3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Natasha knew his skin would be sensitive but she couldn't stop her hand from resting lightly on Bruce's shoulder, a reminder that she was nearby if he needed her. He turned his head, placing the tiniest of kisses on her knuckles as if to let her know she was welcome to stay. As she settled in next to him on the couch, she assessed the damage (that which was seen and that which was assumed) and decided that this mission hadn't been a success but it hadn't been a bust, either.

*cries* at how bittersweet this is.

(You did this for me, didn't you? Well, even if you didn't, I shall oblige you. Olórin is Merlin again, because it works so well. And no, I will not call him Gandalf, because where's the fun in that?)

The day after he pulled Excalibur from its stone, Merlin took him aside, "There is another name for that blade, one which no one now remembers; it was once called Andúril, young heir of Isildur."

"Who is Isildur? I thought my father was Uther?"

(I want to write MORE! Three sentences isn't enough!)

Olórin taps him on his shoulder.

"Pallando, why are you wearing blue?"

"It's so much more interesting than grey, that's why."

"What would you have been," she said (always with that scythe of a smile), "if it hadn't been for me?"

Gaius thought about it--for the first time, honestly thought about it: endless lines of code, defense software, databases; that sleek apartment, all glass; complicated coffee orders, cocktails with the sweat sliding down the stems--never far enough from the sick stench of sweet hay, his entire existence a practice in going through the motions.

"A machine," he told her; the most basic command of any program was always run.

Ashley Williams didn't trust aliens, and she never let Garrus get behind her.

Garrus's first bullet ricocheted from the shield of the geth in front of them, flew down the corridor back over the turian's head and dropped the husk shambling up behind Williams in its tracks.

"Relax, Williams," he called, "If I wanted to shoot you, I would have done it by now."

Perfect! I love that first sentence, Hades' whole attitude about this relationship, and how she doesn't need to answer him in words.

It seems like a lifetime ago when she'd been onboard the TARDIS instead of just getting updates about where the Doctor was next but Martha doesn't care about the past. There are times when she looks at Mickey, his eyes intense with purpose, and she realizes that she has everything she's ever wanted. It sounds sappy (she'll never say it out loud) but he is her white knight and she is his.

The first time Titania ventures into the mortal world, poets still pipe of love; lads and lasses dream of her in troubled sleep; lords and ladies still applaud when she takes her bow.

I have time, she thinks.

The second time Titania ventures into the modern world, Puck's gone and got himself a Corvette.

The Silmarillion/Narnia, Susan & Maglor

“I used to have a brother with eyes blue as the sea,” Susan says, as the waves come in closer and closer to where they sit in the sands.

“Mine all had eyes like the sea in a storm,” Maglor says, his own closed as if to see in memory, a faint smile on his lips.

Sometimes she thinks she can see these brothers he speaks of in his face, or in his gestures, a certain turn of phrase; she wonders if he ever senses Peter in her boldness, or Edmund in her sly jokes, Lucy in her laughter, and she prays it's so, though she's too afraid to ask, too afraid no one sees them now but her, alone in the depths of her memories.

There are rituals that must be followed after every game; some are with teammates but there are those that keep them rock steady even with the blood pounding in their ears as they struggle to come down from the high of playing and, more importantly, winning. This time is no exception and Jules pushes Jess into the corner of the deserted closet that is always off limits after a game. She doesn't care that there are sweaty clothes in the way, only that she can find skin to touch and mark with her teeth.

"Perhaps now that the whole silly business of Mr Churchill is behind us, we might become friends," Emma said, feeling that she had grown up immeasurably in the last few months.

"I have found that very nearly anything might be achieved, if one has the fortitude to apply hard work, understanding, and patience," said Jane, with a kind smile.

Growing up was overrated, Emma decided.

I love writing these, because I just have so many genius moments! The Choice of Lúthien bit was one of them, and honestly, that is now permanently part of my headcanon, as is the Heir of Isildur thing.
Here's more, as a present back for all these prompts! (none of them lost their memory)

Later, after Merriman left and the adrenaline of battle wore off, those of the Six who remained sat in a circle, though not a Circle, on the crest of one of the beautiful Welsh hills. The Drews were silent, Jane fondling the blue translucent stone Bran had given her, but the albino boy turned to Will and asked about something that had aroused his curiosity, "Why did Merriman call the Pridwen Vingilot?"

The Watchman answered with a smile, "I think it is time to sing you the Lays of Beleriand, as my master Merriman did for your father after his first great battle to keep the ancient traditions alive."

(As I write this, the only thing I can think is 'Merlin could sing?' but then I think 'Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy. Of course he could sing.')
...And yes, I really did do that with the Lays of Beleriand

They call it a reunion but it's more like ten years of torturous wait in return for bad wine and cold finger food while trying to make small talk with people who were never friends in the first place, but Janis goes through it for one glance so that she can put away the dreams that have been haunting her since turning twenty-five, when she realized a few truths about things she'd been hiding from herself. Regina, never one to follow the rules, walks across the room instead of staying with the girls she once called friends. "I know this might be a mistake but I've been waiting ten years to be able to ask you to dance."

With some people, memories get in the way. Faces are superimposed where they don't belong and no amount of blinking will make them go away. When they are together, no matter whose room they've snuck into, there is a sense of home that is nowhere else and all three of them cling to those moments of peace to keep them going through the rest of the hours of the day.

"Let's get this done," Eliot growls as he puts in his ear comm into place. If there was anyone else in the room, they might have missed the tiny things he does now, rituals that put him into a good place for fighting. A touch on Parker's shoulder or the look he gives Alec don't go undetected by the other two, their own rituals already completed.

"You must allow Fanny the chance to grow," said Margaret; "she benefits from guidance." Her voice was gentle, but her expression forthright, as easy to interpret as a map.

Mr Thornton benefited from guidance as well, but he supposed it perhaps too forward to suggest he took pleasure in it also.

To say that she left regrets behind was like saying that rain was wet. Wishes clustered in her mind as the nanites clustered in her blood stream, both of them pressing in on her in unspeakable ways. "Be safe," she whispered to the city, hoping it passed along her words to the rest of the people she called friends.
