caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

It's almost dusk by the time Ginny turns the key in their always slightly-jammed lock and steps into their cozy flat, the home they've created together, piece by slow piece.

Luna, backlit by the setting sun, like an orange halo setting her hair alight, turns to her and smiles serenely. "Hullo, love. Did you get lost on the tube again?"

"I don't want to talk about it," Ginny grumbles, trudging inside and flopping into Luna's lap with a dignified huff.

The diplomacy of conducting escape plans through Shadowfax and talking horses is brilliant, and I love how Peter has grown here, and respects and understands Eowyn now as much as he had puppy-love for her when he was younger - the juxtaposition of his notice of her with Eomer and Theodred's assumption that that's just how it is for a woman is wonderful, and very telling of both Peter's character and Narnian society in general. I'm going to have to do more prompting...

There's a celebration after they all return to Earth, because there has to be, with everything they've been through, and of course they all have to be there. But the six of them—Shiro, Keith, Pidge, Hunk, Lance, and Coran—take the day before to spend together, to quietly remember with the only people who will understand.

Before they can celebrate their victory, they need to mourn who they've lost.

It's been the most ridiculous year since Barnaby became a hero, and that counts both the first and second seasons he was on Hero TV. He and the others have been doing their best to give up the points without anyone guessing what they're doing, least of all Kotetsu.

But it's worth every last minute of frustration when Kotetsu is named the King of Heroes, and Barnaby will cherish the absolutely gobsmacked look on his face for the rest if his life.

("I don't need it," Kotetsu tells him later. "I never have."

"I know," Barnaby says. "But you deserve it. And you're always the King of Heroes to me.")

The story is winding down now, and she doesn’t know how many nights she has left in her. She will create another world tomorrow or she will die, but she is not the first woman to continually undo her work to buy herself more time. Penelope used linen instead of language, but the principle is the same: she knows her own art and can easily reuse threads and notions in arrangements that seem entirely new to her audience.

The trailer for her music tour instantly reminds Kate of the caravan she grew up, of all the years traveling around, cold winters and cool summers and the vagabonds her father pointed out to her. "Those are the consequences of idleness and sin," he used to say.

As she settles into her temporary home, she reminds herself of the difference: today, she is the one in charge.

Adora promised they'd always look out for each other and Catra had actually been dumb enough to believe her, right up until Adora ditched her for bow guy and stupid sparkle princess. Now that she has them, she kind of wants to rip their friend-stealing hearts out, but no. She'd much rather see the look on their faces when Adora inevitably does it for her.

Some days as a Middleman you might find yourself fighting giant ugly cyborg slug monsters who then combine into what must be the slimiest kaiju ever (Ida'll insist it only ranks in at #4, historically speaking), and you jump in the Middlejet and blast that sucker full of missiles before it has a chance to stomp on Los Angeles's Little Tokyo neighborhood, because that's your job and you love doing it. Other days you might find yourself fighting hyper-carnivorous space kittens, and days like that kind of suck, because you feel bad for punching anything so adorable in the face even though you know they'd eat you bones and all along with everyone else if given half the chance. And some entirely other days yet, you might find yourself teaming up with the latest species of cute fuzz ball to fight a robot kraken (the fuzz balls will somehow look cuter when their fur is wet and scraggly and slightly singed after a triumphant battle, and Lacey will be mad if somebody doesn't share pictures), and those days are kind of the best, Wendy thinks, though she still believes the Ewoks were a sign that Star Wars jumped the shark.

Sam drags himself into the apartment, every single muscle screaming in pain like he hasn't felt since boot camp years ago.

Bucky, the chipper asshole, claps him on the shoulder and doesn't even look remotely like he's been at the gym for the past four hours. "Spar again tomorrow?"

Sam glares at him with every ounce of irritation he can muster. "I'm gonna go get blitzed on ibuprofen, sit in the bath for two hours, and then tomorrow, I'm gonna kick your ass."
