Three Sentence Ficathon

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS. PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS HERE.

You can go ahead and continue to respond to prompts and comment on them here but please don't post any new prompts .

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

UPDATE 1 HERE- 2 Feb

UPDATE 2 HERE 6 Feb

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
T
his is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth

No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?

Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?

Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might manage it. Or we can just cross-post. If you create one, I'll try to post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?

Until February 29, 2020. But the entry stays open permanently.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It wasn't an issue the last 3 times I ran this. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present.  I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

Persephone waved away the shade that had led her here, then pushed on alone, winding between stark, cold pillars until broad, but bowed shoulders came into view. She hid a frown and went to her husband, wrapping herself around him and humming softly into his ear, murmuring soft nothings and reminders that she was here, at his side, whatever else came, until he was ready to tell her what had happened while he was on Olympus, alone.

Stroking his hair and holding him close, Persephone swallowed her rage even as it sprouted into a powerful force; every year he wheedled her out of it before she returned above, but every year Persephone heard how the others - his brothers - jeered and sneered at her husband for his domain, for any hint of his kind heart, and one day . . . one day his coaxing and distractions would not stay her tongue or her fury.

I love how apparently the shades of the Underworld go to Persephone like "mom, you gotta fix this!" whenever Hades is sad. It's such a cute image. I also love that Persephone is going to be burning down Olympus if a few gods don't learn to shut their traps.

Surely there's nothing Mom Queen cannot make better! Seems quite likely . . . and Olympus might be better for the razing and rebuilding. >.>

Yesss, this is so tender and loving. I especially love Hades's attempts to quell her rage on his behalf - what a good dynamic.

Thank you! One day the rest of the pantheon are going to find out the Queen of the Underworld is scarier than her husband. Though they may not survive that lesson. ;)

Hades/Persephone+Zargeus--His actions speak louder than words

[personal profile] last_haven 2020-02-02 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hades is not a creature of mercy; spending the entirety of your life from infancy to early adulthood smashed literally cheek to cheek against your siblings because your father was a little nervous you might get handsy with his throne didn't inspire much sympathy for others.

But when the Spring Maiden walks into his halls, holding the shattered remains of her child, he can't ignore the sharp-as-glass-shards look in her eyes as she says "I will give you anything in return for my son."

He looks at the iron in her soul and hands her a pomegranate as he says "it shall be done."

Great character building, nonny. Love the first sentence and then the swift, effective change in tone.

Nothing like a good bit of emotional whiplash to set a scene.

Fill: Greek Mythology - Hades/Persephone - A story in snippets

[personal profile] tomakeanoffer 2020-02-03 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Persephone dreams and her heart aches in her slumber. She dreams of sunshine and bright skies, flowers rising up to meet her, of a world blooming at her feet.

She dreams of darkness, of the smell of ash and bone, of quiet halls and heavy whispers of the dead.

~

A girl wakes up in the middle of the night, confused and sad and longing for something she doesn't understand. She turns to look at the man sleeping next to her, touching his shoulder to maybe wake him.

"It's okay," he mumbles, opening one eye then the other, "It's going to be easier in the morning.

~

Yes, Hades abandoned the underworld, abandoned his kingdom and his life and his responsibilities. He hates it, all the chaos and loudness and vibrancy of everything outside the Underworld.

But Persephone never came home, lost in the world with no idea who she is or any idea of how to find her way back.

~

It's years later when she finds herself again, not the young human woman with the ghosts of memories that haunt her and a sweet but odd boyfriend. She finds herself to be a goddess, a queen, and someone who once again tried to be caged.

"Come," she says, looking to Hades with a smile nothing short of sunshine, "I think it's time to show some people how I've earned my name."

I may not know what happened to Persephone to make her forget, but I for one look forward to the glorious hell she's going to rain down on whoever's responsible.

Oo, lovely. And her sunshine smile and preparation to wreak destruction? Excellent.
