What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first. I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.

First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite at bit after about 2 weeks and especially once we open a new post because this one is approaching 4,500 comments.
Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.

But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?
No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 13, 2022. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long. (There were a bunch of new posts to the 2021 3SF this week!)

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present (and much more). I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment, protect yourself, and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

The best thing--really, the only thing--that could be said about a curse-gone-wrong at one of her sisters' last elaborate parties was that it really did accustom one to accept anything; why, Beauty had even been able to see the ruination of her father's fleet as a reason to seek out the calm of the countryside, and the thick bristly hair covered her hair to toe as a method of disposing of her most persistent suitors.
Which was why this latest disaster--Father, apparently having gone and found himself lost in a notorious prince's dungeons--did not make her so much as blink an eye; Beauty had found that a roar and an upturned table on her part did much to make any frivolous royal perfectly helpful and eager to please.
And if he should be willing to bargain a stay in his castle for a chance to break her spell at least--well then, so much the better.

This is lovely and it breaks my heart! Oh, these two....

It was spring when the Shinra clan came to Wutai. Their ships landed on the peninsula on the other side of her family's land, where she'd been told the sand was pale and golden instead of the black shore she could see from the palace windows. A winding line of men and chocobos crossed the rock and scrubby grass between, making their way into the forest to begin fighting their way north; Arisu waited very patiently with all the wisdom of her four years of age, until her family was loudly distracted talking about how their helping the Shinras overthrow the Kisuragi shogun would propel them to ruling in turn, before taking her little bag and slipping out of the palace gate.

The forest was further away than she'd thought it would be, as she hurried along to make the most of the dark; she made it under the shelter of the trees before the moon dipped below the sea, and she murmured a goodnight to Kaguya-hime-sama before falling fast asleep herself at the roots of a sheltering tree.

When she woke up, the petals of the wild pear tree she had slept under had dusted her hair like stars, and the Shinras' Silver Demon was standing over her, looking down like he'd never seen a little runaway before in his life.

“They don’t work for governments or rulers,” Morgan warned. “You’re as likely to be their target.”
But it was the best idea Lucy could think of, so ordered the Birds out to discreetly carry the message and hope it was heard by the right ears.

Narnia needs leverage.

While it was not considered proper for a Tarkheena to join the men on the field of battle, she was expected to be able to defend the city and the house of her husband should the battlefield come to her, instead. She had thought Queen Susan a weak and frail woman and Queen Lucy a child, until Susan had drawn and let fly an arrow that stopped a man in full charge and Lucy had cut a man down from his horse without impeding the horse. The words of the poet Zahrah were as true in Narnia or Archenland as they were in Calormen:

A woman with a weapon is the greatest foe you will ever meet, for she has no reason to live and you have every reason to die.

"Eh, what's—" Kotetsu opened the box on his desk to find a chocolate cake inside, decorated across the top with a frosting tiger and a bunny. He couldn't stop the grin from spreading across his face. "Bunny-chan, did you get me a cake?"

Bunny was very focused on his computer, but Kotetsu caught the side of his smile. "Happy Valentine's Day, old man."

"Don't call me old," Kotetsu grumbled, and plopped the cake between their desks to share it.

Sometimes, she remembered what her husband's loving mother had said, on their wedding day, to his new and loving wife.

"Such a dear little child he was, so soft and loving and honey-tongued. He could charm the birds, the flowers, the girls of the court. My son was the golden boy, and we gave hom everything. Everything.

"And now, what he isn't given, he takes. My baby A-Shan, now Sect Leader of a golden realm, takes everything as is his right..."

Everything, and everyone. And what - and who - he didn't want, he discarded or destroyed. His loving mother had learned that too late.

His unloving wife pitied her mother-in-law's untimely death, and learned from it, and let Jin Guangshan have anything he wanted. And waited...

Somewhere in his service records, Jack supposed, was an accounting of exactly how many times he'd gone through the Stargate: he'd had to write AARs after damn near every mission for the last fifteen years, after all, and some JG in the Pentagon had had to scan the early ones and correct all the typos in the newer ones.

Probably over five hundred times, he figured, tapping his fingers restlessly on his P-90 as he waited for Daniel to come hustling through the Gateroom door, while Carter, Mitchell, and Teal'c ran the standard pre-mission checklist.

"Hey Carter--" Jack started to ask, without looking away from the Gate.

"Nine hundred and twenty-three times, sir," said Sam, without looking up from her tablet, "so long as you don't count the timey-wimey ones."

By the ten-thousandth time (not that Yu Tu is counting) he opens his eyes to Qiao Jing Jing standing there in front of him, clutching her books to herself and asking him if he wants a girlfriend and what he thinks of her, Yu Tu has stopped wondering what is even the point of the endless loop that apparently exists in this circle of light where time doesn’t seem to matter, where they have tried everything; he has tried every variation of answering yes and no he can think of, and she has tried every variation of asking, or not asking, that she can think of, but the moment one of them steps out of that concrete circle that seems to be illogically flooded with sunlight, they find themselves right back where they started, him sitting and her standing in front of him, the question on her lips seeming to have ceased mattering some nine thousand iterations ago…

These times (days? He doesn’t know anymore, even the excitement of working out how he managed to break the space-time continuum has infuriatingly ceased to matter) they speak less of her question and of anything and everything unrelated to that they can think of, just in an attempt to see if they can break the loop that way – after all, if the loop breaks when they step out of the circle, what if they just don’t step out of it?

It is perhaps the hundred-thousandth iteration by now – and really, enough time should have passed that they must be old enough to die by now – and this time, something was different: Yu Tu looks up, and suddenly the sun seems to shine differently, framing the girl in front of him in a soft halo that now seems to dazzle him, and for the first time in however long they have been trapped in this school yard together, he finds himself wanting to say yes to the question that he wonders if she will still ask…

Parker was the thief, so it was said, and Lucy could see that in her lithe and liquid movements that reminded her of weasels and ferrets. Hardison called himself a hacker, but hacking implied cutting and Hardison wasn’t a fighter; Magician seemed to better describe Hardison. Eliot was the hitter but that obviously didn't encompass the hunter, killer, and fighter that all the Beasts sensed and she could see; Eliot Spencer was the most dangerous person they'd ever admitted to Cair Paravel.

"Do you really think that's going to make any of this better?" Elisa snapped.

"It won't magically make Goliath and Derek appear, and it won't heal your mother," Xanatos said, "but I've personally found that a good cup of tea means one thing is going right, and that's something, at least."

The alternative title was "Owen Makes Him The Tea"
