Three Sentence Ficathon 2022 Part 2

And if you're asking, hey is just me, or did this get enormous really fast? Why yes, yes it did. Last year, it took us ten days before I opened a new post. This year, it took us about 5.5 days to get there. So, by all means, go back and fill in Post 1 and post new prompts here!

Also woops, in an indication of how busy I've been with other things, I neglected to post that for a third year in a row the awesome

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first. I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.

First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite at bit after about 2 weeks and especially once we open a new post because this one is approaching 4,500 comments.
Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.

But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?
No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

Here's my attempt at a text box that might go horribly awry.

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 13, 2022. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long. (There were a bunch of new posts to the 2021 3SF this week!)

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present (and much more). I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment, protect yourself, and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

"Arthurian sorceress reversed wordplay, with love for acceptable mark," Percy read. He liked it better when Bill or Charlie were there to help him with the Daily Prophet's cryptics; the twins just tended to spill breakfast on them.

It fit perfectly. Maybe his baby brother was smarter than he let on.

Now and then Rodimus speaks and the words aren't quite his own, though putting the voice print through an auditory analysis program would reveal no significant differences.

Now and then Rodimus moves, thinks, reacts in ways that he was never trained for, but that the ancient veterans of Cybertron's many wars might have found hauntingly familiar.

Now and then Rodimus dreams of an overcrowded spark chamber, eons and eons of Primes taking up all the space where Hot Rod used to dwell, shouting him down, forcing him out.

this is good and sad. i love how with each sentence Prime's influence is felt a little more strongly, even though it's still not *that* obvious to an outsider. thank you!

All the tourists had earplugs in, anyway, so it didn’t seem to matter that she’d lost her voice. She made eye contact with one of the women, and made a vulgar gesture. The woman’s eyes widened, and quickly started stripping to jump into the water.

Oh, poor drunk Ed! All his thoughts go so bitter and dark - I feel so bad for him, left alone with the spins.

I'd been an overhead observer to the Autobots' trials and tribulations for so long that it honestly slipped my mind, as it seemed to have slipped Bumblebee's; no one even so much as gestured to me when Optimus Prime joined up with the rest, and when I transmitted my tactical directions through Teletraan-X's interface, Optimus Prime followed them without a whisper of protest.

Which was why I was as surprised as he was when Optimus Prime glanced up casually, did an absolutely cinematic doubletake, and demanded, "How long has THAT been up there?"

"Uhh... a while?" Bumblebee admitted sheepishly, and Optimus covered his optics and muttered an apology to me, which I assured him wasn't necessary; I still didn't fully know what was going on, but it seemed like - to say the least - he had a lot on his mind.

(i may revisit this, the TF:BG self-insert is practically canon so it feels like cheating >_>)

Zidane was the lucky one, the chosen, the favorite. The foolish boy still didn't know, whether through ignorance or no, what the main difference between them was. Kuja remembered the gurgling infant entrusted to his care, and the youth before him was a stranger, but the divide between them went back before Zidane was ever created. Kuja keenly remembered taking that which was not his by birth like a furtive thief.

Zidane never knew what it was like to live without a soul: Kuja did.

Area necromancer can have a little bit of crime… as a treat. He hasn't even caused any zombie apocalypses lately!

"What are you pouting about, Police Girl?" the low, rumbling voice whispers out of the shadows around Seras and she almost wishes she had jumped or lashed out at it, instead of just taking it in stride - no, she hadn't known her master was there, but he's pulled this trick with her too many times.

"I. . ." Seras sighed, tracing her fingers up the wall just shy of the heavy blackout curtains and shaking her head. "I miss the sunshine," she admitted in a quiet voice, "I wish I. . ."

"So go out." Alucard said, and Seras frowned, muttering unhappily. "So go out instead of sulking, Police Girl." He yawned audibly. "Enjoy your exhaustion; I am going to sleep."

". . .wait, are you fucking with me?" Seras asked, looking up at him, only a little surprised to find him actually physically present . . . and suddenly grinning at her; she leaned back warily. "I thought. . ."

"Don't go far," Alucard warned, then shrugged, more fluidly than anything solid should be able to, "you will be weaker in the sunlight . . . in the day at all; you bear my blood, however; unlike weaker vampires, you can walk in the sun if you choose."

Seras bit her lip, looking up at him hopefully. Alucard melted into the shadows again without any further explanation . . . and the curtains in front of Seras slid open, revealing the first purple-pink glow of dawn, the sunlight falling through the thick glass on her and . . . Seras' grin was interrupted by a yawn, and she wavered a bit on her feet, but the sun only felt warm and welcoming, just as she remembered after long night patrols.

In the end it took seventeen Yiga hanging on to each other's ankles to haul Master Kohga out of the pit. The strong, burly master of the Yiga Clan lay sprawled at the edge for a moment, panting and groaning, cursing the day he'd ever heard of that Link guy.

One of his Blademasters knelt by his side, fist to the ground in respect. "Master, say the word and every Yiga will dedicate their lives to avenging your honor."

Kogha pointed at the ceiling in a forestalling gesture. "Nope! Nope. First things first - bring me a banana. Bring me a bunch of bananas. Matter of fact, bananas for everybody, today has been a terrible day and terrible days call for bananas. Then we clear out of this dusty old place, find another hideout, regroup, and then we can talk about the revenge thing."

Classical records of Sirens (Homo sapiens sirenia) often depict these peoples as having preternatural knowledge or, as in some erotic depictions, seductive allure. Many stories and paintings from antiquity to even the 1900s depict Sirens both beguiling and wise, with their musical temptations generally about desired knowledge; premonitions; advice; locations of fertile land, water, or other resources, even treasure; and a particular subgenre of lonesome sailors sharing stories of Sirens who merely offered company, comfort, and carnal delights.

As the internet age grew, and banner advertisements gained the colloquial name of "sirens", these peoples have likewise tailored their songs to a modern audience. Lottery numbers, the last words of a deceased loved one, a lost recipe, even technological know-how are amongst many recorded offerings found in recent sirensong.

While the telepathic abilities of Sirens have been well known for decades, such forewarning has only reduced the number of Siren victims slightly. Knowing a person's dearest desire, along with the Sirens' rhetorical skill and mild precognition, make for a deadly combination difficult for most Humans to resist. As such, the community continues to advocate for safety measures, such as earplugs for the hearing, wherever Siren populations congregate. Local Humans should be discouraged from seeking out Sirens during singing, but rather barter for their knowledge with other desired trade goods.

"Ainosuke-sama, your suit has been delivered from the usual tailor." Tadashi reported, smoothing out the sleeve and checking the cuff as he spotted a loose thread; it was a scrap from the garment bag, however, the suit itself unmarred.

"Excellent," Ainosuke-sama said, and Tadashi smiled, "and the other . . . suit?"

"Already waiting for your outing this evening, Ainosuke-sama." Tadashi confirmed, moving over and absently straightening the domino mask where it rested atop the neatly-folded jacket, newly replaced after the last night at S had left the prior one scuffed and snagged.

This is so good and sad and bitter. I feel like there's a lot of love and resentment between these two characters, and it's hard for Kuja to tell the difference between the two feelings because they're so tightly bound. Thank you very much!

A hush falls over Martinaise at 2AM: the background sound of machinery lessened, people stumbled to bed at last, animals gone quiet, and the rain only creates a muffling blanket that makes even the sea's waves feel more distant. At 2AM time seems eternal, but it isn't really, and the dreams can't be avoided any longer, so finally Harry walks slowly back to the shack and while he is no stranger to 2AM, the absence of alcohol and speed buzzing through his veins is a companion he's still getting acquainted with.

When he awakes he goes out to face the world again and as always now Kim is waiting for him outside and for just a moment that hushed time of 2AM seems suspended between them before Kim greets him with what's now become the traditional good morning (does less than a week make for a tradition? it's a kind thought) and the world comes back in all its noise and colour.

I'm glad all those feelings came through bc Damn kuja is a very very bitter person, but when I think about the backstorys and the holes in them... i imagine kuja was the one who raised zidane as an infant and there was a real love there once, which makes the subsequent hatred all the more brutal for it. When Kuja was told Zidane would be his replacement, he decided to resolve that emotional conflict by hating his brother instead, thus the attempted infanticide.

So, its less they're entwined than theres a little kernel from the past buried under a tree. Zidane still thinks he can grow something from it, Kuja is more cynical. But! its still There, and I like poking at it. It's more delicious for being bitter.

that canon line comes up a grand total of Once and then never again and ive been obsessing over what it means for over two decades.
