Three Sentence Ficathon

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS. PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS HERE.

You can go ahead and continue to respond to prompts and comment on them here but please don't post any new prompts .

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

UPDATE 1 HERE- 2 Feb

UPDATE 2 HERE 6 Feb

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
T
his is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth

No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?

Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?

Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might manage it. Or we can just cross-post. If you create one, I'll try to post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?

Until February 29, 2020. But the entry stays open permanently.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It wasn't an issue the last 3 times I ran this. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present.  I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

Star Wars, Rey

"I hated it," Rey admits, only because if she didn't, she'd be shouting or crying or asking things she's desperately afraid to ask, "not just because of the heat and the sand, but because of-of--of just how alone I was."

The Other Rey sits, remembering dark shadows, ever-present mists, harrowing training, and the feeling of fingers creeping into her mind to tear it at the seams, and whispers "I wish I had been."

Rey blinks and asks "lonely?"

"Alone."

Dick had never given much thought to his alternate selves before meeting them, but here he was, among them, every touch as strange as it was familiar. Some of them—him?—were good, some were bad, but every one of them seemed to want him. After all, he was the Original.

The Magicians, TV Quentin vs. book Quentin

"Your hair's white," the other Quentin said. "How old are you, anyway?" He reached out to poke at it, because of course he did, which meant Quentin was already in the act of smacking his hand away. His other self looked hurt and slightly petulant.

"Not that much older than you," he said resentfully, though in truth the other Quentin was definitely himself at some earlier point, younger and twitchier and very ... well ... him. Seeing himself from the outside was bringing back Quentin's old self-loathing in a very unpleasant way; he kept wanting to tell himself to stand up straight and brush his hair out of his eyes and stop doing that thing with his hands for God's sake.

Also, Quentin really felt as if he should look taller. Maybe everyone looked shorter from the outside.

as though life were not elsewhere [Overwatch | Moira O'Deorain]

Siebren is brilliant and more than a little cracked in the head, which is fine as far as Moira's concerned—he's the best conversationalist in Talon when he's all there, and she's rarely around when he isn't—but as she's observing his training one afternoon, marveling at the full extent of his powers, the klaxons go off just before she's ripped bodily out of her seat and it's…
She's been dragged to the bottom of an ocean of liquid nitrogen faster than she can make sense of, faster than anything should be able to move;
the world is black around her until she's shoved face first up into a force cold enough to be burning;
she's looking into the Gibraltar aboveground R&D labs, the ones built for the world to marvel at fifteen meters above her Blackwatch lab sequestered in the tunnels;
there's sunlight streaming in through the windows, a lazy breeze trailing through the flowering branches outside, the sun's sweet warmth almost tangible through the double-paned glass and constant AC;
she, herself, is there;
she is laughing——laughing?——as she motions for a smiling Angela Ziegler to look down through her microscope,
as she waves a sheaf of papers held in her perfect right hand at a Gabriel Reyes who is whole and hale and amused at her silent words,
as lab techs look on and talk and work and she is at the center of it, somehow, she is there——
Moira comes back collapsed and gasping on the floor, panting so hard she can't breathe while Siebren's trembling voice booms over all the shouting and sirens, and she's not in that sea of ice anymore but she feels the coldness, still, driven in like a stake between her aching lungs.

[title is from The World to Come, a short story by Jim Shepard. anyone familiar with the Watchpoint: Gibraltar map may be interested to know that there were a network of tunnels dug into the Rock of Gibraltar during WWII by British and Canadian soldiers that were large enough to house a "power station, water supply, and hospital."]
