Three Sentence Ficathon

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS. PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS HERE.

You can go ahead and continue to respond to prompts and comment on them here but please don't post any new prompts .

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

UPDATE 1 HERE- 2 Feb

UPDATE 2 HERE 6 Feb

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
T
his is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth

No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?

Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?

Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might manage it. Or we can just cross-post. If you create one, I'll try to post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?

Until February 29, 2020. But the entry stays open permanently.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It wasn't an issue the last 3 times I ran this. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present.  I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

Narnia, any, planting seeds in a garden you never get to see

Narnia - Susan

[personal profile] ladybrooke 2020-02-04 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Susan thinks afterwards that she knew in the back of her mind this was the end. She knew when she planted those last seeds that she would not see them grow, would not return to see them flower, would never be allowed to see her garden again.

But there is a certain amount of pleasure in knowing that no matter how she is barred, her garden remains a mark of her presence to all who care to look.

I love that you have Susan feeling at peace with this - it's a more carthartic version of the orchards they were planting before they left and then saw again in Prince Caspian.

Thank you! I really wanted Susan to be at peace. Those orchards always upset me.

Their legacies remain not just as some trinkets--a sword, a horn, a misplaced chess piece--or as legends, but as things they never really would have considered. Susan's favorite courtly hairstyle is still called The Queen's Knot and one of the Telmarine ladies tried to get haughty about hearing such an "old fashioned" hairstyle before realized she was talking to it's inventor and quickly shut her gob. There is a flower still called Lucy's Laugh that the royal gardener cultivated in her honor for her sixteenth birthday.

The greatest of their legacies, however, is the Pevensie's House, now called the Peven's Way House, the oldest orphanage in Narnia that Edmund founded one year before they vanished.

Sometimes, you may never get to see the seeds you planted grow, but sometimes, you just might.

Aww, thank you! I saw there was a more literal take on the prompt, but then I started singing the song to myself and I couldn't resist doing one that went back to the original context.

Oh I love this, especially because it's so true to how history works. People give names to and create mundane things that remain even after the etymology has been forgotten. and I love the tie in to Prince Caspian at the end.

I imagined this taking place in that very brief period we see in the Prince Caspian movie where the Pevensies are hanging out with Aslan and Caspian in a castle before they have to leave. Caspian probably wanders around for ages afterward, wondering what else is named after them.

And of course being sleep deprived...I failed to make the immediate connection between Edmund's orphanage and Eliza's orphanage. Mushy brain moment there...

Tbf, my first thought hadn't be "oh, yeah, Edmund should open an orphanage like Eliza" it was "Edmund was a young boy, ripped from his parents due to war, who grew up to never want other children to feel like he did, so he would want them to be looked after" followed by "but it needs to end up being called Peven's Way House, because puns". (My dumb brain was thinking 'halfway house' and only managed half the joke. I should go to bed.) I only remembered Eliza's orphanage just before I hit the reply button and had myself a giggle about it.

So, like, don't feel bad--it was half accidental connection anyway.

Susan remembers this orchard. They cut the ribbon at its gate about two months before they left (before they were kicked out) when none of these trees were higher than her hip, and she often wondered how they were doing. She never really expected to see them again and certainly didn’t expect to see them tower so high above her, so her heart is flooded with harsh shade.
