3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

A princess of Achaea must have certain expectations for her heart: it is to be spacious, so as to accommodate her husband and his hall and every last one of his flaws; it is to be hard as stone, so as to let no distractions enter; and it is to be steady and immutable through all the years, so as to never change in a way her family dislikes.

Under no circumstances, Helen knows without having to ask, is it to value gossiping in the gardens with her cousins and sisters over sitting in silence beside her husband; nor is it to see the potential that lies within her daughter and seek to make Hermione more than just yet another trophy to be exchanged for land, wealth, or power; nor is it to yearn for things unknown and untold.

Her flight with Paris is due far less to fickleness and far more to despair than anyone ever suspects.

ffffffff HELEN this is perfect and I love how it zeroes in on critiquing that idea of her fickleness.

I always thought there had to be some reason why she left, other than "eh, Paris is pretty easy on the eyes" (And don't even get me started on versions where other women start judging her for why she leaves--my least favorite of these being all Penelope perspectives of the Trojan War cycle, all of which that I have read so far have Penelope outright blaming Helen for Odysseus leaving, never mind that Penelope's only canonical mention of Helen is to defend her by arguing she'd only eloped because the gods were influencing her choices.).

:DD ALL OF THIS YES.

I constantly see that concept of - if we are giving voice and such to a study of Penelope, that means we have to condemn Helen. It's the Type-1 Girl vs Type-2 Girl thing that is just so stupid. I get the same feels over the portrayal of Hermione that has her married off and bitingly envious of Andromache-as-slave who has "stolen" her husband. It's definitely okay for women to be petty, yes, but my headcanon Greek/Trojan women know each other better than that, and know the world stage better.

YES. As always, there is no right way to be a girl. And yes, exactly, about the Hermione & Andromache thing! I mean, good lord, haven't both of them suffered enough already ?! In my head, Hermione's first reaction to Andromache is: "Tell me about my mother, please."
....
And now I want to prompt this. Damn.

This is wonderful - gives Helen some agency and reasoning behind her choices!

Ooh, I'm glad you like it--Helen with agency is exactly what I was going for, so I'm thrilled to see that it worked! She's such an interesting character to examine, so I wish she wasn't usually condensed down to spoiled beauty queen in mainstream fiction!
