Moving on from Archivefail!
With my previous post, which
l_a_r_m has now dubbed Archivefail! nearing 100 comments, I'm going to stop commenting over there. I won't close the comments or anything. While I have thought for a while that aspects of the Narnia fandom were regrettably ripe for a wank, I did not think it would be this particular variety. I have it on good authority from
snacky that even here we aren't there yet.
Admittedly someone trying to lecture
snacky and
cofax7 on the history of fandom is pretty funny. There has been some additional comment activity which
lady_songsmith linked to which included an allegation of threats of exclusion from the fandom because the blogger told an author With Lots of Very Important Friends that I think the way they treat their readers is despicable.
I don't think that's me (I don't think I've been called despicable by a reader (yet)). But if it is, that means you all are Lots of Very Important Friends and I certainly agree with that.
So with that, prompts for Narnia Big Bang begin tomorrow!!! Are you thinking of prompts to help people get ideas? I posed some in NFFR chat last night:
Beaver ninjas
Gay giraffes (which I'm actually going to use in the next chapter of AW)
VE Day
Also, it looks like the NFFR AsCast will be getting going again. Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

Two things occurred at once that were not on the schedule and so were worrisome in that they were unexpected. The newly installed telephone – there because of Asim’s work (whatever it was at the moment but obviously very intense) – pealed at the precise moment there was a frantic ringing of the front door bell.
Polly's immediate thought was that it was a disaster in the War that was summoning Asim, but the reports from Guadalcanal and Stalingrad had not been any more horrific than might have been expected and might even be better.
Asim rose from his morning coffee for the telephone on the assumption it was for him. On the roster, it was Kun’s turn to get the door and on his way to the front hall he grabbed some coin from the kitchen till in case it was a messenger boy from the village. Anyone local and deliveries came to the back door.
Polly did not want to listen, of course, but everyone at the table held a collective breath. The telephone was very new and they still thought it only to be used in the most dire of emergencies.
“Of course,” Asim said politely. “A moment please. She is right here.”
There was a little gasp from Lee – a death? But Asim shook his head. “Polly, it’s the Zoo on the phone,” and handed her the receiver.

... and I don't suppose the Zoo is calling to ask her to come down and sort out the mess about some strange Lion running amok at Experiment House?

This marks the third time I will have written this segment -- once in a draft that had this scene occurring in 1947 when Experiment House was but a few miles from Russell House (Sorry, Ma'am, I'm so late this morning but there was a dreadful ruckus at the school and the hospital staff were called in), and then again in Under Cover. I think it's one reason why it's taking me so long. This is squarely in the area of territory I'd never, ever intended to cover.
