3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

OMG I have such a soft spot for those two and their relationship! Wrote fic about it and everything:)

After the coronation, Perseus turns to her with an expression of pure panic; he was raised to be useful in a fisherman's hut, her husband, and when he speaks, she already knows what to expect: "I--I don't know what to do now."

But unlike him, Andromeda was born the daughter of Cassiopeia of Aethiopia, who took the forgotten port of Joppa and turned it into a marvel that even the gods envied; who encouraged her sturdy ships and brave captains to explore every corner of the known world; who married an insignificant son of Egypt and transformed him into a king worthy to sit beside her.

"Fortunately for you," she says, smiling, "I do."

Thanks~ I kinda love the idea too, since the more I thought about it, the more I realized that they'd be a rather good fit for each other.

This is amazing, but it's really the last line that makes this. Absolutely chilling, with the idea of history repeating like that.

Ha yeah, I was kinda thinking of rthverse Eustace when I wrote that last line, with him just being so bewildered and he's just gotten used to viewing his cousin as a regular person (most of the time) and then suddenly WAM baby hedgehogs and his cousin's a high king again! :D

I always love the idea that the doors work both ways and I've wanted to write a story about Narnians falling into England only I've never gotten a chance until now!

You really should! Although, ha, I know what you mean about giant books. I've got one of the Hitchhiker's Guide series that's been begging me to open it up and finish!

Baby hedgehogs are just the ABSOLUTE CUTEST, right? :D

EDIT: Wait, hang on, you asked for more? LET ME OBLIGE:

The first memories Pokes can remember are of her mother putting her to sleep with tales of the legendary kings and queens of old - of their grand, white castle that stood guard at the edge of the sea, of their loyal knights who accompanied them on quests, of the great battles that protected the citizens from greedy kings and the most wicked of witches. She'd idolized the Four, had bullied her siblings into playing make-believe (Pokes was always the Gentle Queen), and had even created an epic story in which she joined the kings and queens on one of their adventures.

Now, she watched as a human who called himself the High King Peter (but he was much too young-looking!) comforted Mipsy as another boy (King Edmund, perhaps?) shifted awkwardly behind him; perhaps, Pokes thought, she was in over her head.

Many Are My Names

[personal profile] buttonloops 2013-03-20 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
WHEE THANK YOU

After a few hundred centuries in Valinor, Olorin ran out of pipeweed. Shortly after, he decided he'd had quite enough of rest and eternal bliss—he'd never thought he would miss being pestered with questions by small people, but it seemed he did—and he betook himself back to Middle Earth, where he soon found a decent position as resident mysterious old wizard to one Uthr Pendragon, who had tolerable pipeweed and a penchant for disguises. When he got sick of the questions, he contrived to have himself shut up in a rock and took a nap; in those days there was always a demand for mysterious old wizards and he had no trouble finding work when he came out.

This arrangement worked well for quite awhile, but then the age of rationalism came along and the demand for resident wizards (which had fallen in the days of Elizabeth—but the quality of pipeweed improved significantly at the same time, so he'd not troubled about it) absolutely plummeted to the point where he had to completely overhaul his appearance (he'd always enjoyed disguises, though the hawk nose tended to persist) and go in for mundane crime-solving—boring at times, but the mouse-colored dressing gown was close enough to familiar, the pipeweed was more plentiful than ever before, and Watson was absolutely superb at asking questions.

Born of a random dentist-office thought, and the crazy similarities only appeared when I really started writing. *g*

It's just one book, Chalice by Robin McKinley, and it's amazing in the way that most of Robin McKinley's books are amazing: even though most people would say nothing happens, the descriptions and the worldbuilding are just beautiful and mesmerizing.

And thanks!
