3 Sentence Ficathon Part 2!!!

THREE SENTENCE FICATHON IS NOW CLOSED.  REALLY.  REALLY AND TRULY OVER.  RIGHT NOW.  UNTIL NEXT YEAR.  REALLY.  GO FORTH AND WRITE MORE FIC WITHOUT LIMITING IT TO 3 (OK SOMETIMES MORE) SENTENCES!  FREE THE PLOT BUNNIES!  WRITE EPIC SUSAN/MAGLOR!  EXPRESS YOUR RICHARD III FEELS IN HAIKU!  REMEMBER IT'S ALWAYS BETTER WITH DRAGONS!  OR BACCHUS!  TELL US ABOUT CASSANDRA AND PENELOPE, CLEOPATRA AND CLYTEMNESTRA!  IN FIC!

I'm not going to close the post to comments because already filled-prompts deserve love and attention.  If someone wanders in and fills a prompt or offers a new one, that's cool and I'm not going to go all stompy boots.  This has been awesome and my thanks to all of you for a great exchange.  I'll certainly host this again next year!

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

Wow.  Well, the votes are in and after almost 5,000 prompts, fills and comments, I decided to start a new post that will carry us through the conclusion of the 3 Sentence Ficathon which will conclude on April 7, 2013.

We have lots and lots of unfilled prompts still.  So, if you posted or saw a prompt you really would love to see filled, please post again here in the new thread and hopefully someone will give you an awesome fill!   Please continue to commented upon filled prompts and thank authors, but all new prompts and fills should come  here.

My thanks to everyone for the incredible participation.  Interest has flagged the last couple of days and I'm not sure if it's just that 4900 comments and 49 pages is just too daunting or if everyone has run out of ideas.  With a new thread, maybe this will make it easier for people to navigate it again, or maybe everyone is off on Spring Break!

To recap:

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This all started with the lovely CaramelSilver (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!).  This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

And thanks to Metonomia for the spiffy icon!

How long can it go?
The 2013 3 Sentence Ficathon will close on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

[personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

In the Garden

[identity profile] saoirse7.livejournal.com 2013-04-05 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Mary quietly plucked the petals off of a flower, sitting pensively in the Garden as Dickon held a conversation with one of the robins, a descendant of the robin that had led them into the Garden in the first place. "Do you love me?" she asked at last, and it had taken all the courage in the world to voice the simple question.

"Love thee?" Dickon repeated in surprise, and laughed, "I've loved thee for years, Miss Mary; didn't you know?"

At first she jokes she left her job because she was tired of explaining that her name was Joan, not Jenny; and when that doesn't work, she tries to pretend it's her life's new calling to help new trainers master their Pokemon--better that than trying to explain the crippling guilt of watching a patient fade as she realizes there's nothing she can do to save it as its ten-year-old trainer watches in horror.

And then she meets Sherlock, scion of Celadon City's wealthiest family who's left home with his Squirtle to make a name for himself thirty years late; or at least that's what she thinks until, outside Viridian City's deserted gym, he breaks his sulky silence to pull out a lockpick and pronounce: "Well, here we are."

She just looks at him in surprise, and Sherlock huffs out an exasperated breath; "Don't tell me," he demands (and some tiny part of Joan recognizes, even then, that her life will never be the same again), "you haven't heard of an organization called Team Rocket?"

and because I can't resist. Apparently they have a Pokemon corresponding to every type of animal there is?

Richard is proud of his Emboar, and well should he be; the Lancasters's Pokemon all bear the marks of its claws, and he owes every one of the hard-earned badges pinned to his shirt to Emboar's resilience. Even Ned's Sunflora, splendid as it is in high noon, takes some effort to challenge it; and the less said of George's Tauros, the better.

But sometimes, between battles and contests, he remembers his Tepig, still small enough in those days for Anne to hold in her arms and absentmindedly caress as she listened to him describe his ambitions for hours, and he feels just the slightest pang of longing.

Narnia, Eustace/Jill, chasing memories

[identity profile] heliopausa.livejournal.com 2013-04-07 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Scrubb, Scrubb..." she said, and clenched her fists to try to not let her voice get wobbly again, "I know it was real, and it would help me so much, back here, if I could only remember it as real as it was, especially... you know... Aslan, what he said, and how it felt to be with him, and I try, I really try, and I just can't; it's all getting blurry in my mind."

Eustace grimaced, because that was what time did: it settled down like fine dust over memories of things and times and meetings once so clear and sharp and precious, little by little, and eventually was going to turn everything, he supposed, into a grey blur.

"I think," he began, heavily, "that it's just the way things are right now, and we just have to put up with it, but - do you remember that sleeping giant, called Time? - I sometimes think that when he wakes, and stands up in the open air, really awake, then maybe all the dust will fall off, and the precious things will come sharp and clear and alive again, maybe."

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her Own Making, September, back-to-school

on the ends of things

[personal profile] buttonloops 2013-04-08 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
She wakes up the next morning, and it is strange to find she has been sleeping on her old embroidered pillow, and Ell and Gleam and Saturday and even the faithful smoking jacket are all far away—a hop, skip, and eternity away. The summer stretches out before her, and she realizes that she will wash pink-and-yellow teacups and gravy boats every day of it, and in the fall she will go back to school, and everything will be just as it was; but nothing will ever be as it was. Her time in Fairyland has come to an end, but next year she will return, and the seasons will go around and around and forever she will be the same September she always was and forever she will be different, and always it will be an adventure.

When he tells her in a broken whisper that he can't live without her, his wife, the one Gallifreyan in known history with the cheek to refuse the Academy's invitation, grumbles, "You Time Lords, always so sure you're the only ones who've unlocked the key to immortality,"--and if her voice is soft these days, the tone of irritation he hears in it is not; "I will," she says, with a faith he can't understand, "always be with you."

Immediately after the funeral, he takes a TARDIS and his granddaughter and sets out into the universe to find her, and find her he does: in Romana's asperity and Sarah Jane's endurance; in Jamie's loyalty and Jack's determination; in Grace's cleverness and River's shameless flaunting of the rules, and after all, always she loved roses.

She is right (she is always right): he is never alone.

A Sweet Farewell

[personal profile] moon_blitz 2013-04-07 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Little Amelia feeds him toast with marmalade after he crashes in her back garden, and he smiles, know that they will feed each other all kinds of strange things in the future. Her future that is - for it is his past, and the joy at seeing Amelia (he can't call that innocent child Amy, no, not after what he's done to grown-up Amy) helps to ease the pain a little.

As he slumps against the wall of the TARDIS, waiting for death and then life to claim him yet again, the Doctor savors the taste of orange marmalade and hopes that whatever his next regeneration brings - new teeth, new hair, new everything - he will be able to hold the look of wonder on Amelia Pond's face at his arrival forever in his mind.

He tells her the story of the children he stole, and who stole his heart in return (her face hardens at that, and he remembers too late her feelings on children taken from their rightful places), and lets their names fall from his lips for the first time in years.

“Elrond?” she asks, surprised, the anger falling from her face (and oh, he is grateful for that, for already he knows he couldn't bear it if she were to scorn him, this mortal Queen out of time), and she continues, “But how strange, I read a story when I was a little girl with a wise elf lord named Elrond, and dwarves and a hobbit too!”

He thinks back to the gunfire, and the trenches, the screaming horses and the seemingly endless wounds he'd patched up, both not so long and a lifetime ago, and says mildly, “Did you think you were the only one I had ever thought to share my tales with?”

When Elrond's children are young, they ask about his parents and his brother - they know their other grandparents, of course, but they are curious about the family they have never met.

He tells of his mother, of the last time he saw her, flying away from the Havens of Sirion, a white bird stark against the blue sky, as he and his brother watched from the window, crying and clutching each other's hand, afraid and alone.

But when asked of his father, Elrond hesitates - because there is one who is little more than a name and a few flashes of memory to him, and there are the others who wrought such destruction, and then raised him and his brother with such love and care - and finally he points to a star in the sky, and then tells his children of Maglor and Maedhros.
