I'm not going to close the post to comments because already filled-prompts deserve love and attention.  If someone wanders in and fills a prompt or offers a new one, that's cool and I'm not going to go all stompy boots.  This has been awesome and my thanks to all of you for a great exchange.  I'll certainly host this again next year! 

Wow.  Well, the votes are in and after almost 5,000 prompts, fills and comments, I decided to start a new post that will carry us through the conclusion of the 3 Sentence Ficathon which will conclude on April 7, 2013.

We have lots and lots of unfilled prompts still.  So, if you posted or saw a prompt you really would love to see filled, please post again here in the new thread and hopefully someone will give you an awesome fill!   Please continue to commented upon filled prompts and thank authors, but all new prompts and fills should come  here. 

My thanks to everyone for the incredible participation.  Interest has flagged the last couple of days and I'm not sure if it's just that 4900 comments and 49 pages is just too daunting or if everyone has run out of ideas.  With a new thread, maybe this will make it easier for people to navigate it again, or maybe everyone is off on Spring Break!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This all started with the lovely CaramelSilver (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!).  This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

The 2013 3 Sentence Ficathon will close on Sunday, April 7, 2013. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Joanie gets straight As and smiley-faces on all her report cards, but sometimes she gets other notes, scrawled into the margins for her parents to read; she looks anyway, since no matter how much her teachers tell her it's not polite to snoop, she figures it must not count if it's about you. It's nothing real interesting, just more about how Joanie needs to work on minding her manners (by which they mean she pointed out Miss Thomas was going to have a baby soon, seeing as how she keeps on smiling at baby pictures and carrying tiny socks in her bag and throwing up an awful lot, just like Mama did before Oren was born), and she knows Mama and Daddy will give her another long lecture on the subject when they get home.

"I was kind of a weird kid," she admits with a laugh years later, "it's probably a good thing I grew out of it" (and no one, except maybe Sherlock, notices that she can never meet their eyes when she does).

Eep! I can't remember if Joan's canonically the oldest or not. Have we been told?

In the evenings Eric wades out as far as he can stand, even when the water is cold, and he wishes and wishes to truly become part of the sea, a man who is fish; sometimes he sees things from the corner of his eyes, and he swears that they are fish tails too large to belong to any sea creature he's ever heard of (Grimsby dismisses the claims and frets over him out there alone at night, so he has to learn to sneak out after that).

One day a voice rises from the ocean, and he almost chokes on a wave and his surprise; "So you want to be a merman?" the voice queries, deep and dark, and a woman rises out of the water, broad and white-haired, with octopus tentacles.

Her lips are a bruised red and when he signs the contract, she kisses him so deeply that he can't breathe until she releases him and he sinks into the water, his legs aching as they change, and he thinks that he's surely drowning until he realizes he can breathe - perhaps, he thinks, for the first time.

"I wish this carpet could fly!" the girl (his sixteenth master...or is it seventeenth, or eighteenth - it's getting difficult to remember) screams, after the rolled up rug gets tossed off the balcony, with her still rolled up inside.

A second later and the carpet is soaring instead of dropping, tassels flapping in the wind, and he says, "I told you so - those people don't like suspicious gifts, even when they don't come with spy-flavored filling, and besides, the pattern on that thing - ugh!"

She glares at him, which is not unexpected (he's going to have to learn to stop insulting his masters one day, if he ever means to be free), but the funny thing is, he's pretty sure the rug is too, and suddenly he wonders if this sheepish, uncomfortable guilt is what it feels like to be a parent who's just inadvertently insulted their own child.

She grows up in the sneering shadow of Scar, and for a time she's small and frightened as a mouse, feeling small as Zazu and even more defenseless - at least he could fly away (though he never does, even though she's sure he could fit through his bone cage if he wanted), while she's bound to the earth by four clumsy paws with claws too tiny to help her.

She creeps about after her mother, until her mother grows thin and weak, too listless to even twitch her tail to shoo away the constant flies, and then she follows Sirabi, and remembers the friend she used to have.

Sirabi is always proud, always fierce, and it's she who tells Nala, "Remember what you are inside, just as the land remembers having life, and waits even now to bloom again," and after that Nala remembers, and is unafraid when she sets out on her own, in search of food, in search of hope, in search of a way to bring his kingdom down.

Chihiro meets Haku by chance on the street five years later, a slight and incongruous figure amongst the tarmac and street signs and neon. He is just as she remembers; straight black hair, traditional clothing and his eyes that remind her of the murky depths of river water and in the space between one breath and another she remembers everything else; the whole surreal fantasy of masked gods and steaming water and tiny balls of soot she'd tried her best to pass off as a dream.

He reaches for her and says "Take my hand," and as Chihiro clutches at his narrow fingers, she realises she's flying.

The class goes silent about two seconds after he steps through the door, and Iroh tries to ignore the fact that everyone is looking at him. As he settles at his desk, noting that his seatmates are either staring openly or not looking at him at all, he tries to understand why his family thought this was a good idea.

Then the boy nearest to him leans over and asks shyly, "Hey...is it true that your grandfather really worked at a tea house?", and Iroh realizes that everything will be just fine.

Katara dislikes the phone because no one ever sounds like they do in person, in her opinion, but she doesn't hesitate to pick it up when the shrill trill sounds; the snow is falling hard outside and no one will be traveling in the Southern Water Tribe any more this winter if they can help it, except by air (which is, of course, how Korra and her son had came; they'd left only days before, bending and purpose restored without Katara's help in the end, no matter how she'd tried).

"What in the world is going on in Republic City?" Zuko snaps without preamble, and Katara knows that he isn't mad at her; the fact is, he called her first because he knew she'd have the best intelligence on the matter, and he trusts her judgment; he mutters something darkly about having only left for a few months and everything falling to pieces, and she smiles, wishing he could see it and realize how ridiculous he sounds.

"Everything's under control now," she says, and after a moment's consideration, adds casually: "Your grandson seems quite taken with Korra"; she listens to him sputter and she laughs and begins filling him in on recent events.

Aang has been talking to Korra for years - she just doesn't know it, and he's waiting patiently for the day that she will realize that he's here to give her advice when she needs it. He hadn't expected her to realize her spiritual side so late, but then again, it had been so easy for him -- he realizes this now, that he struggled with the physical in the same way she fights with the metaphysical, and until she realizes that she has to stop pushing and open up.

She presses hard against the world and it pushes back until she can go no lower - and that is when he reaches her, when he smiles and shows her all of the Avatars around her who are available for counseling - and it is worth the wait, he thinks; he is so proud of his successor.

Really, Cat thought, one would think that Chrestomanci could have chosen a better time to bring him on his first out-of-Series visit; he was just shaken awake at three in the morning, and then Chestomanci did something, but Cat's sleepiness messed it up, and now there were here (wherever here was, though apparently they were still in Series 12). Then a girl who looked exactly like Julia walked out of the house in front of them, fuming about her brother named Felix. Cat looked skyward, "Oh, no, not this again!"
