caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Greek Mythology, Hades/Persephone, Hades wearing a crown of flowers

"Here," she says, jamming something onto his head and then conjures a mirror because they both know that he'd take whatever it is off his head if he can't examine it soon.

A ring of giant wine red roses, delicate cherry pink blossoms, dark dahlias, and even a few sprigs of cypress (his plant) rests on his brow--it is a work of excellent handicraft and a labor of love.

It is wilting already on his head, as does every plant he ever touches.

He purses his lips and touches the blossoms, smiling to himself as he hears her gasp as the blossoms crystallize from plants to gems. "These," he murmurs as she laughs in delight at the sparkling crown, "will last longer."

She beams; he reminds himself to make her a matching one before she goes home this spring.

Oh, this is so sweet and perfect, thank you! 🖤 Even to the slightly bittersweet note of the flowers wilting immediately. And the matching gemstone flower crowns is just a beautiful image.

Hades and Persephone are going to kill it when they show up to Mount Olympus with matching jewelry. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Some of the other stuff I'd been writing for the ficathon had been a little farther on the grim side, so I'm glad this came out on the cute end.

It’s a game of theirs to greet each other very formally on the first day of autumn, full titles and old-fashioned handshakes and all.

That quickly falls apart when Persephone enters the master bedroom and comes back out exclaiming over the holly and mistletoe and evergreen all over the walls.

Hades inclines his head and says she should never have to be without flowers, then jumps when a wreath lands on his head and a kiss on a cheek, with only an explanation of “Neither should you!”

Hades has never enjoyed family get-togethers, and the birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, and coming of age ceremonies of his siblings many, many children are a particular sore point: watching Zeus have the life he never will, the life that by all rights should have been his as eldest.

Politics demands he come, but he does not relish the occasion; he stays only as long as he must, gives each child a forgettable and easy gift (an advantage of the underworld: easy access to meaningless jewels).

The only time he gets anything in return is when his sister's daughter comes of age; "This is yours, uncle!" she says, giggling, tossing a crown of flowers on his head -- she winks at him, positively fetching, and from that moment onward, he is so taken by her that he forgets to take the flower crown off, and is only reminded of its presence when it crumbles to mulch under his feet as he steps back into his dark and dismal home.

oh, I love this. his discomfort with the politics of reunions, followed by a moment of joy, and then the crown turning to mulch, what a wonderful fic

It's easy to see how that contrast would linger with him. And I like the "mulch" detail a lot too.

Ohh, this is lovely, and a great angle for it I didn't expect. Showing the distance between Hades and the rest of the Olympians as well, well done.
