What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is an open exchange where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and fill as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You can start 3SF by posting prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

Open ended and anthropomorphic fills are popular too, such as:

Any, Any, "I don't like sand."

or

Earth geography, sand, "I don't like humans very much, either."

What happens after that?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

I'm really overwhelmed by all the prompts and how much there is and how fast it goes. I can't read 1,000 prompts and fills. It's too much.
I hear this a lot and it keeps a lot of people from participating. The 3SF is big and it moves fast, especially at first. I get overwhelmed, too, and I'm hosting the thing. With 2020 and 2021 sucking so badly you don't want something that's supposed to be fun cause you anxiety. I have a couple of suggestions for managing the 3SF volume.

First, really, you don't have to read every prompt and fill on every page. You can start at the last page of this and just go forward, or back a page or two. It's fine.
You can come and go as time and energy allow, you don't have to participate the whole time, and it drops off quite a bit by mid-February.
Even after the 3SF and new prompting end, people fill prompts all year long.
You can fill an already filled prompt and you can can leave a prompt that's already been prompted before. People do it all the time.

Always make sure you're looking at top-level comments only, not threaded. That helps a lot. Your screen should look like this.

But shouldn't I read everything to see if someone already prompted the same prompt I want to leave if someone already filled it?
No. Prompt as many times as you want, as much as you want. It doesn't matter if someone prompted the exact same prompt. Go ahead and prompt again!

I left a prompt and no one filled it. Can I prompt it again?
Absolutely!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please. I generally fail at creating banners and embed codes but if you create one and make it really idiot-proof, I might be able to post and share it. Feel free to cross-post this entry. If you create your own banners or icons, let me know and I'll share!
Please share the 3SF with your followers, friends, and any channels and comms you are active on. I'll post on fandom calendar, Tumblr, and Twitter, but I don't have many connections in other spaces such as Discord.

How long will it go?
The 3SF closes to new prompts on February 28, 2021. The entry stays open permanently and people post fills all year long.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content and archive warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?

I thought a lot about this. It boils down to reader beware. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings to even apply. It is too big for me to moderate in this way. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and the responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. This means AO3 content warnings for dubcon, violence, canon character death, underage, etc. COULD be present. I've found personally that I can skim and scroll by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing. In this format, the obligation is on you, the reader, to protect yourself from triggering content.
Some posters do include warnings and spoiler tags in subject lines or include spoiler space, but they don't have to do so.

Why is 3SF split among several posts? That seems confusing.
It is confusing and we always lose momentum once we have to move to a second post. The reason is because at 5,000 comments to a single post, DW installs a human test CAPTCHA, which is a pain for users. So, once this entry gets to the upper 4,000 comments, I open a new post. If you've been waiting until things slow down to participate, when we open a second post is often a good place to join.

The inn only had a single room available, but it must also have been the largest room available, because it held not one, not two, but three beds. Alucard wondered at the innkeeper giving it to them, but he supposed saving the town from a trio of demons was worth a bit of gratitude.

Behind him, Trevor cursed under his breath, and by the time Alucard had turned around to ask what was the matter, the man had spilled his entire beer all over one of the beds.

"Aw, fuck," Trevor said. "Sorry about that. I'll take these down to the innkeeper but I doubt they'll have another set. You don't mind sharing, do you?"

Alucard moved aside and gestured to the additional bed. "Don't worry, Belmont. They must've anticipated your clumsiness."

Surprise, followed very quickly by disappointment, flicked across Trevor's face. "Oh. That's...good, then. We'll just each...have our own."

Alucard rolled his eyes and started out of the room, and grabbed Trevor's belt on his way out, pulling him close. "You know," Alucard murmured into his ear, "if you would like to share, all you have to do is ask."

Trevor's face went very satisfyingly red, and Alucard was reasonably sure that when he returned from the lavatory, he would not be sleeping alone.

"Black cats have the hardest time finding homes," Chat Noir tells her with exaggerated mournfulness, looking up from the tablet he's angling away from her long enough to gauge her reaction.

"Technically, you're a tuxedo," Ladybug says, nudging his steely-toed boot with her own red-clad heel—but she's only not in her room doing her homework because someone submitted to the Ladyblog a photo of Chat Noir out on this roof doing his, and this is hardly the first time she's wondered if he doesn't feel safe sleeping in the-boy-under-the-mask's bed, and she is the Guardian now—who but she has, who but he will have, the knowledge and authority and ability to take Tikki away from her or Plagg from him? "I'm surprised you haven't done like a lot of street cats," Ladybug says in a tone of hint hint, "and found someone sweet who feeds you, and told her you live with her now."

Mamoru looks human, no more and no less; only the muted flash of the rings on his fingers marks him out as an orogene. Usagi keeps getting distracted by them, losing the thread of the tale, and it's just one of the many things about Mamoru's unlooked-for presence in her life that drives her mad, but it's not like she can ask him to take them off. So she restricts her picking at him to his manner of dress, and he returns the favor by restricting his needling to comments about her hairstyle.

Kotetsu opened the door and found himself staring up at a man even taller than Antonio, wearing a butler's uniform and a dour expression and carrying three suitcases in each arm. "Uh...hi?"

"Mr. and Mrs. Addams are here to see their nephew," the man said in a deep, gravelly voice.

Right, Bunny had said he had family coming in this weekend, an aunt and uncle he'd stayed with for a few years after his parents had died, but Kotetsu had not expected...this. "Just one second," he said to the giant in front of him, and then yelled over his shoulder, "Hey, Bunny?"

"What?"

"Do your aunt and uncle have a really tall and kind of scary butler?"

"Lurch!" Bunny said brightly. "I'll be right there!"

Kotetsu sighed and opened the door wider so that the giant—Lurch, apparently—could squeeze through. "Come on in, then."

Lurch ducked under the doorframe. "Thank you."

Kotetsu just nodded. He had a feeling it was going to be one hell of a weekend.

C'mon, you knew I was going to.

Oh, man, this is heartbreaking, but so fitting for them. There is just so much angst with this pair and I love how you channeled Charles' anger. You captured so much and created such a powerful image with your words. Man, it hurts but in the best possible way.

I love this and how they're able to wordlessly able to communicate with another, because it is totally true to their relationship and speaks so much of their bond.

Poor Caspian has just learned what it means to be King of Narnia. It's not just about pleasing Aslan but all other gods that keep the country fruitful and prosperous.

(disclaimer, this is not ownvoices, i'm open to concrit)

"Music transforms," Sheik tells Link, and it's true: their duets open doors, speak with spirits, pull Link themself through time and space. Note by note, the two of them are unmaking the thorned threads of Ganon's corruption, healing the land, making Hyrule whole.

It's making them whole, too - at the final battle Zelda sheds Sheik's clothing but not his name, walking like a proud Sheikah man in a dress that snaps around his ankles in purposeful rhythm, and Link's heart sings in counterpoint as they follow, as whole in the neither of the man-woman question as Sheik is whole in both.

That awful boy, Severus Snape, had become a symbol in Petunia’s mind of how her relationship with Lily had broken down; Petunia had found it hard to understand how her sister could have thought so highly of such an oddball, someone with no money to speak of, and such frightful clothes and hair, and as Lily moved closer towards him, as he told her of the wizarding world, Petunia felt her sister moving further and further away from her.

As Lily would return home for the holidays, and Snape became a fixture once again, Petunia kept her distance, pushing Lily away, questioning why Lily still clung so closely to the friendship when even her other friends at that school expressed concerns.

Then one summer when Lily returned, she was no longer friends with that boy, and every time he’d turn up at the door, Petunia was the one dispatched to tell him Lily didn’t want to see him; as Snape declared his love for Lily, Petunia slammed the door in his face: there was no way that frightful boy would ever become part of her family.

It was such a sweet gesture, really, that they all made a point to have that physical reminder of her brief presence among them. Aerith chooses to believe that the ribbons had something to do with it, this second chance, when she's not desperately sure that this second chance is actually some sort of time-looping curse meant to make her suffer death over and over again.

Still, when the time comes again, Aerith makes pink her signature color once more - call her superstitious.

“I thought you’d be a good influence on him, Carter,” Phillips growled.

“I was!” Peggy protested. “If it wasn’t for me he’d have forgotten the explosives.”

Sometimes, Teomitl thinks about the man he might have become if he'd never met Acatl--proud to the point of arrogance, bravery turned to recklessness, no fit inheritor to even be considered for the throne--and he has to shudder in horror. One look at Tizoc (at his brother, gods, the thought sickens him now that they came from the same parents), at his excesses and paranoia, reminds him how close he could have come to falling.

"You were the greatest teacher I could have ever had," he tells Acatl, and means it with all his heart.

Humans have soulmates and vampires do not; it is a simple fact of the world and one of the reasons Alucard was not surprised to find he lacked a soulmark—he had so many other vampire characteristics that it was no wonder he'd inherited that one as well.

His mother had assured him that was no barrier to finding love, but Alucard had been uncertain as to whether that would actually be the case; after all, what human would want to give up their soulmate for him?

Years later, with Trevor sound asleep in their bed and drooling on Alucard's chest in between incoherent mumbles, Alucard was forced to admit that his mother had been right—although he couldn't begin to imagine what she would say about the foul-mouthed, shockingly caring hunter he'd chosen, who had chosen him right back.

"I ate," her older brother tells her, and Mihmatini sighs and rolls her eyes. She knows Acatl too well by now not to also know that his last meal was probably a full day ago, half stale, and not nearly filling enough for a man whose day job involves running across half of Tenochtitlan slaying monsters and dealing with the magical strain of keeping the world in one piece.

She sets a hand on his shoulder, keeping him firmly in place, and fills his bowl with a serving of the spicy grilled newts she knows he likes. "Eat something anyway."

i cant stop wiggling, this is so good and perfect and everything i wanted. that last line especially is so great i adore it! whole in the neither and the both, what a beautiful way of expressing their respective genders <3 especially since it implies (rightly so, imo) that although their genders may seem "opposite", in actuality they have a lot in common too. nothing more romantic then being Gender with each other lol

i love the prose, too, like the bit about singing in counterpoint w the music theme, the snap of sheik's skirts. shedding clothing but not the name. what a pleasure to read!

i also like the implication that there's a postgame, a denouement for the two before (if?) link gets sent back. a less abrupt transition (har) if any. oh, and of course the idea of music transitioning, because why wouldn't magic do that too?

in short, a delight! thank you so much for writing this for me, Im very happy :3

The really funny thing, Quenami reflects idly, isn't that Acatl is still protesting his innocence--he's always been stubborn to a fault, and far too principled for his own good.

No, the funny thing is that Acatl, for some reason (probably because he, as a principled man, thinks others can be swayed by things like reason and logic) thinks they actually care, as though the results of the upcoming trial will be anything other than a foregone conclusion. Of course he'll die claiming his unwavering loyalty to the Empire, but it doesn't matter--he'll be dead anyway.
