I'm not really celebrating a birthday tomorrow
No, really, if you have me on birthday alert, January 1 is not my real birthday. It, like Ruth Stewart, is a fiction.
And I'm still working. On work. A lot. Oh happy new year, NOT. This means no writing for fun. Really, at my age and seniority this should not be happening.
As it turns out MissPage was only one of several busy hitting the fav and alert keys on ff.net. Seriously, where are you all coming from, what are you reading, and how do I thank you and what do you think of whatever it is that you are reading? It is lovely and making up for a rotten week on top of a rotten holiday on top of a rotten autumn -- near health disasters do however provide a certain clarity of thought.
On the other paw, we did not get hit by Huge Snowpocalypse, as we got our share of white last year, followed power outages in winter and summer So, my sincere condolences to those of you who are stranded, stuck, and digging out. I feel your pain. Have an Advil and a glass of wine.
Also,
autumnia , did you see the yuletide cross over between Narnia and Anthony Bourdain? The stories are all here
This year in fandom? A mixed bag. TSG Part 2 ended with a whimpering slide that still's got me down, and more depressing still, I watched H&M kinda sorta die. But, I didn't get the message and continued to write. I had two stories in the Narnia Fic Exchange, returned after a long absence to smut, and began AW. I have, best of all, met some really lovely and interesting women along the way. I battled the mid-summer urge to tear everything down and instead began cross posting over on AO3. Also, I discovered that my very first fic, written over 15 years ago, is still getting recs. I lost it about 3 computers ago, but it's still on one private archive, so I've started posting it on ff.net. It's so quaint and the comma usage is really atrocious.
I saw Harry Potter three times, Narnia twice, read a lot of books about World War 2, went to an SPN Con with
l_a_r_m , watched most of Merlin Season 3, fell in lurve with the adorkable Matt Smith as the new Doctor, and started running again. I'm up to 6 miles at a stretch on the treadmill, so go me.
A Happy Near Year to you all! I greatly, greatly value my imaginary friends and the fandoms that we share!

Despite a lack of reviews (which many of us can relate to), I suppose knowing people have been favoriting one's stories or adding them to alerts has been helpful. And besides, the reviews you DO get are a fascinating read in itself. I went and checked out Clio's reviews to you and really, it is AMAZING what your readers say about the research into your stories and then seeing what they themselves know about the subject. You have a lot of intelligent readers, rth, and I think we are all learning from what you write and what they say as well.
On the plus side, I have survived Snowmageddon and managed to have some lovely afternoon teas two days in a row (of all my food excursions, that is my one weakness). I do hope you manage to defeat the work monster and enjoy some quiet time today.
And a Happy New Year to you as well, my fellow Libra! Here's hoping 2011 will be so much better.

I've met lots of reviewers who thoroughly intimidate me with how smart, educated, and knowledgeable they are. 'cuz really, I am doing so much of this on the fly.
Admittedly, Clio's comment about "Peter" and "sexy" in the same sentence almost made me spew the afternoon coffee all over the laptop as this veers perilously close to my dreaded visual bugaboo. (Yeah, I know, hypocrisy much given M of the M, but just because I write it doesn't mean I visualize it). Which, incidentally, Ben Barnes as Caspian in the tight pants is having a similar sort of tunnel vision effect. I found on the second viewing of the film I was much happier if I just focused on him and his wardrobe. And THEN I went looking for vid of him in Dorian Gray and some new Irish music band movie about the group that is not U2. I'm so ashamed.
I'm also procrastinating.

And good on ya for the running: 6 miles at a stretch is great! Right now I'm only doing 3, and it's time to get back to the climbing more regularly.
