So, if you have not heard, Ramandu's daughter has been given a name for the upcoming Dawn Treader release.  She who previously was known only as pretty blond in transparent  gown, womb of the realm, bearer of Rilian, dead by Green Snake, and, depending on who you ship, the Love of Caspian's life or Caspian's Big Rebound, is to be named Liliandil.

Now, being ever so old, I've had my childhood destroyed by many a film adaptation and had my little fandoms Joss'd all over the place.  I've never, ever recovered from what PJ did to Faramir and JK Rowling sank my ship.  Errr, right.  Sarcasm off.  I love fandom, I love fandom angst and fandom wank, and it's all just so much FUN.  I LOVE it all.  The snark is strong with this one. 

So, Liliandil...  here in the US, we see lots of prescription drug promotion directed to consumers -- we have a constitutional right in the US to receive prescription drug advertising about toe fungus treaments, SSRIs, and yes, erectile dysfunction.  He decided it was time to have the Viagra talk  and my personal favorite, Viva Viagra

Now, most drugs have a brand name and generic name, like Motrin (ibuprofen) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Viagra (sidenafil citrate) or Levitra (vardenafil HCl).  You see where I'm going with this?

We have your basic Suspian (Susan/Caspian), Lucian (Lucy/Caspian) etc.  What is Liliandil/Caspian?  Well, the NFFRS came up with two:

**Cilandil

I so want to like this name, because apparently Douglas Gresham invented it ... but really. Really? That's the best they could come up with?

Needless to say, I am NOT changing Her name in my fanfic to match the movie now.

Cilandil sounds to me like a spice. A new blend, combining cilantro and dill? Coming soon to a greenhouse near you!

OMG!!!! We have the same rules Down Under re generic and brand names, but I never thought about going here. Maybe it's because our advertising rules don't permit the pharma product to be marketed by name - instead we get a small amount of fairly euphemistic advertising suggesting that you see your doctor for treatments for smoking/gastric reflux/erectile dysfunction/insert complaint of choice here (usually with a website reference that's sponsored by the pharma company concerned). This is absolutely brilliant, and sadly yes, I can just picture the style of thing (pauses to gouge own eyes : ). I have no idea which genii (geniuses?) came up with these names, but I salute them, and you rth, for the brilliant ad campaign idea (are you sure you're in the right profession? Seems like you could moonlight brilliantly as an ad exec, coming up with smarmy pharma campaigns : )

Well, I went there because, heh, that's what I do and cilandil sounds very much like the drug class to which those ED products belong. And I would be a terrible ad exec as my brain is hardwired to say "No, you can't do that/say that/," "I don't care if you have happy customers, the plural of anecdote is not data," and "do you have data to support that?" I have a big NO stamp on my desk, in fact. I am an ad exec's worse nightmare.

Also, my brain has been in the gutter anyway as I work on the final chapter of TQSiT and the snippets of part 3 as teaser. YEAH! Everyone is (more or less) of age! I can finally GO THERE. Moreover, a child has been in the "family life" class at school which has led to some interesting dinner time conversations, from "why are boys so icky?" and "the movie had only diagrams, it didn't actually show people having sex," and "the movie said boys have wet dreams, do girls get them too?" errr. yeah. Really, information is a good thing. Really. I keep telling myself this.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that one (not). If I'm fortunate, I've got got maybe 2 years before we have to have that discussion. And I don't know about yours, but mine is always full of questions. Yep, can't wait....

Do you know, now VotDT movie and ED commercials will be forever linked in my mind. I can just see it- me sitting with friends in a dark theatre, dying of laughter when Ramandu's daughter shows up and whispering "Cilandil... ED" under my breath for the duration. Oh, rth, what have you done...

I was being sarcastic about Rowling sinking my ship and was actually referring to all the fandom wank when Harry and Hermione did not hook up, and when Remus did not end up as Sirius' lover. I'm pretty traditional in my ships insofar as canon is concerned, but I'll read just about anything if it's well written.
