caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And the gypsy parts of her dream of a wagon, of sleeping under the stars (too many to count, but she wants to teach the kids how to find your way and how to read their secrets).

His name - her name now too - is the millstone around her neck, locking her behind iron bars, in smooth polished rooms, answering to "Mrs. Shelby" and putting up the pretense that she doesn't want to escape.

<3 <3 <3 My heart just grew three sizes, this is adorable. Pretty sure there are like 3 ways into Poe's heart, and the first is admiring his mother, lol. (Also, Poe/Rey! I love this little ship.)

"Ah. That one." Garak knew Julian loathed it. "It was getting old. I recycled it." He considered a small bite of his stew. "I have plenty of the fabric left. I can always make another."

"Oh, really?" Julian said brightly.

He might have fooled anyone else on the station, but Garak had made a careful study of the man. He chewed thoughtfully, then decided to be kind. "But I've grown weary of that particular shade of green."

They might have their differences in pranking styles, Wes preferring a longer, more intricate pay off, while Face enjoyed the immediate gratification.

They might even have had a prank war or two to determine the best style.

But they both agreed, NO ONE pranked THEIR squad and got away with it, without proper and complete annihilation.

There were few that either woman consented to be close with, fewer still that they could afford to let down their guards to be casual with.

But Josephine had a way of causing Leliana to let down her hair, relax, become the woman again behind the mask, the hand.

And Leliana was grateful there was someone who could do that for her still besides her far away beloved, and thus tried to make sure Josephine got those moments of casual intimacy she craved

I've never written in the Firefly fandom before but here's what happened next...

"Was it more about defending my honour or yours, Captain?" Inara asked, taking in the scene in her drawing room with amusement as the Captain swallowed a large glass of brandy before nodding his approval to the physician.

Malcolm took a deep breath and before preparing himself for the pain that was to come, replied, "I hadn't realized he was a client--" but the rest of his answer was cut off with a hiss and a disapproving glare at the other person in the room.

"Lady Inara thought it best to just remove it when you least expect it," Doctor Tam said as he dropped the bloodstained bullet into the empty wineglass, "and like most of her male acquaintances, I do as her ladyship bids me to."

Kratos has done this before, leading hundreds of blond children to sacrifice on the altar of Mithos's grief, and if anything about that was going to trouble him, it wouldn't be merely that he lied about it. Even now it's not deceiving Colette he regrets, but the youth standing beside her. I named you, he can't say, or you're going to lose her, or Anna would be proud of one of us, at least.

They are really, and it seems like a lot of his problems can also be put under the heading of lied to self that rest of family is as honourable as self or Uncle. (Ohhh yeah. Heck even Zuko was suspicious of his good luck in Azula's report to Ozai being in his favour.)

I hadn't thought about it that way, but I've actually written something similar to that conversation they need to have after this snippet, from another angle, in a short story before, haha. I guess it's a topic I can really see for them. For some reason. *coughs*

Nadia sees the melancholy in his smile. "They were happy with you, too, Asra," she says, certainty in every word. "What is in the present does not negate that."

His smile does not lose any of its ache, but something softer does join it. That is probably the best she can do for now.
