caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please. So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged! (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences? Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please. I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it. So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this. It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change. In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

When she discovered she'd been spell-bound by her parents, she knew they'd done it out of love, trying to keep her safe. Yet Knox was still pursuing her, the Council sought her, vampires still sensed her magic, leaving her to wonder; how long had she been unknowingly stalked by her enemies; how much better prepared for the battle ahead would she be, if she'd been training with magic all those lost years; how different would her life be if she'd always known the truth?

the uncertainty is good.

"Legends don't burn down villages.", Ulfric had said; damn fool Nords and their pointless talent for the obvious. Just about my luck, though, my people's luck, to be spared from the headsman's axe only to, literally, gaze into the eyes of the Eater of Worlds, and smell his foul breath.

And again, here at Kynesgrove: Alduin bringing one of his children out of its tomb, back from the dead. There must be hundreds of these tombs scattered across Skyrim, dragons buried for thousands of years, farms and villages built next to them, travelers passing by them, children playing atop them.

I'm standing here, next to the empty tomb, in among the charred remains of a village-burning 'legend', with that half-crazy Breton innkeeper (The Blades? Really?), and that snarky housecarl Balgruuf probably just saddled me with to keep me out of trouble.

I'm reminded of what an old Khajiit fisherman from back home, years and years ago, told me, only half-joking: "Dragons aren't gone. They're just invisible, and very very quiet."

He was right, wasn't he? For all that it's worth when the world ends.

Skyrim is such a pretty game.

It is. Sometimes I just wait for nightfall, and watch the sky do its thing...

He thought he would be safe, that they all would be, if he no longer remembered his name was Elijah Mikaelson, that he was an Original vampire, that he had siblings named Niklaus, Rebekah and Kol.

Yet removing his memories did not remove his need for blood, did not remove who Elijah was.

As Marcel sees that Elijah finds him familiar, sees how the roses wilt and the water turns to blood when he unknowingly encounters his siblings, he realises that in compelling Elijah he had not removed the danger at all.

I love how his true nature come though.

Possibly vague spoilers? If you’re familiar with the canon, this might be a bit disturbing.

Chocolate sluices down the roads like mud, peppermints form windows in gingerbread houses with caramel-slated roofs, people — humans and elves and dwarves and orcs, all shaped from gummies — stand in the streets and sit inside houses and on chocolate carriages halted mid-motion, licorice birds perch in trees of fudge and cotton candy — no matter where he looks, Taako finds some new detail to fascinate him; it’s an entire life-sized model of confectionary art, sitting in the middle of nowhere, and he has never seen its like.

“What is this place?” Sazed wonders, open-mouthed.

“Who knows — and who cares?” Taako replies with a flippant shrug of his shoulder, hiding his own curiosity beneath carelessness — though that doesn’t stop him from breaking off a piece to taste.

This perfectly captures the fridge horror of TAZ Balance in a whimsical bow. I'm so glad someone wrote something for Balance with this prompt cuz it feels tailor made for it.

Oh god that's creepy if you know what must have happened there...

River screamed and screamed, launching up off her bed and clutching her head as she ran, sending Simon stumbling backwards into a wall and seemingly not even recognising him as she passed. Simon scrambled up, biting his lip as he ran after his sister, visions of the battle on Miranda only days before making his blood run cold.

He found River curled up tight in one of the smugglers hidey-holes in the cargo bay, rocking herself and whimpering, her eyes wide.

Poor River.

So much. She was my first thought for this because . . . oof.
