3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Don't Listen to a Word I Say

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tristan," she says suspiciously (right after they've gotten out of the carriage but right before it speeds off without them), "this is most certainly not the Market."

"No," he says, waving his arm to indicate the rather unimpressive scenery of dead trees and rocks around them, "but don't you recognize this spot - it's where we first met!" and she just knows his next words will be a variation on so we can make that trip the right way this time, won't it be romantic?

"Tristan," she says with a sigh, leaning against his shoulder and looking up with a secret smile to her sisters in the sky, "forgive me, but I'd rather just relive the end of that trip, if it's all the same," and it might have been, if he hadn't sent the carriage away; as it was, things turned out very differently from both their expectations (but that's another story altogether).

Thank you! It's indeed something I had fun imagining - although I couldn't decide which subjects they would teach. ;-)

Slight spoilers for a dance with dragons

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks at the blacked bones on the floor before her and wonders what Drogo would have done; sent the man off with an admonition to make more and stronger children, most likely. She had loved her sun-and-stars, but he had been a hard man, as a Khal must be.

Now, Dany begins to realize that there will be times when she must act as a Queen, not a Khalessi.

Re: I'd hang you from the nipples, but you'd shock the children

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
HEE oh god. Eleanor would, wouldn't she? And how much do I love that they were a gift from Louis? Forget the children, that poor man would have died of shock and shame!

(And of course, the bittersweet touch of "Eleanor and pain were old lovers," because yes.)

Re: A Crusade

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-19 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't know..the illicit first meeting in Paris when she was still married to his fellow monarch, the scandalous divorce, the galloping off to meet her on the road to Aquitaine before another man could kidnap and claim her, even the nasty rumors of her having an affair with his father...there's all kinds of great stuff early on, I think. And then there's the fact that they produced a son right off the bat, as if to say 'suck it, Louis!' Hee.

I am in love with how many historical and mythological prompts have come up this year, with their corresponding brilliant fills. It's been so much fun!

Yes, it's my favorite play ever. Those are such good lines (but then, they're all good...I'm partial to "Of course he's got a knife, we've all got knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians." myself). Funny how most of them are Eleanor lines!

"It's the anniversary of the day I met you," Tristan says idly one night as he and Yvaine watch her sisters in the sky above. "We should do something to mark the occasion."

"Of the day you kidnapped me? Tristan, you have got to start thinking of better romantic gestures."

(Okay, four sentences, but it didn't quite work with just three!)

Willow Rosenberg and the Sorting Ceremony (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Hogwarts AU)

[personal profile] tiny_white_hats 2013-03-19 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Willow's knees shook so hard she thought she might collapse with each step, and every pair of eyes in the room (from Buffy, the nice, blonde girl from behind her in line to Headmaster Giles, smiling kindly through his silver wire glasses) burnt into her as she approached Professor Maclay and the ragged hat (which looked big enough to swallow her head whole) she held as if it were a holy relic.

"You're a tricky one," the Sorting Hat whispered in Willow's ear, in a voice like a snake slipping through dry grass, once Professor Maclay had nestled it upon her head, "because you could go oh so many ways with that brain of yours, Miss Rosenberg."

Willow took a deep breath, exhaling it just as quickly, and she waited, the Sorting Hat slipping over her eyes and her face whitening so that she was nearly as pale as the Grey Lady, until the Hat cried, in a voice like doors creaking shut, "RAVENCLAW!"

Him turning to the Dark Side is just so depressing, so I always like stories where that didn't happen. :-)
