Three Sentence Ficathon

UPDATE! EDIT!
We're running into the Dreamwidth comment limits so all new prompts should be posted here Keep responding to and filling already posted prompts here, but all new ones should go to the new thread!

Someone did this banner for me a couple of years ago.  It's great, isn't it?  If it was you, please step up and take a bow!
It was
[personal profile] st_aurafina!   Thank you again!

caramelsilver ran one last year on Livejournal and I did two over here a few years ago. We'll keep it open until January 31, 2019 which should give everyone time to play a little. This is a delightful part of the online fandom community.

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts! When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.  So, for example,

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, I don't like sand."

What else?

You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish. If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again! Multiple fills of the same prompt are allowed and even encouraged!  (We get really fun stories going this way).

Can I still post if I need more than 3 sentences?  Or should I just abuse grammar in ways the English language never contemplated?
Yes.  Yes.

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem. You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes! Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent. Come one, come all!
The more people who come and play, the better!

Can I spread the word?
Yes, please.  I'd love to create a nifty banner with an embed code but I fail at it.  So if you create one, I'll post it and everyone can use it.

How long will it go?
Tentatively, we'll close it on January 31, 2019.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want. A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag. 3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes and could be helpful for Yuletide bears, too.

What about spoilers, content warnings, triggers, pairings, ratings, tags, and squick?
I thought about this.  It wasn't an issue the last 2 times I ran this but times change.  In my experience, this typically gets too big, moves too fast, and the stories are too short for content warnings and ratings. You should assume spoilers are fair game and that the initial poster and responder have opted to use no content warnings or tags. I've found personally that I can skim by stuff that, from the prompt, I can tell isn't my favorite flavor of delicious cake. Use your best judgment and be prepared to skip over things that aren't your thing.

And here, have some icons!

I'll start things off...

Any fandom, any, the song remains

Wrestling, Sami Zayn/El Generico

[personal profile] d_generate_girl 2018-12-14 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
In the beginning, the armories and bingo halls in Canada, it was a tool in his arsenal; deliberate as the slap-run-bounce-leaptwistarch-land of a springboard tornado DDT, a way to cue the crowd (cheer for me sing for me I'm the hero of this story I'm the good guy).

Reseda, January 2013, it's a farewell from the only place that's ever felt like home, a please-don't-go, a stab to his heart that widens into a wound as Kevin rolls back into the ring and hugs him so tight he can't breathe (wherever you go, whatever you do).

He stands tall in a WWE ring, under a name and identity that is more him than Generico ever was; fourteen years and still they sing for him: Ole-ole-ole-ole-ole-ole.

I don’t know a single thing about wrestling, but this is fantastic – even with only three sentences, it feels totally complete.

fourteen years and still they sing for him: Ole-ole-ole-ole-ole-ole.

I love this ending.

<3 Oh, this is a lovely comment to receive, thank you!

If you have ever heard the Bouncing Souls' "Ole", that's the song (it was Generico's entrance music, the mere mention of Sami's name makes fans chant it).

I haven’t heard the song, but I think I’ll have to look it up. Thank you for the explanation. :)

Sirens (mythological figures)

[personal profile] tomakeanoffer 2018-12-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's the song that stays with them, the song that echoes, the song that haunts. Even after breaking free of dagger-sharp talons and after the sun kisses their skin once again, the song remains.

Some people can manage to get away from the sirens but they'll never get free.

Ooh, this is a very cool – and wonderfully haunting – take on the prompt. I love the idea of sirens’ songs being more inescapable than their claws.

Lost, Liam

[personal profile] tellshannon815 2018-12-15 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fucking joke, Liam thinks as he hears You All Everybody on the radio for the umpteenth time and reaches to switch it off.

All Charlie had ever wanted was for DriveSHAFT to become a household name, for everyone to be singing their songs, and the thing that finally led to that was the disappearance of Oceanic Flight 815, the song's everywhere now, and he's not even here to see it.

When Liam hears the song, he thinks about how he tried to take over the chorus to the song at that concert, how that had led Charlie to try the heroin for the first time, how it had been the beginning of the end for the band, for them, how he messed up and is never going to get to make things right.

Oh, wow, that’s some bitter irony. This is bleak in the best way, and very nicely done.

Fire Emblem 13, Say'ri/Tiki

[personal profile] rosage 2018-12-16 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Say'ri ends the song with some trepidation; her husky voice is not made for hymns, and Tiki's odd expression would have cut her off if she were not the type to always finish what she starts.

"As I guessed, it has changed over the millennia," Tiki says after a round of clapping. "But I am more struck that it remains at all."

Oh, very nice – I love the two perspectives here, how she’s worried about her singing voice and Tiki is struck by a remnant of the past – and that ending is lovely.

Into the Spider-Verse

[personal profile] ernest 2018-12-31 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles sings along to the music in his head until there is nothing else. One by one his fingers detach from the ceiling, and though this solves the immediate problem, he’s failed to account for the logical outcome and lands on the table with a crash. But the song remains to ground him, and he pops out of Peter’s vision – cool, he thinks.

Heh, I love this! Poor Miles...he’ll get the hang of it eventually. :D
