caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.


What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?

Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019. 

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

Voltron Legendary Defender, Shiro/Keith, I shouldn’t love you but I do

Shiro lies awake and watches Keith sleep, thinking of the day's events and how easily Keith had commanded everyone's attention; they knew what Shiro had known long ago, and that is that Keith is an incredibly easy person to love and want in your life.

Shiro knows that it is utter selfishness to hold on to someone who could easily be loved by anyone in the entire galaxy, many of whom would be the kind of amazing that Keith deserves.

But that level of selfishness is not a personality flaw that Keith plans on fixing anytime soon.

I shouldn't love you, Keith thinks when he stands alone, watching the rocket climb into the sky on its way to Kerberos.

I shouldn't love you, Keith thinks when he stands beside Shiro in the observation room, staring at the way the green light plays over his features while they're alone here.

I shouldn't love you, Keith thinks when he walks away from Voltron with one last look back at Shiro, standing tall and proud in his paladin armor, just as it should be.

But I love you too much, Keith thinks with the blade of Shiro's arm mere inches from his throat, and this time, he says it out loud.

Shiro strokes Keith's cheek, tracing the scar there and brushing aside his wild hair.

I shouldn't love you, he thinks, because Keith has so many great things to do and to be, and Shiro shouldn't wish to tether his flight even the slightest bit by keeping him close, but ohh, how he cannot help it, his heart fallen surely into those strong, steady hands long ago.

Keith opens his eyes with an almost lazy flutter of lashes, meets Shiro's gaze with a surprised look - Shiro blushes at being caught watching his lover sleep - and then smiles, reaching up to cup his cheek and bring him down for a kiss.

Vague spoilers for s8

Keith can feel Shiro's eyes on him, hot like a brand, and when he chances a glance in his direction, Keith watches him startle, and look away, gaze locked on nothing in the distance.

Shiro hugs him goodbye before he leaves for Daibazaal, holds him as tightly as Keith is holding onto him, and it goes on for too long, longer than they should let themselves with this many people watching, with Curtis somewhere in the crowd.

It's a few months before Keith comes back, Shiro knows, and tells himself he's not waiting.

Keith doesn't like using the term 'falling in love' when he thinks about his feelings for Shiro, because 'falling' implies an adrenaline rush and uncertainty and maybe even a mistake on your part, perhaps something that you would correct or do over, something to fix. Falling is the drop of a hoverbike against a cliff, failing a jump, crashing, hurt.

Instead, he thinks of it like gravity: once he was around Shiro's orbit, there was no way he wouldn't be attracted to it, even if it was something that started slowly, but there was no falling: there isn't, for him, a clear cut period of time when he can say 'here, Shiro did this and I knew I loved him' because it built over every gesture, every smile, each laugh they shared until it wasn't a fall at all, nor anything shocking, but the natural conclusion of something unavoidable: Keith walked into love with Shiro, and, as anything related to Shiro, even when knowing that his feelings are and always will be one sided, there is no hurt.

Perhaps it's selfish to think about it like that, perhaps it's wrong to think of your feelings as 'safe' but that is, really, just one of the many reasons in a very very long list of reasons why Keith doesn't tell Shiro how he feels.
