3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

***gargh I said "and they had" twice. The perils of writing that line first and then copy and pasting...

anyway...

There is a (Chinese) arthouse movie about seeing fates in tea leaves (and multiple personality disorder) though, and it is aptly named (what else) Green Tea.

Ah the "best" and "friends" put-together-to-make-a-heart necklaces. I had them once :D

Love (and hate) the idea that this was fate, that neither had a choice...the way she didn't fight it.

At first it is sitting outside on the fire escape in his apartment at night over the roar of engines and the indignation of New York taxi drivers, having sold enough Shirley Templars to ensure this month's rent.

Then it becomes a respite that is not his own, a sunset in Damascus, an evening between the sheets with an eager woman in Rome, or, rarer still, the howl of wind and wolf atop a great willow tree.

Desmond thinks he might like to have one of those for his own one day, but in the end, when he finally manages to reclaim it, it's only his hand sliding off a slab of stone and the world going black to the echo of a cruel god's laughter.

Tashbaan is hot (steaming) and close and tight, and Peter cannot help feeling more and more constricted (fighting to get out of his very skin), something he has never, ever felt in Narnia - not even in the midst of raging battle (because even there is a sort of freedom).

Even the simpering poetry and much-vaunted storytelling of this spiced (and perfumed, Oh, Aslan, the perfume is so cloying) place makes his chest tighten; he cannot relax against the oppressive pile of cushions all around him, and only barely manages to conceal the wince at the very next, "O the delight of my eyes..."

Peter glances at his siblings and as his eye catches Lucy's, he can suddenly breathe easier; she is smiling politely, a smirk gleaming in her eyes, and he realizes (conveniently setting aside the irony of the syrupy words) that she has always been and will always be his greatest delight.

The first sentence is Gaudy Night the third Lord Peter/Harriet Vane book, and the one we were reading last night on Twitter. Peter's been asking Harriet to marry him for five years, she returns to the peace of Oxford Academia, he pursues her there, she realizes eventually that he feels stifled, not snooty, in his life of privilege and class, and he respects her as a woman, and slowly, slowly they work things out.

The rest of it is Busman's Honeymoon, "a love story with detective interruptions," in which they run away for a honeymoon and discover a body in the cellar next day. Sigh.

tl;dr: Katy, you NEED to read Sayers, if only for the academic and language feels!

I don't know what's more heartbreaking, that "every creature ...waiting to see if he'll fall once more" or that Edmund internalises it and waits as well.

Wheee! That's the fun of 3SF, writing stuff that would never happen otherwise.

Sniffle. What Ruth said. He doesn't mind not being king, but he wishes she could be queen. That's dear.

I love that Lucy's ship is named the Gallant (:D), and that she is the one leading the charge in the naval battle, with the underlying implications that they're working as a team to achieve the ultimate goal of peace.

WOW! You described the oppressive atmosphere and senses of Tashbaan so vividly, and caught Peter's reaction so perfectly in character. And then the ending made me nod and smile and melt all at once. Gorgeous. These two are not written often enough.

She should have known that he would never have been true. He clearly hadn't known much about witches, and he had not yet met...HER, that dazzling display of goodness, the one she could never measure up to.

Angrily, she grabbed the apple, taking a full, luscious bite.

He retreats to Latin to mask the sting of feelings long denied—Latin, that timeworn, timeless tongue—and hesitant, she meets him there, slipping behind his defenses and drawing him out, piece by piece. Behind the foolish banter, behind the dazzling display of borrowed words, behind the French endearments and ancient Hebrew love poetry, there is only Peter: fumbling for words and shaking in his boots. But she is only Harriet, and it is enough.
