caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please. I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it. So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this. It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Any fandom, any characters, seeing snow for the first time

Jester rolls around in the snow, giggling and throwing fist fulls of powder in the air. "What are you all waiting for!" she calls out to her friends, who are standing nearby, shivering.

"Some of us get cold," Nott says, and huddles around a flame Caleb produces.

A series of insistent calls punctuated by plinking sounds on the wall or shutters finally dragged first Temari - all prickles and glares - and then all three of them not only out of bed but out onto the balcony.

"What do you morons wa-" Temari broke off and Gaara hardly heard her, inching a little further out onto the balcony with wide eyes as he shuffled through the cold white layer of not-sand, then raised his head to look at the swirls of it dancing lightly through the air as they fell.

"Fuck it's cold," Kankurou whined, yanking the blanket he'd brought with him tighter around himself, "did you guys wake us up because of the snow?"

This is adorable. I love the little touches in their characterizations (Temari "all prickles and glares"! Gaara's wide-eyed staring at the snow! The older sibs' language! Kankurou taking a blanket with him!), as well as the idea of Konoha-nin wanting the Sand sibs to see the snow. D'awwwww.

Thank you! I was originally picturing just Gaara (and he is the only one who hasn't seen snow before) but . . . I had to have all three of them, hehe; I kind of love the Sand Siblings. The Konoha nin just being friendly! Temari might appreciate it more if it wasn't so early and Kankurou if it weren't so cold. XP

"It does this all the time." Tony's voice is flat, not a question. He stands in the door to the dorm, refusing to venture out, arms crossed tight against the cold.

"It's just a few snowflakes," Ángel says. He tries to nudge, but Tony isn't budging. "I got used to it my first winter here. You won't melt. Or do cats hate snow?"

The glare would be comical if Tony didn't look so damned disgruntled. Ángel can't think how he didn't immediately realize the Mollicones were cats, not Clan. Ángel tugs, and Tony goes with the motion, turning to face him slowly. Ángel frames his face, kisses him slowly. As he runs his hands down Tony's shoulders, magic flickers through his fingertips, sparks warming Tony's skin. Tony grimaces, but relaxes.

"We should go," Ángel murmurs. "We're meeting Hayley, Tanner, and Luca at Teas Please. Maybe sometime this week we'll get a real snowstorm, and I can take you sledding. You'll probably be warmer with fur on."

Tony steps out carefully, wrinkling his nose at the cold. "Come back to Florida," he mutters. "I don't know how most cats feel about snow, but this particular Lince could do without it. It's cold."

Rey’s first thought upon bursting out of the doors to the planet Starkiller was based on was that stars, it was cold. Her second was that this must be snow, and that she wished for a more opportune time to explore it.

That opportunity, unfortunately, never did arrive.

The white bits of cold bite into his skin, irritating and unwelcome as everything about this place.

Uncle Iroh joins him on the deck. "We're getting closer to the north. Prince Zuko, you should put on a warmer cloak-"

"I'm fine," Zuko snaps at him. He stares at the unfamiliar thin white layer on the ship's railing, feeling a new wave of shame, humiliation and rage.

His uncle notices his glance and smiles. "They say no two snowflakes are the same. There is some beauty in these designs-"

Without thinking, Zuko calls up a fireball and tosses it at the railing.

"Zuko!"

The fire burns and Zuko is hit by a flash of horror - fire, pain, a terrible memory - and then a different, more rational spike of fear as he realizes the wood could catch on fire -

Luckily, his fire merely melted the snow and make the railing warm to touch.

Zuko scoffs. "Just some frozen water. Fire is superior." He hides his hands in his pockets and tries to calm his beating heart.

"My nephew-"

"This weather is a nightmare. Let's get this over with so we can go back to the Fire Nation."

He rubs at his fresh scar and turns on his heel, heading back to his cabin.

Ohhhhh, Zuko. This is wonderful! I love the mix of trauma and teenage machismo here; that's so him.

I honestly love the way the whole Zuko storyline is written. But then the show is full of wonderful, deep characters.
