Three Sentence Ficathon

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS. PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS HERE.

You can go ahead and continue to respond to prompts and comment on them here but please don't post any new prompts .

Welcome to the Three Sentence Ficathon!

UPDATE 1 HERE- 2 Feb

UPDATE 2 HERE 6 Feb

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
T
his is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes. Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth

No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?

Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?

Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might manage it. Or we can just cross-post. If you create one, I'll try to post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?

Until February 29, 2020. But the entry stays open permanently.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought a lot about this. It wasn't an issue the last 3 times I ran this. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present.  I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.

Here, have some icons and banners and let me know if you've created your own!

Philippa was in the stable-yard when they came to her, watching the farrier work on the left hind of a great black destrier; she straightened, a blonde eyebrow raising, as Edith shoved her bound captive to his knees before the High Queen.

Blood from the man's gashed cheek dripped on the dust of the yard, and Philippa looked long at his rich (if disheveled) clothes and battered face before switching her deceptively placid gaze to her sister.

Edith knew it looked bad, but she couldn't stop the words from spilling out anyhow: "It wasn't my fault, he grabbed me from the left, you know how I am about that, and he didn't say who he was, and -- and -- and -- how was I to know he was the Narindan ambassador?"

This is such a perfect little moment, and I like that you made Peter a girl too. What a great detail about Edith getting jumpy when she's grabbed from the left. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for from the prompt, thank you!

Edith now owns some of my heart and Philippa is bidding fair to claim another piece.

I'd be more interested in whether the Narindan ambassador knew this was a Narnian Queen, though truthfully that's unimportant next to what (it sure sounds like) his actions toward her were…

A Grey Sky, a Bitter Stain

“Did it go well?” Susan asks with a smirk as her sister emerges from the fog, silver blade twirling idly in her hand.

“Well enough,” Ed says, blowing back that stubborn lock of black hair that would always fall in her eyes; pushing it back with her hand would risk smearing blood across her face, and Su does so hate that sight. “They expected you, but they got me.”

omg, omg, your ed is PERFECT! susan's smirk, "silver blade twirling idly in her hand" and yet she's careful not to smear blood on her face because she knows susan won't like it, and the casual confidence of that last line! ahhhh, i love this so much, thank you!

Thank you! I do so love an Ed who's totally competent but still a little bit awkward.

Pay It Forward (Chronicles of Narnia)

[personal profile] edenfalling 2020-02-02 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The end of a siege is bitter, filthy work, no matter how hard one tries to hold to honor and treat one's enemies with respect -- and Edith tries, both to stop Mary and Stephen from watching her with the shadow of old alienation behind their eyes, and to keep the soldiers under her command from needing to look back on their actions either with horror, or, worse, with rationalizations that will twist their hearts to stone as sure as Jadis once petrified their bodies.

She leads her company through the wreckage of the crude wooden fort, a torn strip of gold and scarlet surcoat wrapped around her face to filter out smoke and sparks from the fires, until she spots a spruce dryad in the colors of the White Army lying crumpled in the ashes; while her squire stands guard, Edith kneels to run her sword through the still-breathing ruin of the dryad's chest, then lifts the new-sprouted seedling from between her wooden ribs to carry away and plant in more auspicious soil.

Edith can't conjure miraculous redemption from before the dawn of time, but mercy, at least, is within her power; and so she grants it where she can.

I adore this! Edith is so conscious of the responsibility she has to her enemies and her siblings and her soldiers, and then she offers mercy! Aaaaah, I'm just squealing about how good she is, and the image of the seedling she carries away to "plant in more auspicious soil" is really lovely. Thank you so much!
