3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

MORE THE MUMMY PROMPTS YES!

[personal profile] betony 2013-03-19 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)

Going into it, Rick knew a life with the Carnahans would be rather less soothing than a retired ex-Legionnaire who's seen his fill of war might want; if it's not Jonathan pissing off the law, the criminal underworld, usually both at once, it's Evelyn stumbling across the one scroll in the entire country that sets off a centuries-old curse that brings on great calamity, the goddamn apocalypse, blah blah blah, and usually also means they have to put up Ardeth Bey for a few days until the fate of the world is no longer in danger.

It's just--when Evy tells him she's pregnant, Rick has a few months to imagine his kid as the only other sane influence in this family; admittedly, he grew up in a hellhole of an orphanage that he escaped as soon as humanly possible, but he has some faint impressions of normal children doing things like playing ball and skipping school and saying "Dada" a whole lot.

A year and a half later, though: "Ramesses," pronounces baby Alex with a look of great contentment when it comes time for his first word, and Rick abandons any hope for a normal life.

Well that's just absolutely perfect then, isn't it! I love that his wine (and by extension, himself) is going to sober her up from her grief ( because of course she drinks!) and also that he lets it be her choice. Brilliant!

Aw, I sort of wish he would too, even though that could never have turned out well in any way. Cassandra is so wild and sweet and full of life here, no wonder he won't let go of her hands.

(I think it's becoming my tradition to come up with a new crackship every time this ficathon comes around...last year it was the great Susan/Maglor crossover ship, this year it's these two. I'm always shocked anybody goes along with me!)

I miss him :o(

To be perfectly fair, "my wife is a crane and weaving her feathers into magic cloth" is probably not the first place one's mind is going to go, but yes, I agree absolutely that the real tragedy of it is that the narrator's not a particularly bad guy at all, but still handles the whole situation terribly.
...And I will also probably walk around all day humming these songs, oh well!

Very nice! I read this last night before climbing into bed and laughed out loud. I could see Tremaine tossing Ilias into the fray.

Bwah, yes, you should, I would love that. Have you seen the awesome Rick/Evie fills by [personal profile] metonomia and [personal profile] pretty_panthera few pages back? (Seriously, the motto of this ficathon should be: "If you prompt it, they will come [and write you the awesome fic of your heart.]")

Rick is not sure how this became his life! But he is OK with getting out there and shooting things anyway.

What, that isn't what you'd suspect right off?? I agree he couldn't have known that, but dude should have suspected something was up, really. Where did he think she was getting all that thread from?

They're good songs to have in your head - better than most, at least!

*Nods* Actually, I don't know, in my mind a large part of Cassandra's motivation here is because Creusa's fate sounds a lot better than what's in store for her. And yes, I'm so glad she came across this way, because I very much want her to have at least some moments of joy in her life before it all falls apart:(

Aw, thanks! They're an easy couple to write, I think, because they seem to have loved each other so much and not had many issues, unlike ninety percent of Greek mythology couples...

Yeah, Greek mythology is not really the place to look for happy fluffy couples, unless you're looking at Ariadne/Dionysus, Perseus/Andromeda, Iphis/Ianthe and Eros/Psyche. (Admittedly, I'm probably forgetting a few.)

She'd fallen asleep afterward, and his mind wouldn't let him do the same. He spent several hours watching her sleep; she alternated between a fetal position and a yearning one, and he wanted to laugh at how her subconscious outed her characteristics so thoroughly.

He didn't know where this was going, but he knew he couldn't stand himself if he didn't stick around to find out.

I used this list/scale to confirm my thoughts on how she sleeps. ... I always assume everyone is curious, so hey - the more info, the better, right?
