been Tarzan, beneath the skin, beneath the fine clothes and the Greystoke title and the cultured accent he'd had to learn, and if John had always been Tarzan, then somewhere beneath the too-long hair and the sun-darkened skin Korak is her own Jack, too. But they're strangers to each other now, as mother and child should never be, and Jane doesn't know if they'll ever be able to breach that divide.

Argh, I couldn't quite do it in three...

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-04-04 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
They'd known each other forever (he remembers her from family gatherings as a little girl with huge eyes, a kitten in one arm and a book in the other), but when he met up with her again in college (of course she wrote poetry, and he cringes to remember how he'd laughed at that, secure in his poly sci program) it was different somehow, and soon he'd been spending more time in her room than his apartment.

But that was years ago now (years that seemed like decades), and now that he's face to face with her for the first time since, backstage at the second debate while his brother crushes her husband in front of the crowds, he can think of only one thing to say: "Why, Anne, just tell me why."

Her eyes are still huge, even as they won't quite meet his, but her voice is steady enough as she says, "My father...after yours died, and you had to run, we thought you'd never come back from that, and I was..." she shakes her head and bites her lip before going on, but her hand drifts over her abdomen, and there's no way, he thinks, but some part of him knows it could be, "it doesn't matter now, but Edward, he was willing, and my father said I would be ruined, I didn't have a choice..."

Everything in Richard hardens, and his fingers curl into a fist as he says, "My brother will wipe the floor with the Lancasters, and when we've won this election, I'll take care of your father," and then he leaves her before he can say more, before the rage in him can spill over onto her; the York brothers have learned the lessons the Lancasters and Warwicks have taught them all too well, and he has a few calls to make, deals to broker; maybe he doesn't have time for it now, but he'll get Anne back in the end, at any cost.

"Oh, but Christopher, please, you don't know what it's like, with all this -what do you call it?- snow everywhere, and it's cold and everyone's so mean!"

He gave her one of his vaguest looks, which of course meant he was paying very close attention, and said, "Oh, very well; I did want to get away from Gabriel anyways, he can be so overbearing sometimes."

"Now that's settled, where shall we go?"

(This is more Christopher/Millie friendship; I'd set it during her first winter in Series 12.)

Turning in Revolutions

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-04-04 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He watches them pour over the shores of Britain, these Romans, and feels something tug inside himself; they remind him of his own people, with their urge to organize and build and order, to shape the world to their whims.

He sees their leader once, the man called Caesar, and is reminded of his father, the same strength and purpose, the same will capable of holding thousands of individuals, of making them into one driving force.

He flexes the fingers of his burned hand, and takes up his ancient sword once more; when Caesar and his Romans are driven from the shores, he stands alongside the cheering Britons, and is not sorry to see them leave.

Greek mythology, Aeneas + Helen, why you? (prompt left by [personal profile] vialethe)

Forsan et haec (Aeneas to Helen)

I blamed you for the vengeance of the Greek,
A city burnt to ashes for your sake;
But now I know the price that Fate can seek,
And I too have left fire in my wake.
Far better men than I, in simple truth,
Have glutted carrion-birds on Ilium's plain;
More virtuous wives than you died in their youth,
Or, living, suffer slavery's harsh pain.
Is 'pious' just another word to call
Obedience: to go where the gods drive?
They say my mother's will brought you to Troy.
Divine ones, is it useless after all
To ask why one was chosen to survive,
To ask why one was chosen to destroy?

(And for those who fill them! You will have to provide your own soundtrack, as Maglor is busy chasing wabbits.)

Maglor found himself chasing the rabbit through a burning town, while the rabbit, somehow contriving to stay a few steps ahead of him, twirled the Silmaril insouciantly between its fingers. He screeched to a halt at the top of a cliff which certainly had not been there a moment before; the rabbit missed its step and tumbled off, leaving Maglor feeling absurdly guilty. But wait, was the rabbit truly flapping its ears like wings -- and did it just wink at him?

Galadriel twirled the ring between her fingers, considering. Was it wise to draw on her own strength so that Laurelindorenan might be preserved for a day longer, might even be flooded with such potent magic that it felt, for a while, like a piece of Irmo and Este's gardens? To wield such power, to create something pure and beautiful with it, was hard to resist.

nothing gold can stay

[personal profile] edenfalling 2013-04-05 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"And what about Fledge -- I know he must have been long since dead and dust, but surely there were herds of winged horses to grace the skies?" Polly asks, leaning forward across Digory's desk, which they have turned into an impromptu table since his study is the only room in the house both private enough and furnished with comfortable enough chairs for an hours-long discussion of Narnia.

Digory shakes his head, remembering the blank confusion on the Pevensies' faces when he had asked that same question of them: "Jadis held particular enmity against him for his part in our quest for the apple; if any of his blood survived her winter, they did so in hiding and in other lands and not even Aslan could call them home."

"So much lost," Polly says, her hand tightening on the edge of her tumbler, and they sit together in silence, imagining the cold, barren death of the bright world they watched unfurl in joy and song.

Elessar looks over his kingdom from the top of Minas Tirith, where the land stretches in front of him as far as the eye can reach. In an unguarded moment, if there was any to see, emotion clouds in his face as he remembers the hard years before this time, the years of darkness and evil lurking in the shadows. But now, this age is different; this age is one of laughter and life, peace and happiness, a Golden Age that generations will speak of for centuries to come.

When Mallory comes home from school for the first time, she's surprised at how overwhelming it is, even in spite of being used to dorms and cafeterias and endless classes. But everyone has questions to ask and stories she has to repeat for the ninth time, wishing she could just stick them in a book and have it be done just the once.

Vanessa, of course, is the one who asks about what she's reading, and Mallory gratefully walks her through the syllabus late that night, glad to have someone who understands.
