What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much. 
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating.  The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first.  I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety.  I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume. 

• First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page.  You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two.  It's fine.
  
• You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite at bit after about 2 weeks and especially once we open a new post because this one is approaching 4,500 comments.
• Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
• You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before.  People do it all the time. 

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.




But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it? 
No.  Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want.  It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt.  Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it.  Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it.  Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 13, 2022. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long.  (There were a bunch of new posts to the 2021 3SF this week!)

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present (and much more). I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment, protect yourself, and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.


Why is 3SF split among several posts?  That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users.  So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post.  If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

There were advantages, of course. No pollen and no leaves meant less sweeping. And while Wolves were far from clean, what with their shedding and marking (especially whenever bickering broke out), at least they were the only Beasts wandering around.

But cleaning the Witch—sorry, the Queen’s—House was still a dreadful drag, what with the ever-slippery floors and the clawmarks left on the ice and the disgusting slush that everyone tracked in. Not to mention the statues. The Queen had explicitly told Housekeeping that there was no need to clean those, but Housekeeping would be damned if the courtyard was to be left unkept for 1,000 years.

He'd said the Yiga had scattered after that, but clearly they'd regrouped and returned - and now the fiends had her knight.

It wasn't quite parallel to the time Link had charged to her rescue, but it would have to do. Zelda took a deep breath, wrapped her hands around the rope she'd borrowed-without-permission from Impa and let herself drop.

Greetings from Bistrița, Mina and anyone else whose watching. It's still so--amazing? Astounding? I don't know--that anyone else is watching these videos at all. Anyway, Mina, sorry that this video is getting to you late... you were right. The train was late in Munich, but! But, in my defense, since when are the trains in Germany late? Okay, you can stop laughing now.

So, the trips going great--I know I don't look it. The train's beds are great and all, but I guess I'm just don't sleep well on them. So, unfortunately, since the train was late, I didn't get to see much of Budapest. After the wedding, we should come back though--the rates at the hotel we booked are really great and, oh, that reminds me, Mina, you'd have loved the supper they served. It was this chicken dish with, like, paprika--anyway, I'm sending you the recipe. I know you would have killed me if I didn't get it for you. I'm looking forward to see you make it in one of your videos--oh, and Lucy, if you're watching this, oceans of love to you too.

Anyways, about the trip--we're making up for lost time. I think I'll be able to actually meet this client of mine tomorrow night. I don't know why this Count insists on meeting so late, but, eh, the customer's always right. It's the oddest thing, you know, though. It seems that every person I meet who I mention the Count to, they always have the strangest reactions...

T5-9Q toggled its visual sensor array to examine the new inhabitant of Hangar 3-5.

The small biped emitted a noise not dissimilar to that of a malfunctioning heating unit, and moved unevenly across the Bay floor towards the egress, where its [owner/progenitor/master] had exited.

This was unacceptable, according to the directive from Motto.

Organic sapients were inherently unstable and this one appeared likely to bobble; rather than raise it from the floor, T5-9Q moved to block its path.

The biped went around Teef.

Teef emitted its own noise and reconsidered. The other DUM units were working on the ST-70, and were not available to provide assistance.

Once, Teef had witnessed a multitude of quadrupeds moving through the streets outside the spaceport, accompanied by a different, smaller quadruped, which stayed on the edges of the circle, constantly moving, and kept the group together. This appeared to be an effective technique.

Teef beeped more authoritatively and moved after the biped in its care.

By the time Motto returned from her errand, Teef calculated that it had performed 232 complete rotations of the small biped, covering approximately 2 kilometers, all within the boundaries of the hangar.

When the seer-mouse croons over Reepicheep's destiny, she does it at the Jagged Place: the shattered rock that the Talking Mice claim as their own, and defend long after no one can remember why exactly it is their birthright. Larger beasts, who see only two halves of a long-weathered rock, mock the mice for thinking it something grand, the stage for every ritual. But Reepicheep knows that size does not matter; here, his ancestors, without names or language, had stood taller than a lion that had been made small.

Parker supplies him with accessories that showcase his good points, much to everyone on set's surprise. Hardison, while setting up the venue for the date, remarks that Parker really likes the guy because she didn't try to replace the rings or the wallet with similar-looking knockoffs; they'll get a better soundbite in post.

By the ten-thousandth time (not that Yu Tu is counting) he opens his eyes to Qiao Jing Jing standing there in front of him, clutching her books to herself and asking him if he wants a girlfriend and what he thinks of her, Yu Tu has stopped wondering what is even the point of the endless loop that apparently exists in this circle of light where time doesn’t seem to matter, where they have tried everything; he has tried every variation of answering yes and no he can think of, and she has tried every variation of asking, or not asking, that she can think of, but the moment one of them steps out of that concrete circle that seems to be illogically flooded with sunlight, they find themselves right back where they started, him sitting and her standing in front of him, the question on her lips seeming to have ceased mattering some nine thousand iterations ago…

These times (days? He doesn’t know anymore, even the excitement of working out how he managed to break the space-time continuum has infuriatingly ceased to matter) they speak less of her question and of anything and everything unrelated to that they can think of, just in an attempt to see if they can break the loop that way – after all, if the loop breaks when they step out of the circle, what if they just don’t step out of it?

It is perhaps the hundred-thousandth iteration by now – and really, enough time should have passed that they must be old enough to die by now – and this time, something was different: Yu Tu looks up, and suddenly the sun seems to shine differently, framing the girl in front of him in a soft halo that now seems to dazzle him, and for the first time in however long they have been trapped in this school yard together, he finds himself wanting to say yes to the question that he wonders if she will still ask…

Probably over five hundred times, he figured, tapping his fingers restlessly on his P-90 as he waited for Daniel to come hustling through the Gateroom door, while Carter, Mitchell, and Teal'c ran the standard pre-mission checklist.

"Hey Carter--" Jack started to ask, without looking away from the Gate.

"Nine hundred and twenty-three times, sir," said Sam, without looking up from her tablet, "so long as you don't count the timey-wimey ones."

Knights are already a rarefied group, higher than the other pilots even if they share the same sleeping quarters and mess hall. And among the Knights, among all those who fly a Valkyrie, Nyx and Cavall are the best known, the ones who (if they ever bothered to wear their dress uniform) bore the most medals.

Which is why it always took new pilots aback to see them down in the hangar with everyone else, Nyx half under their Valkyrie and covered in oil, Cavall nearby cleaning their weapons, always in a back and forth that's got too many languages and inside jokes in it for anyone else to understand.
