3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Well, that's certainly one way to end it! Here's another (which is also crack!fic, I believe):

Five hours later, Merlin finally finished his long explanation of Arthur's genealogy and the stories surrounding it.

"So, you're saying that I can trace my forbears back to some legendary Elves (I didn't even know Elves existed), some legendary Men, and thus, some legendary half-Elves, one of whom decided to live as a Man on some island that no longer exists, and then whose descendants fought evil too, like him and the rest of them, and that the Line of Lúthien will apparently never fail, and I'm descended from her and my sword is actually called Andúril and it belonged to yet another of these ancestors and then it got broken and was reforged and used yet again?"

"Yes, I believe you have the jist of it, though your summary could have been worded somewhat more elegantly."

Oh, and THANK YOU ALL so much for all the kind words!

I LOVE the amount of description you put in here, the way one can perfectly picture everything you're talking about. Well done! Thank you!

OMG HOW CAN THIS BE SO PERFECT IN SO FEW SENTENCES--of course Howl is blearily like, "uh, Calcifer can handle it" and of course, Sophie threatens to ruin his suits in retaliation, and of course it's all really because he's nervous about parenthood! I love this peek into them between adventures!

Ooh, I love this! It's sad, yet beautiful, and is from a different perspective than I had originally had in mind, yet works so well for it. Thank you!

YES. It always struck me that Janet, considering she's from some sort of late-twentieth-century analogue of our world, would eventually run across the differing standards for women in Chrestomanci's world and--being Janet, immediately set out to do something about it! And the shout-out to Gwendolen, how perfect! ♥

Narnia, Susan, This is a gift/it comes with a price

She stood astride her brother, boots muddied--and bloodied--to her knees, soaked through the fine chain and soft leather by the rain that hammered from the unrelenting sky. In this weather, bows were useless, and she had set hers aside; instead she held a sword, the hilt too big for her small hands and the weight almost too much for her arms.

She parried, ducked, thrust, and swung, never moving her feet; despite the overcast sky, the golden lions-head pommel glimmered in the light, and she dealt death with every gasping breath.

"What do you think about Cinderella?" she asks, pulling a pale blue dress off the rack and turning around to show it to him.

"Well," he gives the gown a thorough once-over with a critical eye, from the puffy sleeves of chiffon to the billowy skirts of satin and crinoline, "it matches your eyes and hair but remember what happened that Halloween two years ago?"

There was a pause and as she returns the costume to the rack, she says, "Joan of Arc it is then."

I love Janet and Gwendolen sfm. Yes, even Gwendolen, as horrible as she is. I think Janet is going to tear down that glass ceiling and be fabulous doing it.

Oh YES! Yes! Marvelous! You have me practically in tears, I'm laughing so hard right now. And I agree with Arthur about Nostril (although I think it was actually called Narsil-- still a terrible name, though).

Even as a child in Dardania, Aeneas had heard of his (fortunately, his father grumbles whenever the tales of her latest tantrum arrive) very, very distant cousin Cassandra, so often that he could picture her wild dark hair and the angry curl of her mouth without ever seeing her, and now, seated at Priam's own table at the wedding feast of Hektor and the Princess of Thebe, he cannot be blamed for his curious looks in her direction.

As he watches, Cassandra twists away from the tight grip of her unsmiling brother Deiphobus and dances to the groom's side, keeping her face serene as Hektor sneaks her extra sweetmeats; when she meets Aeneas's gaze, her eyes sparkle with the silent shared joke.

Aeneas swallows and quickly reconsiders his preconceptions about the Princess of Troy.

Cal Leandros Series, Ishiah/Robin

[personal profile] tanyart 2013-03-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ishiah’s hands are cold when he finishes taping the gauze pad over Robin’s wound.

“I know I shouldn’t have,“ he begins, brow furrowing, “I was being selfish, and I shouldn’t have taken you from Cal and Niko, and I’m sorry, but-”

Robin’s spine shivers from the apology – he hates them – but he knows if Ishiah finishes that sentence, something will escape from him, something unfamiliar and terrifying, so he surges upwards from his bed and shuts Ishiah up with a simple kiss – not even on the lips, only on the temple, crooked and off to the side – because he’s not ready for this, and when it all comes down to it, Robin is a coward.

"Calvin, whatever are you doing with Suzie's rabbit and that old cardboard box?" his mother asked, blinking and looking again.

Standing beside the transmogrifier, Hobbes tapped Mr Bun's foot, crossed Mr Bun's arms and stared furiously at Calvin past his mother legs.

"Uh," Calvin said.

Oh, I love this--Odysseus's rationale for letting her go, Hecuba's defiant dignity, come what may, and the fact that she walks (walks, not runs) away from the dire fate she could explain as a slave --and also, that last phrase: all he wants is peaceful sailing. Yeah, good luck with that, buddy.
