Three Sentence Ficathon

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS. PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS HERE.

You can go ahead and continue to respond to prompts and comment on them here but please don't post any new prompts .

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

UPDATE 1 HERE- 2 Feb

UPDATE 2 HERE 6 Feb

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
T
his is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth

No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?

Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?

Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might manage it. Or we can just cross-post. If you create one, I'll try to post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?

Until February 29, 2020. But the entry stays open permanently.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It wasn't an issue the last 3 times I ran this. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present.  I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

Any, any, when I left my home/ when I left my throne

"I left my home and the throne I was born to for another, and it was not only for political gain but for love I went. I left my home and my throne yet again at the Empire's behest, and I lost everything in the doing. And now I'm asked to leave once more: for love, for loss, potentially forfeiting anything left to me that I hold dear, and all I can say is--yes. "

Narnia, Edmund

It's arguable who takes their unintentional exit from Narnia hardest, but it's actually Edmund who regrets the hunt the most. He was the reason they were out on hunt in the first place--maybe Lucy mentioned the rumor of the White Stag being near first, maybe it was Peter who cajoled them into going, but it was all for his benefit.

Now all he can do is sit and stare down at the engagement ring that somehow stayed in his pocket when he fell out of the wardrobe, think of the one he left in a home far from reach, and try not to vomit from his knotting stomach once more.

We were robbed of prime angst of the Pevensie kids, I swear. So, I'm making up for it, apparently.

Zuko paused, looking back at the palace, then closed his eyes and shook his head firmly. He had finally found his destiny - decided on it, for himself, as his Uncle had always tried to guide him towards, and. . .

If he never returned - to his home, to his throne - then . . . Zuko only hoped that he had succeeded in helping to bring down the cruel empire his father had built.

It's easy to miss something that was never yours, if you think it should be if you think you earned it; Taryn had missed safety, and me, I'd missed power - concepts close enough you could dress one up to look like the other - and now I missed the crown that been promised to me. It didn't matter if Cardan had only meant it as bait and I was never supposed to reign, or that I'd never known I wanted it until it was offered to me; it had been stolen from within my grasp at the same moment as I was cast out.

From the room Vivienne called mine, I couldn't have told you where exile for daring to think Arcadia my home finished, and exile for the audacity to become their queen began.

Aaaahhh your Jude voice is so good. I love her recognition here that power and safety are similar desires after all.

Once a Queen (The Darkangel Trilogy)

Syllva left Avaric because she no longer felt worthy to rule and guide her husband's people, the people who would one day have looked to her lost son. And so, of course, when she returned to Isternes, her own people made her Lady once again, heaped upon her all the duty and trust that she had fled yet which now awaited her, changed yet not changed at all, half a world away.

"You have been Lady while I was gone," she said to her sister Eryka. "Can you not continue while I grieve?"

"I can and I will for a year and a day," Eryka said, "but then I must away across the Sea of Dust in my turn, to reweave what lines of talk and trade I can despite the withering of the world." She knelt to embrace Syllva, her green eyes bright both with tears and with the wild sea-yearning that caught some folk of Isternes as fish hooked on a line.

"Then I will make a year be enough," Syllva said.

"You are always enough," Eryka said, and kissed her sister's brow. "Let Isternes remind you, and help you build your life anew."

And so they did.

The Silmarillion - Finwë, Finarfin

[personal profile] ladybrooke 2020-02-09 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
In this, as in all things, Finarfin is the least like their father of all his siblings.

Finwë left his throne and most of his people to keep the son who meant the most to him; Finwë had died because of it, but by all accounts had considered himself at home wherever his beloved eldest son was.

Finarfin leaves his home on the beaches of Alqualondë to take a crown and a throne he ran away from at the age forty-nine; Finarfin lives and rules in the shadow of a city that is empty of his loved ones.
